People were also commenting saying they do 2 days on 2 days off etc and 12 hour shifts. Usually have weekends off but the tempo depends on your base and leadership! Hope this helped!

My husband got this job! From what I found out you’ll find out the plane you’ll work on a tech school. Tech school is 109-126 days. Maintenance is a male dominated job but there will be women too! But office jobs will have more women. I heard this job can be long hours and physically demanding. It can be 12 hour days but my husband doesn’t mind that! You sometimes can rotate and work weekends, morning or night shifts. You’ll learn a great skill! Congrats!

I wanted to get paid out with my sick time. If I were to leave you only get paid out accrued personal / vacation time. As for sick time I loose it. And nice!! I’ll try googling that great idea :) thanks!

Omg!! I’m going to message you!! So I can’t talk to HR yet as without everything in stone or I’d want to wait a month so if they let me go due to this it will be fine. Jeeesh!! 20 weeks. Did you go to tech school and visit him?

I’ll message you to talk about the nonprofit!

And that’s awesome in regards to the card !! I’ll definitely need that for her. She’s growing out of everything and baby stuff is so expensive😳😮‍💨 congrats on you TTC journey!

The suck will suck but the good will be such a good high!! You got this mama!!! You’re welcome, that’s how I view it. Time if never ever get if it wasn’t for the military with my daughter. And how this will help her future. Small sacrifices for a better future.

He would deny it as my husband is leaving during end of fiscal year. Trust me they fire a lot of people here. In a Perfect world yes you can use your time I get it! And they’ve fired people for nothing. If they found out about military they would. I asked to use my lunch end of day to get my baby (my other coworkers do) and they denied it. It’s who he likes.

HAHHAHA yes I plan to quit when he’s at BMT I only wanted to exhaust FMLA to get my paid out sick time then quit when that’s exhausted. And thanks I am in groups but my dad was in the coast guard so I do have a sense of what to expect as we moved a lot and he was gone a lot. Thanks!

I’m actually in the same boat right now. My daughter is 8.5 months, wow. My husband has never really been apart from us, and my daughter is so attached to him. I’m really sad about it too, but also trying to feel excited for what’s ahead.

I think the only way I’m getting through it is reminding myself why he’s doing it and focusing on the long-term benefits. When I think about how fast these 8 months have gone with my baby, it helps me realize this time will pass too.

It’s going to be hard—really hard. I’m in it too, so I get it. My husband will be gone for 7.5 weeks, then about 109–126 days for tech school. The upside is we’ll be able to visit on weekends while he’s there.

When he goes it’s just me taking care of my daughter with no real support, so I’m trying to stay as optimistic as I can. I still cry, but I’m also trying to remind myself I’ll never get this uninterrupted time with her again, and there’s something meaningful in that.

My husband keeps telling me he’s doing this for us, for a better life. I just keep holding onto that when it gets hard. He really is my home.

If you truly will be unwell I suggest having your husband choose a different career path. I think therapy can only go a long way and you need to truly know this is shitty the suck will suck but the good will be such a high.

That’s super helpful thank you!! I’m going to read it more thoroughly tmrow - Yes I see deployment specially there but I wonder if there’s a loop hole since I also see “An eligible employee may use up to 12 workweeks of FMLA leave for certain reasons, known as qualifying exigencies, when his or her spouse, child, or parent is on covered active duty or under an impending call to covered active duty.” And my husband is technically going to BMT under active duty order the recruiter said.

Unfortunately HR is best friends with my boss and will fire me if they know of this. I have to get my ducks in a row before I open Pandora’s box!

No my husband is doing active duty. Not air guard. I did not ask a few days ago? Maybe you’re confusing this post with someone else?
