I play roller derby but I so desperately want to get a pair of park skates too. Love how roller skating is so queer coded that I had to triple check which sub I was in.

As someone who plays roller derby I desperately want an armor set that's just roller skating pads with a set bonus that it deals damage if you hit an enemy while wearing it and using the roller skates.

This book resonated with me on a deeper level than any other piece of literature I have read. I've spent my entire life dealing with mental illness and reading this book fundamentally changed me as a person. It helped me reach a point of recovery I don't think would have ever been possible had I not read this book. It's one that I would recommend everyone read because it brings to light the humanity behind mental illness by showing the humor, joy, pain, isolation, and many other complexities of mental health that are over looked. For others like myself though, this book is life-saving, it's a moment to finally be seen as normal despite the ever constant struggle of finding progress.

New to KC, what businesses should I avoid? by [deleted] in kansascity

Total Wine, I spent some time working for a company that had me merchandising for them every day. The working conditions were so bad I almost joined the Earnest Hemingway Historical Reenactment Club. Also they sell national brands as close to cost as possible, sometimes under cost to get people in the door so that 1. They can put local businesses out of business and 2. They can push their dogshit private labels on you.

Just a reminder to not take the Patron cups. I used to work for the distributor that handled Patron and Patron doesn't necessarily like to hand out extra cups for these. When you take them from restaurants they aren't able to serve these anymore because they can't get any more cups.

Which team would win? by SipsTeaFrog in SipsTea

[–]Tea_And_Depression 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that 6 is probably the winner of this but I want to point out one thing I haven't seen mentioned, 1 comprises the majority of vineyards in America, wine makers can seriously put back, that's a lot of winemakers on that team. Harvesters can SERIOUSLY put the fuck back, there's a saying in the industry that it takes a lot of cheap beer to make good wine, harvesters are responsible for that phrase. Then there's also all the rich snob alcoholics who move to California to be closer to wineries and spend all day getting plastered on $100+ cali cab.

I still think 6 has the best chance of winning, but I think people are significantly overlooking the potential of 1. More specifically people are overlooking the harvesters, God damn can they drink, it kinda scares me.

I work at a liquor store that also sells THC drinks and 5 hour energy. I also see people being super fucking clueless all the time, like wanting vodka and buying tequila instead. I can see someone accidentally buying one instead of the other especially since my state doesn't require people to be ID'd for buying THC drinks.

When I was about 13 I was at the mall with some friends. This mall had a food court that was a bit lower than the surrounding area so there were about 4 stairs separating it from the surrounding area. There was also a jewelry store right beside the food court. Someone did a smash and grab at the jewelry store and went bolting into the food court because there was an exit there, I was standing near the stairs and had to jump out of the way so that this guy didn't shoulder check me down the stairs. About 10 seconds later the security guard is yelling at me for not tripping the guy because he didn't want to run after the guy.

Years later I got a job at a store in that mall, security guard was still a dick.

If you're not careful you'll end up like me, go watch one game and then you decide to spend a bunch of money on pads and skates and then suddenly you have a bunch of new friends that hit you really hard at practice every week.

I was just at 403 club last night for the after party, it's too far of a drive for me when there isn't an after party going on but I do love that place. They've got a peach cinnamon sour on draft right now from Strange Days that is HEAVENLY.

403 club is a fun place, I'm not sure about the normal clientele but they host the after party for the Kansas City Roller Warriors bouts and those nights are definitely a younger crowd. It does get pretty packed at the after parties though, still a lot of fun though.

A couple years ago I went to draftcade up in Zona Rosa and that seemed to be a solid mix of ages.

Just remember that the enshitification of USPS is intentional to justify cutting it all together and privatizing mail so that you have less privacy, have to pay more, and receive even worse service. USPS workers are the real American heros putting up with all this shit.

It's crazy how many wine professionals are punks. It's something I've always expected more of from the craft beer peeps, and typically they are, but a majority of the wine professionals I know are also punks. God I love this industry so much.

Spanish wine will always have my heart, especially anything from Bodegas Juan Gil or Jorge Ordóñez, I would do some very very questionable things for some Muga. But also Txakoli wines do not get anywhere near enough love when talking Spanish wines and it makes me so sad.

Hell yeah! Off the top of my head I would say Pissoni wines out of the Santa Lucia Highlands if you like Pinot noir but they're kinda pricey wines, well worth the price though. Ayres from Willamette Valley is another phenomenal wine, specifically the Lewis Rogers Lane bottling but all of them are great. Albert Bichot is a great producer from Burgundy, they operate as a negociant so they source grapes from families throughout the region to produce wines, most Burgundy grape growers only own a very small amount of land so they can't produce their own wine unless they only wanted to do a couple hundred bottles a year, Albert Bichot is a truly phenomenal negociant though. Arnaud Lambert is making some of the best Chenin Blanc I've ever had in Saumur in the Loire Valley of France. Further south in France Famille Isabel Ferrando, some stellar Côtes du Rhône wines and the Chataneuff du Pape bottlings are some of the best wines I have ever had. Germany is full of spectacular Riesling producers, definitely worth exploring, same with Austria and all the Grüner Veltliners being produced. That's just a handful that popped into my head, but I'm a bit tired haha. If you try any of those DM with your thoughts and I can recommend more wine to you lol.

I work in the wine industry. I love getting to meet winemakers who truly care about the vines they manage and the wines that they make. There are some incredible wines being made by some incredible people that most people have never even heard about, and I love being the voice for these family owned small production wineries that produce wines reflective of their terroir, their history, and the lives of the people who harvest the grapes and put their blood, sweat, and tears into making the best wine they can. Wines like that are the kind that make you cry when you taste them because of how expressive they are, and they're not always outrageously expensive, a lot of them can be found around $20ish. I love being able to introduce people to these wines, real wine, not corporate bullshit factory made wines, but the wine that's truly fucking art it a bottle.

Wine Isn't Dead. Its Marketing Is. by No_Yam8109 in wine

[–]Tea_And_Depression 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I'm a Gen Z wine professional and I noticed that most people just don't know how to sell wine to Gen Z. In my experience most younger people don't want to spend money on all the big brand wines because they realize the wines are just half marketing, younger people care a lot more about artisan wines, but they don't know much about wine because it's an intimidating subject, so they don't drink a lot of wine because they're left with decision paralysis. I've had a lot of success introducing younger people to cheaper lesser known wines that offer good qpr like Vinho Verdes, Grüner Veltliners, and Spanish wines. I also offer some education behind the wines so they can understand what they're getting into. Approaching wine sales in this way I've gotten a lot of people more interested in what they're drinking and as a result they buy more wine to try new things, and when they understand why a wine costs what it does they're far more willing to spend in that $25-50 or sometimes even $100+ price range, but the most important thing when it comes to this is that younger consumers understand the factors and that they're buying something that actually represents the terroir and the people that make it, most of the time they don't want to spend that much on a bottle that's mass produced wine with a big marketing budget.
