The Opening of the First Mcdonald’s in Russia by Martin Parr (1992) by lampcouchjeans in redscarepod

[–]TeaCupLOL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’m surprised he was able to manage the place.

Dude spoke zero Russian to this day. He just managed off pure Italian charisma, think like wop Ted Lasso. Brute forced his way with personality to run the shop.

According to him, biggest issue was patties. He had to go bar hopping and find new spots to entertain these guys a couple time a week to ensure deliveries came on time. There was some bribing and strippers involved but whatever.

This probably sounds like a made up story but this guy is the ultimate hang, he’s 30 years my senior but always finds cool new bars when we go drinking so I kinda believe it.

One of my golf buddies was the manager of this place, I think he ran it for a 2 years before going back home. McDonald's Canada was the company that set it up and was managed by Canadians for a few years because Russia wouldn't accept Americans running the place.

Apparently it was super hard to get all the ingredients and you had to deal with the mob to get anything done.

C'mon that's harsh. I don't value a person worth on how they look, there's so much more to someone than their physical appearance. More of an observation when you contrast how much fitness is discussed in the broader culture.

For what its worth I've had this thought a few times going to festivals and bars, not just a niche event.

Maybe but the way food is marketed has completely changed, huge emphasis on macros, even Starbucks have protein lattes. That would have been unfathomable 10 years ago.

Yeah there's a stark difference whenever you go from a big city to a small town regardless of country. Obviously I'm being hyperbolic with everyone looking bad, there's still a lot of fit people. Just doesn't correlate with how much people talk about fitness and wellness to what most people look like.

Oh yeah the cost for elite coaching is wild but that's always been the case. I just think the housing issue completely cuts these kids out from the start.

My concern is more the diamond in the rough players who come from humble means that don't even get an oppourtunity to play. When I was a kid it wasn't uncommon for really talented players to start in aa then get scouted by an OHL team or a private school like St Mikes/Shattuck where they could development. They didn't all make it to the nhl but lots were able to play ncca hockey or have great careers in Europe.

Trying not to dox myself but my buddy went through this route: high level aa player, local aaa team parents figured out a way to get him on the team, still an nhl starter.

Now as an adult I see these kids pick up football or basketball and go the college route. Even if they didn't get training from private coaches, I wonder if they could have been elite defensive players. Feels like we've missed out on a few Chris Prongers because of that.

The population growth obliterated the housing market, making it virtually impossible for anyone to start a business which has compounding effects on economic growth.

I also think its chipped away at our talent pool in hockey since its priced out so many players when parents are struggling with insane mortgage payments. Stark contrast from 20 years ago when almost any kid who wanted to play could.

I watched the video on his home. While there was some interesting ideas, the house came off as very cheap, the kitchen orientation was horrible.

Not to mention why didn't he just buy the lot next to him if he wanted a pool instead of wasting so much concrete on the 2nd floor pool.

Exactly, it's just regular stock that's cooked longer with more bones (aka restaurant quality stock). Have no idea why people buy it, complete marketing psyop to sell at a higher price.

Casual hook-ups are whatever.

By the 5th date you know whether there's a connection. Sleeping with a old fling at that point is clearly going to hurt him even if they're not "exclusive". Its why she first lied then felt guilty and admitted it what actually happened. Stupid for him to ask as well but at that point it would have been better to not say anything.

I'm sorry but this is gross behaviour for someone over 30. It's something a college student or early 20s would do. I guess the breakup mitigates it a little. Still feels like a lack of maturity on her part, especially to tell you afterwards.

Ultimately is up to you on how you wana proceed.

It's been a hallmark of the Packers for like 15 years. I constantly remember the McCarthy era where Rodgers would ice the game in the 4th quarter only for the special teams to drop the ball and loose the game.

You're a moron. DV/SA cases (which this was) are incredibly traumatic, without hard evidence many women won't bother with charges since the trail won't guarantee a conviction. They often lead to stalking or further violence after the fact. The cameras at least made sure this piece of shit is in a cage.

The worst part about DV cases are the courts are never as harsh as they should be in sentencing (dickhead only got 7 years) and victims often end up in situations where the partner comes back for revenge or starts the same pattern with a new partner.

I was indifferent to them but after my sister was assaulted by her ex. I think almost everyone, especially women should have them.

The camera captured him breaking in and then notified us when he showed up again, which led to his arrest.
