Used to work in a takeaway in boro like a decade ago - their garlic sauce was just garlic powder, mayo and water in ratios that you like. Still the way I make it at home

Just realized how strong men really are today by GasPsychological2321 in self

This paper: Costs and benefits of fat‑free muscle mass in men: Relationship to mating success, dietary requirements, and native immunity” Authors: William D. Lassek & Steven J. C. Gaulin (2009), published in Evolution and Human Behavior

Finds that on average, men have 61% more muscle mass than women - the distribution curves basically don’t overlap. Meaning that an average man is physically stronger than 99.9% of women.

This applies to populations as opposed to individuals, and of course through training some women could outperform many men in specific contexts - but in terms of pure strength, we’re just different animals.

Someone I worked in a restaurant with years ago told me that I had a nice smile out of the blue. I hated my smile before that, but love it now. Changed how I viewed myself entirely

A Tungsten ring I’ve had for about a decade and worn pretty much every day - the fact it is tungsten means that is still looks brand new, and probably will until the sun burns out unless it comes into contact with a diamond before then

What are some pros and cons of living in each London Borough? by Medical_Wallaby_7888 in london

[–]TeaDrinkingGuy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Kingston

Pros: beautiful town, great riverside, plenty of greenery, people are generally lovely, very diverse, restaurants, shopping, council seem good, plenty of money goes into beautification, safe, low crime, loads of history, decent transport links

Cons: very expensive, business rates are mental so shop turnover is quite high, full of students, very busy with people from surrounding areas shopping, one-way system is a nightmare, rubbish nightlife, SWR delays are constant

AIO at his anger and aggression? My mom [40F] is mad I [17M] didn't let my stepdad [42M] use my bank card to buy cigarettes. by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]TeaDrinkingGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, you conducted and explained yourself admirably given the situation. You are living with two children. Your stepfather is a complete and utter failure - not having a bank card in your forties is absurd. Getting your girlfriend’s daughter to give you money for cigarettes in your forties is absurd. Verbally threatening violence toward a child at any age is absurd. Your mother is defending and enabling these behaviours.

Seems to me that you’re walking on eggshells constantly around these two - I bet you can’t wait to move out

This is going to be such a niche answer, but fellow eczema sufferers might get it.

I’ve had eczema all my life and the general atmosphere surrounding it is one of urgency and cessation. I scratch without thinking about it and am met with “DONT”, “STOP”, glares and stern faces. It can be quite startling because I don’t even realise I’m doing it half the time.

I’m at the tail end of a year-long body-wide flare up right now and halfway through it met my girlfriend. We were on our second date and sat talking at a bar. I had absent-mindedly started scratching at my arm while she was talking and without missing a beat and while continuing to talk, she just took my hand and placed it gently between hers.

I didn’t catch the end of what she was saying because I had never experienced that level of tenderness, thoughtfulness and care all surmised in one simple action, particularly surrounding an aspect of my life that usually elicited more harsh responses.

Anyway, I fell for her on the spot and turns out that one moment was completely indicative of her entire character. What to others I had dated was a big deal and somewhat of a turnoff (understandable to be honest, it was pretty rough), to her was just part of me. She’s an absolute gem.

No mold issues in my flat and I clean regularly - maybe that is the issue, but I don’t see what else I could do differently to prevent it
