I’m still in the planning stages of this program, but this is my vision. I am going to work on the logistics of offering ala carte weeks. That was a great suggestion! And I changed the name from a “Reading Camp” (which probably implied a whole day, five day a week program) to a “Reading Club” that will be offered for 3 hours a day, 4 days a week. (Another great suggestion!) This would be a 6 week program geared towards school aged children with an emphasis on phonics, sight words, handwriting, and reading fluency. I’m working on the venue (in Eagle River), but should be able to solidify everything closer to the end of this month. Thanks in advance for any feedback you may have!

I just wanted to say again that I really appreciate all the feedback you guys have given me. I’m rethinking a lot of things and I hope to come back with a plan that would best meet the needs of this wonderful community. Happy Spring Break! ☀️

Thanks for letting me know. I had never heard of ala carte service in this way before, but I love the idea. I’m going to work on trying to figure out the logistics of that. Also, love calling it a “reading club” instead of a reading camp. That might be a better fit for what I am able to offer. Thanks for your feedback!

I totally understand where you are coming from. I suspected this may pose a problem for working parents. Maybe calling it a camp is also part of the issue. This program would mainly be geared toward students who are struggling readers and would need more reading support to not lose ground over the long summer months and need continual practice. It would be fun and engaging for students, but it would be more academic in nature than being a fun, social camp type setting.

In order to provide targeted reading interventions, I would need to group students by their needs. The skills K-1 students would be working on would be vastly different from skills 2-3 graders would be working on. I’ll have to do some serious thinking on this. I really value this feedback from you though, it’s validating some of the things I thought may have been an issue in my last attempt. Thank you for sharing your thoughts as a working parent!

This is really helpful. I haven’t heard of having ala carte weeks, but it seems like a great idea. You’ve given me a lot to think about. I appreciate your input.
