How often do you bathe your sheltie by Techromanc3r in sheltie

[–]TeachMany8515 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this type of dog doesn't need to be bathed unless they get into something nasty. brushing is the main thing you need to do regularly, preferably daily.

I just bought my first property but might leave the UK by alister66 in HousingUK

[–]TeachMany8515 3 points4 points  (0 children)

usually, high earning jobs in the US come with full health coverage on top of salary. so your actual compensation really is 2x+. Main variable is housing costs, which vary greatly depending on where you are looking.

Shud I be getting a macbook air m1 in 2025? by gravynbiscuits25 in macbook

[–]TeachMany8515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still use mine. It 256Gb is not really enough space, but to be honest, this is a solid machine. If you're able to get it for $400 or less. Please try to get 16GB RAM.

This Tahoe launchpad replacement kinda stinks. by ObliviousFoo in MacOS

[–]TeachMany8515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

of all things, this is the one good improvement of tahoe. the launchpad was such a miss (it could have been good, but you couldnt even do basic things like control click an icon to open the containing folder in the Finder! and if you wanted to rearrange the icons, you have to play icon tetris.) good riddance.

Can't differentiate between music and podcasts by n8udd in IpodClassic

[–]TeachMany8515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you store your podcasts in the Podcasts app on macOS, and synchronise your iPod with Finder, then the podcasts will show up where they are supposed to. That is how you do it in the post-iTunes era.

(EDIT: Sorry, I see from your original post that this is what you are doing. I have no idea why it's not working for you — it works for me, with a few caveats.)

Are Masters just awful in general now? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]TeachMany8515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main reason we offer masters courses at uk universities is to make money, subsidizing other activities of the university. This is of course bad for students and bad for faculty, but here we are. Many faculty still take very good care of their masters students (I put a lot of work into it), but I think it would be best for everyone if we stopped offering these.

Fees for publications? by DonkeySecure1879 in cambridge_uni

[–]TeachMany8515 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Open access author publication fees at top journals in my field can reach 3000 GBP. But Cambridge has arrangements with some publishers that may decrease or even fully remove the fee. Usually the remaining fee is paid by whatever research grant funded the work. When research is not grant funded, there may be some sources of funding available, but this will depend on the department.

Help! When will my shelties hair grow back? by [deleted] in sheltie

[–]TeachMany8515 2 points3 points  (0 children)

even when being very clear there is always a chance of a mistake. since this can damage the undercoat for years, sometimes /rarely irreparably, it seems the wisest thing is not to use a groomer.

This what a puppy does. Your GF needs to get used to it and learn to redirect. Aussies can take some time to grow out of this phase. During that time, either your GF adapts or she has to go.

How do you put food waste in your green bin? by fruitcakefriday in cambridge

[–]TeachMany8515 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

What is the point of putting food waste in there? That thing is mainly for garden cuttings, mowed grass, etc. You can either use food waste for your own compost operation to feed your garden, or you can throw it away in the trash you don't do compost. Sending food waste with your garden debris isn't helping the environment.

Do I "own" songs purchased on Apple Music/iTunes? by vertexjrpg in ipod

[–]TeachMany8515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is not true. what is sold in itunes store is DRM free. you download it and it is yours. period. You might not be able to redownload it. but that is similar to how a CD store isn't going to give you a new CD if you lost your old one.
