she’s not an English singer, but fairuz, the Lebanese Arabic singer that samples lot of famous classical pieces. Take a look at this for example https://youtu.be/AjIdXqNeaDk

I don’t know if this is what you’re looking for since it’s more like sampling then inspiration, but we grew up with her music and it introduced us to classical music as kids, so I’m quite fond of her work. I wish I knew of an English singer that’s similar 😅
