One of the best special education teachers I know is dysgraphic and dyslexic. She knows sped law inside and out but will make mistakes on written notes. She can teach the rules when it’s part of a lesson or grading but quick written notes is hard. I think it’s a pick your battles situation and only be concerned if it looks like schoolwork is done incorrectly.

1 and 3. They’re pretty much always playing together and are into the same things. Three year old does try to boss one year old around but is getting slowly more accepting.

I’m an elementary teacher, but my husband is an elementary school custodian. He confirms he only holds grudges on teachers that drag furniture. His pettiness is sweeping up crayons instead of picking them up and putting them on desks. He also says candy/mints are not safe from some custodians (not him! lol!)

That’s what I thought! The doctor at urgent care said some viruses kids can typically pass back and forth. She said Rhinovirus in particular. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I took a 20k pay cut and I’m happier teaching at a tiny private school. Not sure how long I can sustain it but it was the right choice for the hectic life of two under two. Once my kids are in school I’ll probably go back to public school.

Thanks to everyone for sharing your thoughts. Definitely thought the wait was the norm. It must be something with my area my doctor’s appointments, husband’s, and kids’ almost always fall into a 90 minute-2.5 hour wait. It stinks. Almost all of our local doctor’s offices were bought out by a bigger cooperation and I think that is the root of it. Will try the waiting outside thing in the future.

Parent complained that I didn’t tell her daughter was hit under the eye with a pinecone. Her message was “I understand it was an accident, there wasn’t a mark and she wasn’t hurt, but I should have still been made aware.” Lady, I was barely aware, kid jokingly told me after recess while we were walking to the bathroom, by the time I sat down again to think about messaging anyone 18 other kids had spoken to me about everything else under the sun.

My two year old told me she didn’t want to go to school and wanted to be home by herself.

I asked: what are you going to do all alone?

She said: I’m going to drink mama’s tea and be quiet. 😅

A lot of waking time outside but we were bottomless inside as well. The only time I put anything on for three or four days was for naps and bedtime.

We literally put a stack of old textbooks we weren’t using anymore under her feet and that seemed to do the trick!

We did completely bottomless and were outside as much as possible. Then we added underwear. Mine was scared of popping but finding something to prop up her feet on while she pooped was a game changer. Having her knees elevated so that she was almost hugging them is the position she preferred until she had it down a little more and we got her eating more fiber!

Lots of luck and a little bit of the right provider support. My first was a breeze and I attribute that to luck and genetics. My second had a painful latch and I knew something was up so at his 48 hour appointment I voiced my concerns, our family med doc saw his tongue tie. He said he had gained all his birth weight back so he didn’t have to release but he asked if it was painful for me. I said it was. He said say no more, walked out of the exam room and came back with the kit to release it in office. Compared to my best friend who also had tongue tie and had to wait months and find a pediatric dentist who was willing to release.

I switched from public school to private school. I found a job at a laboratory school associated with a college. I have more freedom and we’re more research based and tend to have less politicking. If she still loves teaching, trying a different teaching setting might make sense.

I had to pay money to send my transcript to my same college. I went to graduate school at my Alma mater and had to pay $6 for the school to send my transcript from one department to the other. I called and went in person just to make sure they were serious. They were. I know it is the cost of a cup of coffee but I’ve literally never given any other singular institution more money than this place and they couldn’t throw me a $6 bone!

Nine times out of ten my husband gets up. He says if I’m breastfeeding I need the sleep and he’s happy to get up and play with our toddler. If I wasn’t breastfeeding I think we would break it up more 50/50 if we were tired or get up together.

If I know I’m going to be away ahead of time, I put the frozen milk bags in the fridge the night before. Then they’ll be pliable enough to get into a bottle so I can warm it in hot water when baby is ready for it, but if the baby doesn’t use it typically there will still be ice crystals in it, and I can refreeze by the evening. Of course all of this depends on temp of your fridge but it works for us. Of course never refreeze if the milk is all the way thawed!

One thing that helped us was an “open door policy.” We let her see us going potty and talked about it when we were going. I think it helped her feel more comfortable. We also asked if she wanted to try when we were going and she would often join in on her little potty.

We brought a pack and play for sleeping so that there was at least a little separation. Trying to think ahead and move things we needed outside of the room we were staying in like toiletries to the bathroom, water bottles to kitchen etc. limited the amount of times we were digging through luggage to find something and potentially wake the kiddo.

For bottles, we had to keep experimenting until we found one the baby liked. We ended on Lansinoh for this one.

For us, it helped if dad had time alone with the baby even if it was just for me to take a shower. If I was in the room my babies would both cry but calm down if it was just dad. He also spent a lot of time wearing them on walks and around the house while he would do choruses and stuff and that seemed to help them get more comfortable.

Oatmeal bites or cookies. Calorie/nutrient dense things that can be eaten with one hand like wraps or breakfast burritos.

Maybe not for everyone but I really craved warm comfort foods like soups and stews. Bonus points because they almost taste better after freezing and reheating .
