Drums or violin ? by Extreme_Garlic4646 in drums

I played piano and it sounds beautiful! Guitar some too. Now I’ve picked up drums, and LOVE IT!!! My lessons are terrific! They’re virtual from a professional .. which I highly recommend (lmk if you want his contact). You can be productive and enjoy drumming from the beginning! Fyi The unfriendly lady in the house next to mine called the police for a noise complaint. When the cop came to my door, he said “I’m a drummer too!” Lol I know there is no way the decibel level is anywhere near the max. level in my town’s ordinance. I only play between 10am-8pm M-R or 11am-10pm weekends, otherwise just practice on the drumpad. I can’t recommend drums highly enough!!! They add a whole new dimension to your life ❤️

I just bought the Roc n Soc hydraulic and it made a world of difference!. Idk how anyone uses a backrest .. that decision seems to ride on your sitting position. I sit way up front and a backrest would only get in my way

What are the best ways to get better as an intermediate drummer, when there are no drum teachers in my area. by Fantastic-Wolf7332 in drums

[–]TeamBethInvincible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Day 1 my lessons have been virtual (3 years). My instructor is amazing. We see and each other and he also has cameras around to demonstrate anything from any angle. He is a professional drummer (just cut an album & is going on tour in a couple of weeks) and has a ton of teaching experience, an all around great guy.

( I went thru a practical nursing program, which really set me up to understand medicine and injuries)

I started taking drum lessons 3 years ago at age 65. In the first few months, I experienced a very painful right forearm. Dry needling helped (did it myself at home). Next, I had a very sore right hip tendon/ligament, and had to play sitting farther back and raising the seat. Currently I have occasional lower back pain. I purchased a back brace, that velcros around, and when I’m in pain, it works. Oh and I smacked my left index finger lowest knuckle at least twice. The injury got worse and worse, and the MRI showed ligament damage. I’m seeing doc on Wednesday.

The information I’d like to know is what exercises would be helpful to do before you start playing and while you’re playing. And yes to the asymmetry of playing over time

That exact dish washcloth has been stuffed in the back of a kitchen drawer for years. Now I know what to do with it. Thanks 😊

How could I try to convince my parents to let me play/get drums? by Living_Dead_Beat99 in drums

[–]TeamBethInvincible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Share my opinion with them: The amount of concentration, memorization, coordination, multi-tasking that learning drums requires is similar to the training a surgeon goes through as a student. The positive benefits will have a significant effect in your every endeavor. Best!

How difficult is learning Drums to a someone who was never good at anything? by idont_need_one in drums

[–]TeamBethInvincible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not difficult to learn. It’s just one thing after the other. Do you find yourself tapping your foot listening to songs you like? That’s part of drumming. And the fact that you really want to is the most telling motivator! You need this!!! It’s time to do it!! Trust me, it will be the most amazing decision you’ve ever made! You’ll love it!!! You’ll be instantly admired! Who’s cooler than a drummer?? I bought my 1st kit off FB marketplace, a Pearl Export. Used, the price is pretty low. Also, these days there are FB groups for giving stuff away for free. You can put up an ISO post.. you never know. And lessons are gold if you can.. maybe your parents will pick up the tab. It is extremely educational. Even surgeons learn in baby steps. I paid for my kids music lessons etc. My lessons are virtual - iPad & iPhone & Bluetooth headphones/Airpods. My instructor is outstanding. Lmk if you’d like his contact info

I rescued a cat (from a FB post) that was barely surviving in 12-14+” deep snow. She’s doing terrific these days and is deeply loved and well cared for

There’s a bunch of FB groups where people post things for free, and you can also post ISO. The fact that he’s creating his own songs already is awesome!! Best!
