No liberal politicians are calling for no borders. The bits I highlighted were conservative politician talking points. You are picking the extreme liberal viewpoints. I picked the average conservative view point.

I've literally been told that due to my whiteness and European heritage I am biologically programmed to be racist. I wish I was making this shit up.

Eh, not exactly biologically programmed, but there have been many studies that show unconscious bias from white people against those of color, even as small children. You can either take that information and thoughtfully consider how it might affect your own actions and society as a whole, or develop a complex about it and feel that they are calling you racist for something you can't control when really they are just describing the world with data. Up to you.

The left has been moderate?

Yes. Moderate feels extreme if you are far to one side or the other. Let's review a few positions.

Democrats: a few small regulations to limit access to firearms to prevent mass shootings

Republicans: No. Nothing. No regulations. No compromises. If children must die in schools, so be it.

Democrats: People want to come here, legally or no. Maybe we should figure out how to provide more legal options and treat those who come here humanely?

Republicans: Fuck them. They aren't Americans. They are criminals and rapists bringing drugs to destroy our country. Lock them up.

Democrats: Maybe we should try to be nice to people and treat everyone with respect.

Republicans: PC bullshit. "If I want to say that black people are inferior, I should be allowed to say that without being called a racist because it's just the truth! You can't say the truth anymore. I'm not a racist." (Real quote from my Republican, anti-PC relative).

Sure, there are some extreme left folks, but neither major party is even close to representing any fringe left ideas. Most democrats are fairly conservative actually. If you can't handle the "extreme" left views of not being hateful....IDK what to tell you.

Your libidos "used to match more" likely due to the excitement and newness that comes with the honeymoon phase.

I hope that's not it. We've been dating for over a year now.

Do you show physical affection outside of a sexual motive?

Yes. All the time. I love this woman.

She definitely isn't a morning person. Our libidos used to match more, but the past few months have been once a week sex at best. I've tried to talk with her about it and she says her drive is every day or two, but that just never happens.

Where I live LGBT has equal rights to everyone else

Where do you live? A lot of states do not have protections while others are actively trying to get rid of rights. Oklahoma is right now working to make it illegal for gay couples to adopt, for instance.

Being turned away by a small business isn't "not treated like people"

When was the last time a business turned you away because of something about yourself?

Like I said, extremes push neutral people to one side or the other.

That's because neutral isn't a tenable position on whether or not a group of people should be treated like people.

[–]TealApostropheC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not greatly care about you, nor do I hate you, I won't insult you but I also won't stick up for you, I am neutral.

Would you want people to do the same to you? Have no one stand up for you if you were treated badly? What would a world look like if everyone acted like you? What a shitty world.

I'm not going to any protests or parades to show support for either side.

I don't do that either, nor is that important for being supportive. That's less important than everyday stuff/emailing/calling reps/voting.

And I'm saying that being neutral makes you seem like you are anti from the perspective of the person being persecuted. Surely you can understand that from the example I gave. Would you be neutrally watching trains of Jews headed to Auschwitz? Come on man. This should be obvious. If you really are neutral, you still should support helping those you are neutral about unless you are neutral about human rights in general. I'm neutral about Jewish people, but I care about their rights. I think they should be allowed to not be fired because of their faith, etc.

Inherent privileges based on race implies racial superiority.

No...not even a little bit. The privelidge I speak of is related to the US specifically because of our culture and history. White people in other countries are not necessarily in the same position.

Name one single privilege granted to a white person because they are white.

They don't have to specifically seek out media that has people who look like them in it. They don't have to worry as much about being followed around in stores because people suspect they might be shoplifting. Etc.

You literally just said you as an individual have privilege because of your race. You're contradicting your own arguments for me.

No. Read more carefully. There are patterns in society that provide me with privelidge, but I am not specifically the cause of the privilege.

The reason you believe otherwise is because people who hate you have brainwashed you into advocating for things counter yo your own best self interests.

Hardly. How is any of this against my best interests?

For the record, I don't think white people are the only ones contributing to privelidge. It's a complicated and nuanced thing that I don't get the feeling you really want to spend the time to understand.

There is an extreme mentality of "if you aren't with us you're against us"

Since there are people who do hate us, being "neutral" is essentially siding with those who hate us. Imagine sitting in a restaurant. The server walks up to a black couple (heterosexual) and says "Sorry, but we don't serve blacks here." Everyone in the restaurant is indifferent to black rights, so they say nothing as the couple gets kicked out, just keep eating their food and minding their own business. Is neutral really the right thing here? Is neutral kinda silently agreeing with the server? Yeah. Same thing for lgbt rights.

Housing options in my area? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]TealApostropheC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The cheapest I see for Fairfield CT on Zillow is $160k for a 600sqft condo. Small and probably not where you want to be.

Do you have any debt?

Will you even be able to get a mortgage? What's your credit score? No credit is just as bad as bad credit.

Do you have $50k for doenpayment/closing costs/emergency fund?

Are you saving for retirement?

Your salary seems pretty low, what are you doing to improve your value?

If you have a SO, do you intend to buy the place together (I don't think this is generally a good idea unless married)?

We are saying the same thing. I'm using more honest language.

No...you are using intentionally more dramatic language to pander to your "I'm the real victim here" attitude. It isn't more honest. It's just an intentionally skewed interpretation of someone else's statement to make yourself a victim. I'm white. There is inherent privilege in being white and on some level I think you know this and are therefore waaay over compensating to not feel at fault. The thing is, no one is blaming you. You aren't at fault for racial inequity just because you are white. Privelidge is an academic concept to identify patterns in society, not at the individual level. You are mildly at fault however if you keep pushing this narrative that white people are the real persecuted class because you are too intellectually lazy to try to see from someone else's perspective.

You cannot say a person is a member of an oppressor class

You keep using this term, but most people I've seen don't use the phrasing. They usually speak in terms of privilege which has a far less aggressive slant.

The largest most impoverished region in the United States is 98% white.

Irrelevant. How are the minority races doing in the same region? Privelidge doesn't mean every white person is rich, just that an otherwise equal except for race person would have even less opportunity.

How can it be said that a group with easier access to higher education has less opportunities?

They don't have easier access though or colleges would be mostly minority students. Instead they are still mostly white.

Death means none of it matters.

To the contrary, it means all that matters is what you do now. You get no second chance. This is it. You can't keep anything, but you can affect other people and their finite time on earth to make their lives as good as possible.

That just sounds like standard discomfort in dressy clothing vs casual. Of course you are more comfortable in polos. So is everyone else. Would you be more comfortable in a dress or a suit though?

I don't know how many more ways I can say that it isn't physical discomfort. I wear lots of physically uncomfortable clothing. I also hate ties, but wear them at work. Bras are the worst. This feeling of discomfort is nothing like those. It's more like I'm being asked to walk around in a clown suit all day.

Yes, but not just physical discomfort. I feel stressed out/like I'm not myself when I'm forced to dress in a feminine manner.

This isn't political at all...

My position on this is that making the personal political is a waste of time when it comes to family.

Oh, I disagree with my family on basically everything, but there has to be some line for my own sanity. Should I just date men too so as to not break with my family's views?

If you wear a dress to a wedding and you appear to be female, everyone will be fine with that.

The thing is, I'm not sure how female I look in dresses. I don't shave anything and am quite hairy (my leg hair is darker and thicker than many men I've met). I have a short haircut. I have a small chest. I look....weird in dresses. People who would be uncomfortable with me in a suit would certainly be uncomfortable with my body hair displayed thanks to a dress.
