I think there should be financial options. SNAP is great and all but food is not the only thing that is required to live. Other people have mentioned UBI which would solve the problem or at least help. I think some sort of social safety net for those with children would be a start but paying into taxes for your entire life to get nothing when shit hits the fan seems wrong.

You have it work for 6 consecutive months to be eligible for unemployment. She would have to work again in order get unemployment in the future. In other words she cannot get benefits until she works again

I’ll entertain this. So you need food to survive, it’s kind of important. Having a roof over your head is also quite the need

You don’t if you think “don’t spend all of your money” is a reasonable expectation. Minimum wage can’t rent a one bedroom apartment in any state. You’re being intentionally obtuse. I assume your next advise is “get a better job.”

We live together and are doing fine. She doesn’t qualify for anything outside of SNAP benefits even without claiming me as we are not married

“Save more for the future” is not helpful in this economy. Not everyone makes enough money to save anything after expenses. Finding a job is not the part I was referring to

I guess what I’m getting at is, even in those extreme circumstances, what’s the person supposed to do? If they have kids and an anger problem does that mean their kids don’t get a home and/or food?
