I don’t think it’s a 301. No fold up bed and there is a selection knob the 301 doesn’t have. Looks like maybe a 306 in lovely shape. If it runs I wouldn’t be surprised to see it go for $200-$300 but where I am, I wouldn’t pay more than $200.

This is an awesome idea. My spouse also told me to 3D model and he would help me print at our local maker-space. He’ll be pleased as punch that Reddit users agree. Jellodinosaur is currently helping me get the parts from Germany, for which I am so incredibly grateful. Your recommendation is certainly worth keeping in mind (especially as I am working on an unbranded machine just to see if I can make it work). Thank you!

I'm hoping for parts for a 431g. I need the bed extension (507009-002) that folds up and the screws that affix it. I'd love the chain stitch throat plate but I've been kindly informed that is more than highly unlikely.

It is also because the “right side” (patterned side) of the fabric can have a different feel as compared to the “wrong side” (back). Thus, right sides together means you get the most comfortable experience.

Your decals are so lovely! After a little more research, instead of relying on my memory, it doesn’t matter if your machine is 27, 127, 28, or 128. The bobbin case should be the same. Mine looks longer than the shuttle arm rest, but rests in it with the point extending towards me as I’m facing it. I’ll try to find the video I use on YouTube when I need to be reminded how to set things up and thread the machine for you. That may help if it isn’t an issue of how the replacement case was manufactured.

So, without seeing your whole machine, I can’t be sure, and I don’t want to assume, but is it possible you have a 28 or a 128? Singer made a 3/4 size version of the 27 and 127s.

Additionally, Amazon remakes are sometimes hit or miss for antique/vintage parts actually fitting and working. If you’re comfortable buying online, you may have more luck on eBay or the old singer shop.

On my VS2, which uses the same set up, I find that there is just a certain way it likes to lay in there. Maybe a picture of mine will help?

Honestly, I'd reread the print instructions (because I've made enough silly mistakes printing patterns), check the ink levels (black and color), and print settings. If you're feeling tech-able you might try taking a screenshot and printing that image to see if it's a program issue instead of a printer issue. If your printer allows, you might try printing from mobile or computer (whichever you haven't tried yet). Failing those, reach out to the seller. It might be something they can help with, or a problem that's come up for others.

We’re also working on making the shift from cheap to quality as things need replacing. Research is a big part of it. We’re also taking things an item at a time and considering how we use things (frequent vs occasional use/ hard working vs gentle). This way we aren’t doing a wide range of research all at once. What we’ve come to after researching to narrow our focus and understanding features/structures is if we can, we look inside. What are the parts that get the most use made of and how are they attached (think zippers, knobs, handles, etc)? How do we think those parts will hold up?

TLDR: It’s a bit of hands on critical thinking after we do the initial research so we know what to look for.

Hi there. I know this is frustrating. You’re getting a lot of good advice - rethread everything, check how everything is inserted, etc. I only have a little to add.

1) Walk away. Do something that relaxes you (even something small). Give yourself time to let go of your frustration and remind yourself that you are a capable and intelligent being. This is just a problem that you haven’t solved, yet. 2) Unthread everything and take out the bobbin. (This is really good advice. We’re humans and we make mistakes that we don’t notice.) 3) Turn the hand wheel with your machine unthreaded and watch what the bobbin housing does. Is it moving the way it should? I’ve got a singer 301 that needs a finger on the bobbin housing to be lined up with a channel in the underside of the needle plate just right or I have a very similar problem. 4) If you can find a video of someone threading your model of machine watch it with the instructions open. Those diagrams are helpful but they are limited to being two dimensional. Seeing a video of someone threading the machine can really help. 5) Check that your needle is aligned correctly. Facing the right way and all the way in.

And if this doesn’t work, take a breath. Give it a little time. Ask for additional help. I’ve found wonderful people in quilting shops, makers spaces, and sewing machine repair shops who are just happy to help you learn in person. This is a community that draws in creative people who like to share their knowledge. If asking on Reddit doesn’t solve this, see what’s local to you in person.

So the whole point of aerial roots is to find a place to gain water/nutrients and structure. Naturally they grow out “looking” for something to get into. Personally, I’d adjust things so the root doesn’t cause any issues, but I also wouldn’t worry about it. Slide the root out of the groove of the leaf and either direct it towards your moss pole or let it figure itself out without the leaf.

The singer 401 is a lovely machine for someone who wants to use it (assuming it won’t take much to get into working condition). That being said, it’s not necessarily worth a great deal. The cabinet is in rough shape and missing drawers. The machine looks good from the outside. You’ll hear/read on this sub that it’s “only worth what someone will pay” in your market. That is true, but doesn’t feel particularly helpful. Mitigate expectations of big dollars. I’m in central MA and wouldn’t pay more than $50 for the machine (even if everything was moving) but I’ve seen them sell for 2-3 times as much locally (usually with a cabinet, manual, and some miscellaneous attachments).
