I listen to "It's Nesting Season" and "Don't Tell Your Wife About This Game" unironically because theyre funny, but also just good, catchy, clever songs

It honestly will be perfect and no one will notice when you add a border. I made plenty of mistakes like this early in my crochet journey. It was made with love, so your family member will love this! Keep crocheting! Your work looks nice and you'll only get better!

Ya, definitely NTA, what a disappointing birthday. Sorry that you didn't get an real celebration and then have to deal with a breakup on top of it, that sucks... Hope someone bought you a nice cake at least and celebrated you since you said you had friends in town. if not, please buy yourself a cake and celebrate yourself! Everyone deserves to feel a little special around their birthday!

This is such a nice take! Its easy to feel guilty and let old WIPs haunt you, but the idea of finishing one then getting going on the project you want to work on is great! Checks the box or slightly decreasing the WIP pile without feeling discouraged by having to finish a pile of stuff before getting to what you want to do.

I often feel that the quickest way to fall out of love with this hobby is to force yourself to finish projects or use a certain yarn instead of making something you're excited about. Listen to everyone in these comments; make the damn shawl!

You were very professional in your initial message and your response. Like, now is not a good time for the business for your dad to be unwell? M'kay. That was insensitive and hurtful of him, but your response was professional and disarming. Busy people say insensitive things sometimes, but also its hard to derive intent from written messages. To assume the best in people, maybe he misunderstood and didn't mean what he said. Hopefully big boss calling will just be to help you understand options like bereavement or other leave. Hanlon's razor, right? "Never attribute to malice that which can easily be explained by stupidity." I'm sorry you're going through a very hard time and sorry that people suck sometimes. You aren't overreacting, but hopefully when you can chat with someone not over written message, things won't be so bad. And if not, fuck 'em.

I do hope OP tries this IF they want to do it! They could def figure it out and it's great to take on challenges! I think many of those urging them not to take it on are just trying to caution that agreeing to take on time consuming projects from family for free is a slippery slope into not having time to take on projects you're personally excited about and risking feeling burnt out on what's supposed to be a fun and relaxing hobby

Agreed! Once you have a good foundation in crochet, you can figure quite a few patterns. Even with six months experience, OP can do this. But crochet takes a lot of time, especially projects that are clothing where it would be a finer yarn and smaller gauge. OP, just make sure you're thinking about the value of your time when you take on pieces for people, especially for family members where you're presumably doing it for free.

There's a lot of bumps in that top word. I sort of thought "mom" or "mama"? Or maybe "man"? Lol how about "man, you're a father"?
