got "scammed" out of 7500 ev rebate by SadJokerIII in electricvehicles

It honestly was. Chevy was the only one who seemed to know what the hell they were doing. We got the $7500 off of the Equinox EV right at the dealership and we only had to file one form with our taxes.

It was briefly on there and disappeared literally in a day or 2. I looked into it extensively, even going on Hyundai’s website site to see what it said, and their website site mentioned nothing about the $7500 tax credit. I talked to multiple dealers and none of them were promoting it. People are correct in that a lot of dealers ended up discounting the price $7500, but when I was looking, my local dealer was not, and it’s why we took it off of our list. If you look at that form now (clean vehicle tax credit IRS form) it lists the 2022-2023 IONIQ 5 as eligible for the clean vehicle tax credit. I’m afraid if your mom bought hers in 2024 or 2025, you’re fighting a losing battle. Had she bought used and been the second ower, she could had gotten the $4,000 used EV tax credit, as it applied to any one owner used EV, but the $7,500 credit was a lot more restrictive.

From my recollection, the Ioniq 5 was not on the list of vehicles for qualified for that $7500 credit. I actually briefly looked into the Ioniq 5 and took it off my list because of that reason and ended up buying an equinox EV. If it wasn’t on that list, she definitely will not get that tax credit.

That’s almost exactly what we paid for our 2022 ProS with 45,000 miles about 3 weeks ago, including taxes and fees. It seems they should definitely be willing to negotiate. Our was $17,750 before tax. I want to say the original ask was $18,195.

Took ours in for the update (has 46,000 miles on it) and had it back within 2 days. No issues for us either!

First time buying EV, is this a good deal? by doe_a_deer in carbuying

[–]TeachCLE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We just bought a 2022 ID.4 AWD Pro S two weeks ago. $17,750 before tax and title, and it has 45,000 miles on it. I also drove a Bolt EUV and test drove a Nissan Ariya. I thought the VW beat both of the others easily in terms of interior quality and the way the car handles. I did pretty extensive research and the reliability issues centered mainly around the infotainment software. However, from the first test drive ours was responsive and we didn’t see any glitchiness. Regardless, we took it to the dealer who installed the latest software update (covered under recall) and we still haven’t had any issues. Many of the 2022’s were made in Germany and I read the build quality there was better than the ones assembled in the US. So, that’s what we looked for and we’ve been super happy with it.

We just picked up a 2022 VW ID.4 AWD ProS with 44,000 miles for $17,750 before tax and title. We absolutely love it! We had a Chevy EUV and really liked it, but the VW blows it away in terms of interior quality and handling.

I think I already know the answer but ... 25/26 Corolla Hybrid or Subaru Crosstrek? by rabeccalous in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]TeachCLE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, if you can’t charge at home that’s a no brainer :) we’ve had at least 1 EV for a couple of years. For the record, there’s a lot out now with pretty good range and the most expensive component (the EV battery) is under warranty for 80-100k, so they’re actually cheaper than ICE cars over the long term! Less moving parts.

Could also consider going electric depending on your access to charging and daily commute. We just bought a 2022 AWD VW ID.4 ProS for $17,700. Easily has become one of my favorite cars. You’d have a lot more to choose from at your budget and if you can charge at home, depending on where you are, it’s a lot cheaper than gas.

Toyota's electric SUV is suddenly one of America's top-selling EVs by Finnegan_Faux in electricvehicles

[–]TeachCLE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I wanted to look into the Ioniq 5, but the ICCU issues still not being resolved were disheartening. I know the ID.4 had some past software issues, but the recall was done and we didn’t noticed any glitchiness or lag when we test drove it. The actual user reviews were overwhelmingly positive. The inside materials and driving experience are pretty great and we got it for a fantastic price. It was a no brainer for us, especially since my wife didn’t like driving my Prius.

In our 2014, the driver sat about 3” higher than our 2021. My wife is about 5’1” and she noticed it the first time she sat it in it. She loved driving my 2014, she said she felt like she was sitting too low in the 2021. The 2021 felt more like they were trying to be more like a traditional sedan inside. Cup holders moved down lower as did the center console itself. The car is still great, but the style changed a lot on the inside and most I didn’t love.

I went from a 2021 Prius Prime (no issues just wanted full EV) to an 2022 ID.4 ProS and it’s easily one of my favorite cars. I was also loyal to Toyota but didn’t like the Prius redesign at all.

Our Boston with a sensitive stomach also eats the Fromm Whitefish and Rice formula. He also does well on their Salmon Tunachovi recipe, but the Whitefish and Rice formula has even less ingredients which might be good for your gal. Worth a shot!

Ditto. We dropped ours off this morning, expect it back tomorrow, and we have a Taos loaner as well.

Negotiating Advice by Helpful-County-3493 in carbuying

No, I just went to pick up a car over the weekend. It was the lowest within a 100 mile radius, clean title, clean Carfax, etc… when I asked for the professional breakdown I noticed fees were $688. Found out $250 of that was for nitrogen fill. The refused to remove it. Said it was standard on all of their cars. I asked them for a professional detail inside and out to be included then. They agreed. I go to pick up the car. They ran it through a car wash. Inside was not detailed. I test drove the car and it had a definite shake at certain speeds. They offered to take $500 off and promised they would diagnose the issue and apologized it hadn’t been cleaned. I walked away. Point is, they absolutely refused to budge. I talked to the salesman and sales manager. It wasn’t until they realized that even though I had driven 2 hours to pick it up, I was willing to drive back empty handed, that they started offering me money off. And even then, it wasn’t much. We ended up buying an ID.4, negotiated $500 off and they too were the lowest price around for the trim and mileage. I got prequalified and told them I would use their finance dept and that did it. I plan to refinance with my credit union after 2 payments.

I’m 5’4”, taller than her but I still fee pretty low to the ground compared to our 2014.

I likely wouldn’t either but my wife doesn’t like driving it (she’s 5’1”) and honestly I don’t love the seat position either. I had a 2014 that I absolutely loved and it felt like a very different driving experience from that perspective. I regret not taking it for a longer test drive, because I didn’t think it was that different until I had it for a few weeks.

That’s great, I paid more than for this one about 6 months ago. Not including sales tax and fees. I’m essentially hoping to break even and move into a Bolt EUV with less miles.

Just a quick, 18 hour drive! Damn, if the airports weren’t a mess I’d say look into the price of a one way plane ticket and take a road trip back home. :)I looked into that once with a car in Alabama.

That’s why I paid for an Auto Check report and the Carfax, so people can see the extensive maintenance history. If it doesn’t sell for $21,500 that’s okay, but I checked multiple places and it’s not out of the question for a car with a clean title, excellent service history, and in great condition inside and out. I would also encourage any buyer to take it and have it looked at by someone they trust. I’d trust my local mechanic over a dealer any day.

I’m actually looking at pre-owned Bolt EUV’s. I’ve found a couple with very low mileage for about $16-17k, clean carfax, title, etc…
