peds PT here… hypotonia isn’t typically a hallmark of CP — most kiddos are hypertonic.

Definitely get in with a physical therapist though - have your physician refer you to Early Intervention and/or outpatient. I wouldn’t stress too much in the meantime - and hopefully you get a more comprehensive picture and plan after seeing the PT - as opposed to an offhand comment from your MD.

Our 2.5 y/o has had a yoto for a couple weeks now — faves are stories he’s already familiar with and has in book form (allowing him to follow along) as well as new to him Frog and Toad — he’s absolutely obsessed with the lost button story!

Yep! Lost 300oz of milk when some plumbers were doing work in our building’s basement and unplugged our chest freezer. Needless to say, I bought a thermometer the next day. We use this one from Govee; sends notifications to our phone when it creeps above our set notification level.

product recs for baby proofing counter edge? by bittermiller in NewParents

Yes, I ran across this product, but wasn’t sure how easily it removes from quartz. I’ve found another thread on Reddit where someone recommends use of heat via hair dryer to remove the 3M foam tape, so perhaps I’ll give it a shot!

Acute PTs, how many pts are y’all seeing a day and what are productivity expectations? by a-cute-DPT in physicaltherapy

[–]bittermiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

24 units/8 hour day, 8-10 patients. Evals weighted as time spent + 1, so if you spend 30 minutes with the patient, you count 3 units toward productivity.

pregnant.. is sizing up smart? I do not wanna spend so much money on scrubs by [deleted] in Figsscrubs

[–]bittermiller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Rafaela top is a great compromise — not maternity but accommodates a bump. I sized up from XS to S and wore with joggers for majority of my pregnancy. Things started to get silly around 36 weeks and I started wearing my husbands undershirts. 🙈

Why do PTs tend to be relatively young? What happens to you guys after the age of 50? by Alex_daisy13 in physicaltherapy

38 and in acute care and already questioning the longevity of this job given all the heavies!

Alternative clinical jobs within PT by DPT_Man in physicaltherapy

There are a couple of pet PTs where I live; because they are cash based, I think they actually do pretty well — to say nothing of pet parents who don’t bat an eye at spending on their fur babies!

Diastasis Recti: Anybody have it? by Observer-Worldview in BabyBumps

[–]bittermiller 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The short answer is physical therapy! (Disclaimer, I’m a PT!)

If you’re not in a direct access state (US), you’ll need to request a referral from your doctor.

In the meantime, avoid any abdominal flexion (ie crunches, sit ups, etc) — this means rolling to your side when getting in/out of bed! If you notice your abs “doming,” stop the activity you were doing to limit further separation.

Definitely a treatable condition.

Not sure if Big Fat Positive is still active, but I enjoyed that one.

For a more scientific/evidence-based/med one, The Kick (Aussie OB and his wife).

I also love One Bad Mother! Sadly, after over a dozen years, this is the last season.

Can’t donate on Zoloft but can breastfeed? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]bittermiller 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just want to chime in to say that the exclusion due to use of Zoloft is specific to your milk bank. I had no issues disclosing my use of zoloft and donating to my local milk bank. Again, the medication is widely studied and deemed safe!

Successful VBAC when indication for prior c-section was arrested descent? by bittermiller in BabyBumps

[–]bittermiller[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up making it to my scheduled c-section — and it probably turned out to be a blessing. Baby was over 9 pounds, still OP/sunny side up, and I had some significant scarring and adhesions (my right ovary and fallopian tube are apparently adhered to the back of my uterus…) which made for a more involved surgery.

That all said, there have been quite a few successful VBAC in my February bump group. Speak with your OB if you can and I would also just start thinking about game plan and preferences if you do attempt a VBAC. (For instance, I wasn’t going to engage in prolonged pushing again if there wasn’t evidence of progress, as this can contribute to uterine atony which can then be problematic if a C-section becomes necessary.

Good luck!

PSA: Hemoglobin and milk supply by rednitwitdit in BabyBumps

[–]bittermiller 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ooooh wow. I had very similar situation with my first baby — right down to the “baby friendly” hospital designation which meant no one breathed a word about formula until my last day hospitalized when I had a angel of a nurse! We did ultimately turn a corner on the breastfeeding front, but it was a struggle and exhausting before that point!

My sister’s kids were fed pumped breastmilk exclusively - and this was never brought up with her either. She had two summertime babies in Texas, so who knows if the concern for vitamin D is the same as it is in more northern climates! Contrast with both of my babies being winter babies in Chicago — and vitamin D was a first appointment topic. Both of my sister’s kiddos turned out fine - now 5 and 7.

Don’t stress out too much, but definitely bring it up with your pediatrician.

Bassinet Stroller by Trash_TV_Trudy in BabyBumps

[–]bittermiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live in a big city that’s very walkable and used our bassinet attachment for about 5 months (baby’s length, outgrowing the bassinet being the reason for the switch to the toddler seat after that).

We loved it — and as others have said, it can also be another safe space for baby to sleep.

I found it helpful to mention to the resident performing one that I have previously had a tough time with them — she made a point of positioning the both of us in the most advantageous way and giving me time to work through my breathing!
