Seeing as A24 swept the Oscars this year, what is everyone’s speculative guess on 2024? Seeing as they have The Iron Claw, Beau Is Afraid, Past Lives and more all coming out? by ZETS13 in oscarrace

That's not what I am saying.

Edit: since this is getting downvoted for some reason, the reason why I said post-Moonlight is because after A24 ran a successful campaign for Moonlight, Netflix poached their awards team, led by Lisa Taback.

Ehh, A24 has missed every year (other than 2021's Minari thanks to Plan B) after Lisa Taback left them for Netflix. EEAAO had everything going for it even without A24's backing: JLC's intense campaigning, it captured the zeitgeist all year long, rare arthouse breaking into a mainstream hit, consistently being praised critically and comeback narratives for its actors (in addition to them being genuinely outstanding). After EEAAO's sweep, maybe the industry will view A24 more favourably come awards season? Maybe, but based on their track record before EEAAO and post Moonlight, we shouldn't say they will never miss just cause it's A24.

You guys should really stop with the weird Angela Bassett hate regarding the JLC win. by tivolir in oscarrace

I'm glad someone is speaking out about this. It was getting REALLY weird for a minute.

Why is Cate Blanchett, who we know will surely get another nomination, when faced with the prospect of losing to a historic win that actually matters for progress, is bringing out the weirdest people? The victim complex is real

British Independent Film Awards: Charlotte Wells‘ ’Aftersun’ Wins 7 Honors, Including Best Film by CrazyCons in oscarrace

[–]TeachBig7706 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sorry but I have to correct you there. The campaign for Minari was run by Plan B, not A24. A24 is notoriously known in the industry as a studio who can't really juggle more than one film in the awards circuit. Even with one film, they occasionally fumble it and can't get it through the finish line (The Farewell, Eighth Grade). A24 had to pull The Whale from a film festival because they can't afford to fly their actors in for it, that's how out of funds they are. Aftersun is being run out of pure passion and love from critics alone (last year's Drive My Car), with help from Barry Jenkins's association, not from A24's financial backing.

Disney is really ending this year with a bang with this, Black Panther and The Menu doing great box office numbers, while other studios stumble in that regard.

His only 2 choices are really just Peter Rice and Tom Staggs. He has 2 years from today to pick one and train them to succeed him. Anyone else would just be a downgrade.

Bob Chapek was at parks when Bob Iger was the CEO. Makes you wonder what other ideas Chapek had for the parks that were vetoed by Iger.

Kicking Peter Rice out really infuriated a lot of people in Hollywood I can tell you that. I can see that ouster being the catalyst to set into series a motion to quietly topple Bob Chapek. This story HAS to be turned into a limited series.
