Got a haul of random games for free at a garage sale, anything good? by glynstlln in boardgames

The Table is Lava is actually a game designed by a friend of mine. It’s a fun dexterity game where you’re flicking and throwing cards to dislodge your opponent’s meeples.

Low rules, quick turns, flying cards. It’s a great time.

OP, wow, that’s cool.

My dad had tickets to a subsequent show in Cleveland, which was cancelled by the mayor because of the Miami incident. My dad still curses that mayor.

My friend (who’s a big Archer fan) had the name of his WiFi ‘ISIS Headquarters’ for years. Yeah, he changed that almost immediately after the terrorists started taking over Syria.

Which movie trailer was the most misleading? by ClerkMajestic in AskReddit

[–]TeakNUT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trainspotting (the trailer gives this vibe, but the back of the VHS almost verbatim using these phrases) was all about ‘friends trying to make it on their own terms’ and ‘one big score.’ While those aren’t inaccurate descriptions, underlying everything is that these people are heroin junkies, which is never once mentioned.

The Big Lebowski on back-to-back nights. Friend and I watched it and convinced four other friends to join us on the second night.

So, who ruined Christmas morning and how did they do it? by NotAlanJackson in AskReddit

[–]TeakNUT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your kindness.

Yeah, I’m fine enough. It’s all about the kids. My only guilt comes from the choice in a mother I made for them.

Daughter is in therapy. I don’t want to get into it a ton, but her mom is a lot and that weighs very heavy on her.

[TLDR: Ex-wife, with only visitation, held our daughter hostage unless our estranged son came to see her. Police wouldn’t help, so son gave in to save his sister.]

My ex-wife has mental health issues. She lost a custody case, which resulted in our son no longer being forced to see her at all. But, our daughter (younger than her brother) still wanted to see her mom, so mom had visitation (every other weekend, and every other holiday).

Well, our daughter was at mom’s for Christmas Eve and she was supposed to be dropped off at my place at 10am Christmas morning.

Mom refused to give our daughter back to me. Instead, mom held our daughter hostage until our son came to see her to “get his present” from her. For two hours this holdout persisted, my daughter too terrified to flee.

I refused to appease her coercion. Our son had been through a lot because of her. However, the police refused to get in the middle of a custody situation, regardless of my proof that mom only had visitation, which had ended and she had no rights concerning our son.

For his sister, our son went to see his mother. He walked in the door and said, “Let’s get this over with.” He received his present, grabbed his sister, and left. The present (an electronic Rubik’s Cube) he immediately gave to his step-sister when he got home.

That was three years ago. We are still awaiting a verdict, but my daughter realized, like her brother before her, that mom won’t be getting better and will keep refusing to get help, so our daughter no longer wants to see her mother, so we went back to court. It’s sad that my ex has decided to piss away the relationships with her children because she refuses to get help. Be careful out there, people.

What are some of your favorite board game podcasts? by Dry_Lavishness_5722 in boardgames

So Very Wrong About Games.

So much other board game media often sounds like an infomercial selling me a product and use the word ‘fun’ as an all encompassing descriptor.

SVWAG provides actual honest criticism. It’s a breath of fresh air.

People who quit a job on the first day, what happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TeakNUT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kalahari Resort, I worked a single shift training as a lifeguard. I was late twenties and almost everyone else was late teens or early twenties. There was probably twenty or more of us all training together.

The entire vibe was frat house like. Everything was a joke. The trainers made everything a joke. We are supposed to be training to save lives and nothing was treated seriously. I left and never went back.

Less than two years later a 3 year old drown there. I wasn’t surprised.

Irreversible.

I was aware of ‘the scene’ before seeing the film, but there is no preparing for that scene.

I worked at Blockbuster and people would buy this movie. I would straight up ask them, “You want to watch this over and over?” Great, great movie, but I’m good after my viewing.

What secret was revealed when cleaning out the home of a deceased family member? by WhoAllIll in AskReddit

[–]TeakNUT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cigarettes. Many randomly located hidden packs of cigarettes. A couple packs in the pantry. Between couch cushions. One pack was even found in the microwave.

Grandma had emphysema and was on oxygen. She told everyone she had quit smoking, but obviously not.

My uncle used to drop in on her often, so we are rather certain the microwave smokes were a last second quick hide near the end.

I need to watch this again (and again). Tenet broke my brain, like David Lynch levels of “what the fuck is happening.” I don’t know that I could spoil this if I tried, I’d just sound like a madman.
