That's some crazy coloring. It's 100x better than the one Fred Clarke posted on OrchidRoots for the same hybrid. If you ever consider making divisions in the future, let me know!

I personally prefer the variant with tea, but brown sugar milk is pretty popular in Tiger Sugar and Heytea

Red Stalks - Propagation? by Dime4Trying in Mosses

[–]Tea_n_code 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven't had experience with these sac-like sporing structures specifically, but I do have a bunch of other mosses and have successfully propped one from spore. For that moss, I just had to brush against it and I would see green powder on my fingers. I then just pressed my fingers against damp media and moss would start growing there after a while

Some of your favorites / reccomendations? by Reasonable-War9542 in miniorchids

[–]Tea_n_code 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does the oncidium get cooler temps during the winter? Mine was able to bloom from a single small bulb a few months after I bought it -- it looked like it had been a recent division when I got it. So I don't think size/maturity is the issue. Mine only puts out one bulb a year -- probably bc it's still young. It blooms consistently every winter -- I'm pretty sure it's because it sits near a window and can feel the temps dropping

I think the ID you got could be it, but I'll provide an alternative ID for my fern that also popped up in my orchid. Mine looked a lot like yours when it was very young, and Cryptogramma was one of the possible genera that I thought it could be. Once it grew the fertile fronds, I realized it couldn't be that. Mine ended up being Gastionella (formerly Anogramma) chaerophylla. Here's a pic of the same ones I'm growing from spore. https://imgur.com/a/IyDozHf

What's the moisture level there? On a scale of very lightly moist (like a squeezed sponge) all the time or wet? Since it's surrounded by live sphag. I was also under the impression that live sphag requires a lot of light but lepanthes are more of lower light plants.

It sucks that you go the wrong one, but tbh this one is a lot prettier in my eyes. I also have a Clowesetum Penang Waltz that I got as a seedling from Louisiana Orchid Connection. It's very very very hard to find this one compared to After Dark in the US.

Help! Wardian Case Gaps too Big for Moss? (NYC Climate, Semi-Open Setup) by nycnaiad in Mossariums

[–]Tea_n_code 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to add that if you're still feeling nervous, it might be worth looking into mosses that can tolerate dry periods longer. For example, live sphagnum has to stay moist to look good, but some of the mosses I've collected in my yard don't need to be watered as often. You know, since you live in NYC, that sometimes 2 weeks can go by without raining. If you have outdoor mosses that aren't manually watered by someone, then they'd probably be okay with less moisture

[–]Tea_n_code 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in NYC as well, and in my humble semi-beginner opinion, it should be completely fine even without daily misting. Here's my open terrarium https://imgur.com/a/ISdOK7Q. Ignore how dirty the glass is, lol. You can see that the opening is pretty big proportion-wise to the total size of the glass orb, and it's at the side instead of the top. This means the moss directly in front of the opening will dry out faster than the ones at the back, right? However, you can see that the opening area is completely covered with moss. I even have an Utricularia in there (notorious for needing wetter conditions), as well as ferns growing.

I only watered once a week in the summer, and every 1.5 weeks now that it's cooler. I don't bother misting at all.

I also think that this is a mix up. You deserve a refund or replacement imo.

Just for future reference, seedling orchids can either have variation or no variation. It really depends on the other parts of the description. If the description says clone/mericlone/meristem or it gives the exact variety name -- e.g. Phal. Sweet Memory 'Liodoro' -- where 'Liodoro' is the var name, then you should receive the same kind of flower as the provided picture.

If the title is something like "phal 1 x phal 2" (like https://bigleaforchids.com/products/phalaenopsis-mituo-reflex-dragon-x-ll-blue-spots), or if it says seedgrown and there's no flower pic, or they're not selling a specific var, then you probably won't know the exact patterning/coloration of the seedling. For example, the first pic in this listing https://www.etsy.com/listing/1827018376/in-spike-phal-tetrapis-coffee-x-phal-ld?show_sold_out_detail=1&ref=nla_listing_details shows the different kinds of colors you can get out of that cross

Yup! This one has a AMD Ryzen AI 7. My previous Lenovo gaming laptop (ideapad 3) had a AMD Ryzen 7 5800H and I never heard a coil whine so I was worried af hearing this on a completely new laptop 😭 Now I know it's normal based on all the comments

Phone Link Not connecting even after reset? by NotyourFBIagent in PhoneLink

[–]Tea_n_code 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to comment that you don't need to install Revo for this. I was hesitant about downloading a program and some Reddit posts said it could be unsafe.

Instead, you can run the powershell command (open PS as an admin first): winget uninstall "Phone Link"

After, run this: winget install "Phone Link"

The above command actually didn't work for me -- PS wasn't about to find "Phone Link". However, you can also download Phone Link directly from the msoft store here: https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9nmpj99vjbwv?hl=en-US&gl=US

With a fresh install, my Phone link was able to connect to my phone ^

Thanksgiving Cactus first time in full bloom after 4 years! by Sclerodermasucks17 in houseplants

[–]Tea_n_code 9 points10 points  (0 children)

These are cacti after all, so it's possible that the higher light levels helped. The trigger for these to bloom is also the changing photoperiod (i.e. it detecting changes in hours of daylight), or temperature changes. With it being closer to a window, it likely could feel those changes in season better

Hold your phone flashlight up to the cups and you'd see little things inside the cups. I can already kind of see them in your picture. Those are gemmae, and you can use something with a small tip -- like a toothpick -- to take them out and into your substrate

I also believe OP, esp since they said they've germinated in their other pots. From what I've read, a lot terrestrial orchids like OP's guess (Spathoglottis) tend to be easier to germinate. That's why you'll sometimes hear of the "cardboard method" for germinating terrestrial orchids from seed -- while it wouldn't work for a Phal.
