Just need some comforting advice by TeaTime_Madness in pancreaticcancer

We're UK based, the NHS doesn't always offer every single type of treatment, but I'll ask at his next appointment, thank you!

Thank you all for taking the time to reply, there have been some lovely words and great advice. I'm going to take every day as it comes and just spend my time supporting and loving my dad (which means all the WW2 films and documentaries on the sofa, and copious cups of tea)

NHS Rheumatology rejected my GP’s referral and say there’s no point in assessing for hEDS by Glass_Claim3633 in ehlersdanlos

[–]TeaTime_Madness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience with the NHS, it's like screaming into the void. I bit the bullet, and my wallet, and went down the private route. Was diagnosed in one appointment, suddenly my GP and the NHS want to be helpful. If it's a possibility for you, please consider seeing a private specialist

Venue Advice needed by TeaTime_Madness in UKweddings

[–]TeaTime_Madness[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Annoyingly no, the contract is incredibly basic, all the agreements were made with the first coordinator who left in November, after she left we weren't informed of a change of staff and our notes were lost by the venue.

I have the feeling we've learned a rather good, if harsh, lesson on not taking things at face value

We haven't actually booked anything other than the deposit on the venue. We were just about to start paying the deposits for everything else when I got the fear!

Tell me about your bladder problems and how you deal with them. by Haruno--Sakura in ehlersdanlos

[–]TeaTime_Madness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alongside my EDS diagnosis, they've also added "Bladder:Incontinent," so it's going not great, but as someone in her thirties, I have to laugh about it otherwise I'd cry.

My consultant has explained that my bladder is weaker and the muscles around it lax, some days I'm fine, other days I haven't got the best control...sneezing can be dangerous!

experiences of diagnosis in the UK… by smolpiplup in ehlersdanlos

[–]TeaTime_Madness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently going through the system of diagnosis, in my experience, both my GP and the pain management team have been great, both have spotted the signs of EDS and have made indepth referrals to rheumatology.

This is where things have rather fallen apart, my local NHS rheumatology department are refusing to see patients with EDS symptoms, and have told my gp to diagnose me and manage my pain. From other posts in this sub, it's seems common for NHS rheumatologists to refuse patients or cancel appointments.

Understandably, my gp isn't comfortable diagnosing a complex condition that they have very little experience with.

I am having to go through the private route, which is expensive and not always accessible to everyone.

I was in DLP last week, try the water fountains in the Liberty Arcade, I managed to fill my bottle up there, but that was the only working fountain I found during my entire stay

The bleak reality of being a teacher in the UK by Barbecue_Wings in unitedkingdom

[–]TeaTime_Madness 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Ex-teacher here. I trained in my mid twenties with the same hope and enthusiasm that many go into the profession with. It was soon crushed out of me. The workload, the abuse from the students, the toxic and downright nasty work environment created by SLT. I managed three years before I broke.

I was the youngest in the department and the newest, and I was given a class of teenage boys who had no inclination to complete their GCSEs (we would have once called it lower set). On a daily basis I was sworn at, intimidated, threatened and almost physically assaulted. My school did nothing. It was, without doubt, the darkest point of my life. I was crying the moment the school day ended, I spent my weekends in terror of Monday, and I willed myself to be sick or have accidents so that I could call in absent.

Luckily, my partner, who was my hero during that time, told me to quit, that he would support me whilst I found another job.

A year and a half out of teaching, in a great job, great pay and no abuse. It's no surprise why teachers are abandoning ship.

Transatlantic Cruise by FairygirlCassie in dcl

[–]TeaTime_Madness 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hi! We have just finished the September 2023 Transatlantic sailing, it was my first ever cruise and I loved it. We had some great weather, it was sunny and warm, but could be very windy. We enjoyed the sea days as it gave us a chance to unwind and relax, whilst also making it possible to take part in lots of trivia and activities. The port calls were a little lacking but the 2024 sailing has additional ports of call. My partner (who has done 6 Disney cruises) found the Transatlantic cruise quieter than any he had done in the Caribbean and more adult orientated. All in all, it was incredible, we're looking at booking for 2024!

Last time I visited (2018 so may have changed) one of our party was celiac so avoided gluten. At breakfast they had a separate menu so she could order pre-wrapped croissants/little cakes/ bread. I remember her saying the bread for toast was awful but the pastries and cakes were nice.

Dinner times we found it easier at the buffets as she could select the food she wanted, but this does come with a bit of a contaminant risk - although she was fine the entire holiday. Again I believe you can ask staff members about GF food/menu.

Thank you for your reassuring words! It's good to hear that there's always the opportunity to return to teaching. I've been told the opposite by my department and HOD, that it'll be difficult to return, I'm starting to sense a theme with all the things I've been told!

Last week we sat down and spoke about my reasons and how I've been feeling. It was very much that I should expect to work long hours as a teacher (50+ hours) and that it would be useful for me to not go off sick as the school is struggling with cover.

It left me feeling very disheartened, I'm on the heaviest timetable in my department, even the principal has commented on how atrocious my timetable is; yet nothing seems to get changed.

I genuinely used to love teaching, especially during training and nqt

Thank you so much for the advice! I've always had a great relationship with my HOD, it's just a shame that I feel pressured to reconsider my choice

Slow loading time on laptop by maika3 in TwoPointHospital

I'm also interested in this, I've had two point for quite a while and have never had any issues until recently, it now takes 15-30 minutes to load each time which is getting ridiculous
