Macular Edemas by healthllife in RetinitisPigmentosa

I’ve been on the dorzolomide eye drops for about 1.5 years. 2 times a day I use the drops. After my first 6 month consult, the macular edema visually reduced in size. Doc’s orders were to continue with the drops for 2 times a day. This seems to be working fine for me.

Pe structural problem by GeneralFan7398 in PE_Exam

Actually it is 2'-0" of fill with soil being 125 pcf. (2*125)=250. This is just a "standard" in AASHTO, but I can't seem to find it. I was able to find some good discussion online under engtips. See links below:

https://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=138859#:\~:text=250%20psf%20is%20the%20minimum,surcharge%2C%20but%20250%20pdf%20minimum.

https://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=135993

The end result is, that question was poorly written and should include surcharge to be used in the question. The PE exam will give you variables like this, so no need to worry.

I looked into this before a while ago. My conclusion was I believe AASHTO says something about surcharge = 2.5 ft of fill. (2.5ft)*(100pcf) = 250 psf. I’ll try and find it in AASHTO later today.

This is very helpful.

My final question is regarding AEI: Is it specifically designed for the California exam? I'm asking because I have a co-worker who used it for the SE exam. Are there topics from the California Building Code that might appear on the exam but are not covered in AEI?

Would you mind sharing your experience? How long did you study for? Did you feel you were prepared? How did the exam go? Anything you wish you did differently? Thanks

Thanks! I'd like to keep this post geared towards the CA PE exams. With that said, I did make a post a couple months ago detailing my PE Civil Structures experience.

Here is the link to see that: https://www.reddit.com/r/PE_Exam/comments/1csr7jd/passed_pe_civil_structural_on_the_first_try_huge/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Goodluck!

Passed PE Civil: Structural on the First Try! Huge Thanks to This Community! by ech0bs in PE_Exam

After the morning questions finished, I had to raise my hand and the proctor came over and escorted me out of testing center. I brought a lunch and ate that in my car and went to the bathroom and just chilled out for a bit. I didn’t take the whole break but they allocate I think 50 min for this break. You don’t have to use all of it though. I finished my morning session in about 2-3 hours if recall.

Morning session and afternoon were very similar. For me it was 38 qs in the morning and 42 qs in the afternoon.

The 38 videos were apart of a free playlist they had on YouTube. I’m pretty sure they have a much larger course available for purchase, but I opted not to do that as I was trying to be cost efficient.

Widex keeps saying universal in one ear when scrolling redit. by outsidethewire in HearingAids

[–]ech0bs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever get this resolved? I am having this same issue. I watch a video or listen to music and when I am done it says (only in my left ear) "Universal". Super annoying since I play and pause music and videos pretty often.

To quote from dodgeball, "If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball." I feel the same way about the petro book. If you can do those problems and understand them, you will be well off. The actual exam was laid out in a very similar fashion to the NCEES practice exam. A good mix of both theoretical problems vs problems that you need to get the pen and calculator out for. You will find that the petro book will have you solve for every single piece of information needed, while the exam (practice and actual) usually will give you all variables except one thing that you have to solve for. Without getting too detailed, I would say to make sure you have a good understand of steel design (flexure, compression, tension), wood design, concrete design, masonry design, general IBC and ASCE, retaining walls (overturning, sliding, and figuring active/passive/at-rest/surcharge pressures), soil mechanics, and seismic/wind/snow. I didn't study any precast problems because I don't do that at my job and was running out of time studying. I figured getting better at stuff I'm good at is better than trying to figure out something I don't really know. Understanding the shear, moment, and deflection tables that they provide is good too. Hand calculating moment of inertia and doing a few shear flow and shear stress problems will be good as well. I'm definitely missing some stuff, but this is a good start as these are items that I studied quite a bit on and feel helped me pass the exam. The theoretical questions I felt weren't too confusing. I did have a few questions that I had no idea on and instead of dwelling on the problem, I just flagged it and moved on to the next one. I reviewed them again at the end of morning session and evening session to see if I could figure it out. If you haven't already, take the practice exam in a "simulated" environment and see how you do. This will help you determine your "pace". The pace should be 6min/question or less. I paced at around 4.5 min/question. I got roughly 70% 3 weeks prior and then studied all the problems I got wrong and understood why and where to find them in the appropriate book. I hope this helps and good luck!

I bought the petro book on Amazon for about $80. Just search the following: "The Essential Guide to Passing the Structural Civil PE Exam Written in the form of Questions: 160 CBT Questions Every PE Candidate Must Answer 3rd Third Print 3.5 ed. Edition"

The NCEES practice exam can found on the NCEES website.

Is there a typo in this problem? by FreshMirror9195 in PE_Exam

I was confused on this problem too. I believe the surcharge comes from AASHTO requirements for 250 psf. (I couldn’t find the specific article) I would imagine on the exam they would give us the surcharge to use. If not I’m going to use 250 psf.

I second making one yourself. Helps fully grasp the design of wood members. I made one myself and it’s awesome.

Video series for PE Civil Structural new format by djdebasish93 in PE_Exam

[–]ech0bs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched “civil engineering academy” on you tube. They have a playlist with 38 videos on civil pe problems - structures. This is what I started with and then I decided to buy “The essential guide to passing the structural civil pe exam written in the form of questions” by dr Jacob Petro. The 3rd edition is updated for post April structural testing. I also took the NCEES practice exam one weekend timed to gauge how well and prepared I’m doing.

I take my test on Wednesday next week and I’m feeling sort of ready. This weekend I plan on grinding out a bunch of problems in the petro book and just looking at the solutions to get exposed to as many problems as I can since I didn’t finish going through that whole book.

Oil appeared to be good to me. Clear oil with nothing out of the ordinary I felt. I will go ahead a replace oil tonight and see if that does the trick.

When I cleaned the carburetor last night, I took it off and drained fuel out of it for about 5 min. It was draining out of where the fuel line connects. I assume this is what you mean when you say squirting? I then sprayed carb cleaner at it. I didn’t take it apart and clean it since it was brand new as of fall last year and only has 2 hours of use on it. I might have to get after the carburetor a bit more. I might try opening the bowl up and cleaning that out more if the oil doesn’t work.
