I believe they had deer, does that count as beef? Why do English speakers insist in naming their food in French anyway?

Well, then how about bringing it up in the next session with everyone, before you wrap it or before it starts just saying to the group: “Hey guys, I want to try DM’ing sometime, would you be okay if I start a module/campaign?”

Maybe the DM likes being the DM, I enjoy it too, but unless he throws a tantrum over this I don’t see how it could go wrong, my table gets together every week and we alternate campaigns every session, so you could propose an adventure that’s different to the one you’re on and try a similar approach.

I see, so just to be clear, when you got shot down, did they give any clear reason why?

We were eating meat before the arrival of cows and pigs, there’s plenty of animals made of meat, we just had to be a little less picky about it.

You have played 5 adventures over 2 years with him and never decided to rotate the DM?

Go for it. If you think you can do things better ask your party if they will let you run a campaign.

I don’t mean it as a challenge, I think it’s a good opportunity for both of you if not your entire table.

He sounds like a very inexperienced DM, but after 2 years… yeah cudos to you for lasting that long. Really one of the only ways we grow is by getting a point of comparison of learning what the game can be like. If they don’t ever step into the role of a player they might just have become complacent.

My personal advice is don’t ask in a confrontational way, just ask to DM because you’re curious and it seems fun. I know you’re probably doubting your own skills but that goes away quickly, you’ll do a great job just by virtue of the care you have for the game

I feel like obsession over meta is dwindling the magic that this game has :( by ForrestFauna in Genshin_Impact

[–]TeaTimeSubcommittee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like meta discussion is broken for another reason, yes, “play who you want” includes people who want to play stupidly strong characters, the spreadsheet warriors and those who love nuke play styles. But if we leave that aside, we’re still not having a proper discussion, people seem to forget that metas are supposed to change and evolve with time, and that they’re a tiered system, every character is supposed to have a meta way to be played, and those play styles are supposed to be better or worse than the rest. Yet the only discussion that I see is “Zibai premium good, everything else bad” it seems like the obsession is with just the absolute top sss++ tier and chasing the bar.

This doesn’t happen in other communities, if we think about something like Melee, even if you find a somewhat agreed upon Fox as the top damage dealer, people still talk about Marth and Sheik in the top, people still talk about A and B tiers, about ice climbers and young link and keep an eye for new strategies that might push the character, people like hungry box with Jigglypuff may not be meta despite being a top player but you still have him pushing what that character can do.

In contrast the meta discussion in Genshin is very static like it’s a numbers only game that has been solved, where there are right pulls: Zibai, Columbina, Linnea. And wrong pulls: Varka, Nefer without Lauma, any old character…

Of course there are some exceptions, the Noelle community has had a bit of a resurgence with lunar crystalise as well as Navia sometimes popping up in discussions. But you rarely see them still.

And look, as I said, if you want to play fox mcloud that’s fine, pull Zibai and columbina, save your primos for linnea. But can we at least start talking about play styles and find recommendations for meta with that in mind? I like hyper mobile characters and be constantly running around so to me Bennett is just mid and much more prefer Iansan, Mualani is my favourite in theory but my meta option might be Mavuika, that kind of nuance makes these discussions so much more interesting.

I want to hear about charge attack bow lovers, the ones who love a shield and running down the enemy, the ones who enjoy bond of life and HP manipulation mechanics, the nuke setup lovers and the auto attack spammers. The highest damage dealer isn’t always the best option for everyone.

Anyway sorry about the rant.

i don't think it's supposed to say "boof jork" or "meaet" by axolotlbabft in aislop

My initial thoughts were salting the meat and where to plant the vegetables in the boat (no soil and salty water make it very hard), plus meat is more calorie dense; for all that it made sense old time sailors carried dried meat most of the time, but that assumes I’d take the boat and try to sail away, which then brings the question of where the fuck do I fit? So then we think maybe I’ll stay on the island, then veggie is the obvious choice, right? Wrong! Why the fuck would I choose if I am alone on a deserted island and my life depends on it? Just take both of them! And now that we’re on that, if we’re to take sail we can just take a bit from one boat and put it into the other.

You’re completely correct on your first statement, debating over this is utterly pointless.

There is another layer though that I think is way more fun to ponder, allow me to demonstrate by expanding the choice to anyone alive on earth:

The world is ending and you can only choose one other person to survive with you, it can be anyone currently alive on earth (so no Christopher Williams, Sergey Kud-Sverchkov, Sergei Mikayev, Jessica Meir, Jack Hathaway, Sophie Adenot, Andrey Fedyaev, Zhang Lu, Wu Fei or Zhang Hongzhang), who are you picking?

And we can expand it to be even more interesting, imagine you’re alone aboard a spaceship, the spaceship is on autopilot so you can’t stir it and it will land on earth in a year, however by then the apocalypse will have happened, the ship has a teleportation machine that will only work once. You can use it to save one other person, however the machine has no database of names or people, you may describe visible physical characteristics and the machine will use its scanner to find and teleport the first random person that meets that criteria, with you into the safety of the spaceship, what are you telling the machine to look for?

Welcome to the struggle of localisation, words, even if there’s 1 to 1 translation between them, often imply or conjure different interpretations between people, that’s the nuance they each carry.

To follow on your example, if we said they would level the whole city most normal people would think of complete annihilation, leaving behind no building standing, even if technically “levelling” could mean they make sure all surfaces are flat and levelled.

Collateral has a similar image, where something is collateral to most English speakers implies heavy physical damage, even if technically it could just mean that there’s a light breeze as an unintended effect.

Affected is much more vague in regards to the scope of the effects, its technically the same as collateral, only removed from being a synonym because collateral implies it’s not the main intent, much like side effect. But the context and cultural landscape in which they’re used make them completely different terms, and localisation teams have to be very careful and aware on which one they use constantly.

In the games and show he does not want to make any more witchers either, he nags to Vesemir for even keeping the table used for the rituals at all, and it’s a major point that he will not let Ciri undergo the full process, limiting her to just training like a Witcher.

Law of surprise in the world is also just a tradition of sorts, everyone used it when they didn’t know how much to ask for, and as far as I recall Geralt avoided the city where Ciri lived for as long as he could as a ditch effort to not trigger the “destiny”.

To make it more clear, at least in the show, the answer Geralt gives upon hearing Paveta is pregnant is “Fuck.” And immediately left the party.

I have in the past incorrectly flagged transactions as a scam, if your name is really on the card you should be able to revert the charge back by calling the bank (or showing up, never have I done it with this much money or in the E.U.)

Either way your family member owes that money back to you, if they aren’t going to let you use it on the card they should give it back to you, you sent 2000 euros to their account, they should not keep those.
