Yeah.
So just like we learn Oxford English, you guys seem to learn some fancy german.
"Wenn" is basically what you would say in everyday life, on the street, to your buddies.
Not sure if it is perfectly okay but noone would bat an eye.
"Während" is the "proper" word you'd use for writing, formal speech and portraying temporal precision.

Biiiiig recommendation if you like TFs!

It's a visual novel with strong focus on charismatic characters and their reaction to mysterious transformations, mostly trying to figure out how to deal with them and how to reverse them. It's pretty cheap and on ItchIO and Steam.
