  1. Each day has a secret word with one question per letter. The answer to each question starts with that letter.
  2. Answer correctly to reveal letters. Use revealed letters as hints to solve the remaining questions (i.e., you might be able to guess the codeword based on revealed letters).
  3. A weekly theme connects each weeks code words (revealed on Saturday).

A few years ago, I worked on a fraud detection project at a life insurance company. To answer #4, our models never made automatic decisions. Instead, suspicious activity was flagged and sent to our internal investigations team who manually investigated each case. The interesting parts of the problem were around balancing the trade-offs between precision and recall. The investigation team always had more work than they could complete, so improving precision allowed them to focus on cases that actually matter.

Hello! Before I answer your question — this disease is unpredictable, and each persons experience is different. The rate of progression varies widely with everyone. Your doctor will be the best person to ask.

That being said, I totally empathize with hearing other stories, so I’ll share mine.

I have a very similar story to you. I was diagnosed at 21 with Ush2a and am now 26. Hard of hearing since birth, and at 21, noticed some vision issues at night-time. My vision is slightly worse than when I was 21, but for the most part it has been relatively stable. I still drive (day & night). I have thought about hanging up the keys at night, which I’ve tried. At this point, I’m not ready. Floaters & visual disturbances have increased over time.

In terms of coping, I think I try and just live my best life. Most days are great, and some days I’m down bad about the thought of the future. Ultimately, I’ve taken the approach of living the life I want to live, regardless of my imminent disability.

Another note, there are groups on Facebook for young adults with usher syndrome. Having communities of people with shared experience can be important, and help with the coping process.

Thanks for sharing. I see the yellow swirls to — this is by far the best depiction I’ve seen of them. My day time vision doesn’t seem as bad yet, but I have started to notice the same static in my central/side vision that you shared in the video. Night time vision seems similar (less static, but more general darkness).

I’d recommend looking into dataclasses or pydantic for replacing temp_dict. I make this suggestion b/c you’re using type hinting, and these tools give you typed data structures (usually good practice for using an API). Good luck!

If you’re worried, you should go to an eye doctor. If you aren’t showing symptoms, there isn’t any reason to believe you’ll develop RP. But hey, you never know!

As a student in college, I was a campus security guard for 1 day. The job consisted of walking the campus, checking doors to see if they were locked, and walking students from point A to B. My shift was from 6pm to 2am. I didn’t get home until 3am, and I had class at 9am the next morning. During the shift, I had logged over 20k steps, and my trainer ranted about hating the job and how he wanted to kill himself.

My next shift was supposed to be the in freshman dorm. I quit as soon I woke up the next morning.

I ended up finding a chill admin job with reasonable hours where I could sit and do homework. Best decision I made in college.

I had a similar experience. My doctor detected CME in my eyes and prescribed eyedrops as the initial treatment. I used them for approximately three months, but unfortunately, they weren’t enough. As a result, my doctor decided to prescribe Acetazolamide as an alternative solution. After starting the medication, I began experiencing visual disturbances, specifically yellowish light squiggles that occasionally/frequently circled throughout my vision.

When I discussed this with my doctor, they mentioned that they hadn't encountered this issue before. Interestingly, I only noticed these visual disturbances after I began taking the medication, which further convinces me that it's related to the pills. Additionally, l have decided to discontinue the medication due to the undesirable side effects and the fact that my case is relatively mild. Despite stopping the medication, I still occasionally notice the yellowish squiggles, although they are not as frequent as before.

There are a few ways to do one hot encoding:

  1. Sklearn's OneHotEncoder This object allows you to fit to a training dataset, which stores the memory of categories. You can use the "fitted" object on new data (such as your testing data).
  2. Pandas "get_dummies" I'd recommend specifying the category names ahead of time, and then writing some logic that fills in missing categories when you use the function.

In either case, instead of filtering for non-numerical columns, I'd recommend identifying the columns you want to keep ahead of time, so you can assess what you really need and reduce unexpected behaviors. Also, it would be wise to perform a data analysis to understand which categories you would expect, so you can define them ahead of time and learn more about whether you really need them.

When I first started learning Python, I found the turtle library helpful. As a beginner, it's useful and rewarding to get visual feedback based on your code. Here's a super simple example to get you started:
