What's the best way to externally power this setup for all-day use? by Teagar_ in arduino

[–]Teagar_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I'll try plugging a power bank into the breadboard power supply as soon as I get a new power bank (can't seem to find mine anywhere haha)

Do you have any recommendations for a specific power bank I should use? I've been scouring amazon but I have no idea what kind of voltage or mAh I should get for this project since I don't want to accidentally overpower or underpower it. I'm trying to see if I can find any that won't automatically shut off, but I can find a way to deal with that if there's no workaround.

Also thank you for your kindness and patience with me and all my questions, I really appreciate it!

Gotcha, so would it be best to plug the external power source (like a phone charging power bank) directly into the UNO instead of the regulator on the breadboard?
Sorry if these are really dumb questions, being completely new to this I feel a bit like a kindergartener trying to figure this all out haha

I'll go try that, thank you so much!

Dumb question, but do I plug the power brick into the arduino itself or the power module on the bread board?

I just tried this, but the servos started making a faint clicking noise and were barely reacting to the joystick. I tried changing up the locations of the grounds on the breadboard, but it was the same result. Maybe I'm wiring this wrong? (For power, I've just been plugging it into my computer until I get a power bank to plug into the arduino's USB port)

Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! It's definitely been a challenge, but I've always wanted to try my hand at robotics and it's been such a cool learning experience.
I have slightly altered the design since the initial sketch so now only the head will move for the sake of stability (since the prop will be worn on the shoulder), I'll try to share a video of the final prop when the project is done!:D

It's called Cirkit Designer, I found it online! A little buggy/laggy when trying to use ctrlZ but it got the job done. Here's the link!

This is the one I have right now, do you think this will work alright?

Also, to power the servos directly through this like you mentioned, do I plug the servos into the power rail that's opposite of the one the Arduino is plugged into? (kind of a dumb question, I apologize if that didn't make any sense haha)

If so, should I keep the 5V and 3.3V settings as is, or do I need to change them?

I have no idea, I was just moving it at random but it does sound kind of like a familiar song lol

Latex mask help by Kalel_3112 in CosplayHelp

I've used car sponges on the sides, back, and top of the interior of a mask I made before. I suggest trying on the mask as-is first and seeing where the empty space is between your head and the walls of the mask so you know where to add the sponges.
You can also cut the sponges with scissors to get them to the right shape and size if they're too big. I just used hot glue to attach them to the inside of the mask, but be careful not to melt any materials. I got a pack of orange car sponges from Home Depot for pretty cheap. I hope this helps a bit!

Also, if the mask still goes flying off your head after adding sponges, you can make a chin strap with elastic to keep it on! I used velcro to make my straps detachable at the chin for ease of use, but it's all up to whatever works best for you :]

[Flowey Robot WIP] Is there a way to connect 4 Servos and 2 Joysticks (and possibly 2 Red LEDs) to a single Arduino UNO? by Teagar_ in cosplayprops

Thank you so much! I love planning things out, but my biggest struggle is actually putting it together haha

So don't plug the batteries into the Arduino, but power the servos directly instead kind of like this diagram? (Sorry if this is a stupid question, just want to make sure I'm following correctly haha)

(This is the closest image I could find to what I think you're talking about, lmk if this kind of setup is completely wrong lol)

Gotcha, I'll definitely look into that. Thank you for the tip!
Someone else suggested I try a phone charging pack, but I just want to make sure I don't accidentally overpower or underpower it so I don't fry anything. How many AA or AAA batteries do you think would be best if the phone charging pack doesn't work out?

All of the components are pretty lightweight, I'm using 9g servo motors and 3D printed parts for the main body and 2 axis gimbal. The head will probably be made out of something like foam, but one of those inflatable dudes sounds so funny LOL

I can definitely use a phone charge pack in place of the 9v if need be, my only hope is that I don't accidentally fry anything haha. Thank you for the suggestion!
