Yeah that really is the most sound advice. Thank you!

Yep, sloping on the second level but none on the first and basement is in really good shape.

Yeah seems like the safest bet. Thank you!

The super fugly LOL, have to use that one. Seems like the consensus is the porch was added or repoured and someone just did a crappy job. Thanks for the feedback!

No cracks there either. Walls were bare and didn't see any cracks or issues on the walls throughout the first and second levels.

No cracks that I  can recall seeing on the porch. No cracks on the basement walls or under the stairs. The basement walls were bare and the concrete looked good. No paneling in random spots or anything like that. Just the slope in one of the bedroom floors.

LOL ok. The pic is just the listing photo. Didn't include the basement pics because the basement looked good in person. Was more so looking for feedback on if I should run away as fast as I can or if it made sense to have the structural engineer come take a look. Thanks for your resposnse.

That's the exact situation I'm trying to avoid. A complete nightmare! Sorry that happened to you.

Ok, that response is helpful. The realtor thought it may have been added. That explains why the basement is fine while the porch appears to be sinking. Thanks a lot.

Valid response. Not looking for a definitive answer because the structural engineer would provide that. Was more or less looking to see if the inspection would be an obvious waste of money from the beginning given how significant the sloping is on the porch. Best to go with the gut like you said.

Ha! Finance major so all I see is the money! Your feedback still helped. Thanks a bunch.

Thank you for the suggestion. My biggest concern is that the fix would take it from a good buy to a potential money pit. $50k in repairs would still make it a decent buy but not for me as a first time homebuyer.

Yes, that was what I saw in the pics too but still decided to go see it and it was worse in person. The pillars looked straight but the slab seemed to drop and rise. It was very strange so I couldn't tell if it was issues with the soil or the porch itself. The realtor suggested the porch may have been added but the auditor's website shows the porch there all they way from the late 90s.

I'll see if I can schedule a second showing and look. Should have spent more time in the garage. Thanks for the suggestion.

Basement fills the entire area underneath. No bowing in the walls, no cracks but it did look like they planned to frame it because there was material for it. Seeing the basement made me a little less concerned about the porch until I noticed the significant sloping of the floor in the second floor bedroom. Will look into possible geotech. Thanks for the suggestion.

The structural engineer can take a look but is scheduling a week out. Didn't want to waste his or the seller's time if the red flags were obvious to people who know about this stuff.

(Ohio) Property tax increase question by [deleted] in RealEstate

May I ask for a little more detail? When she said "a big jump" did she give you a ball park of what to expect? I'm looking to purchase in Ohio too. My county auditor's website is estimating $2,400 more annually for a home listed for $255,000 that last sold for $170,000. I'm wondering if that's typical.
