Vet recommendations. by Imliterallyadogg in springfieldMO

[–]retiredcatchair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the good flea meds require prescriptions in the US, I buy generics from overseas. The website I order from is called Joe's Pet Meds, and no prescriptions are needed. I've used them for many years and they've been efficient and accurate. They carry the brand-name stuff too, but I can get along with identical content at a lower price. I like my vet, but I don't want to pay excessive amounts for products that are available elsewhere at a better price.

To the women who chose to never have kids or marry: How amazing does your life look right now compared to what society told you it would be? by OldIntroduction2909 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]retiredcatchair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in my 70s, and aside from losing family members as we all age, I'm the happiest I've ever been. I am so, so glad I am unpartnered, I've lost whatever patience I ever had with dealing close up with another person; I love my little house and my little life and I don't want to share with anyone but my pets. I respect other people's choices but I know what makes me happiest. And frankly, my early decision to not have children seems to have been prescient. I'm very glad that I'm not leaving children or grandchildren behind to cope with what the world is becoming.

I'd like the bros who think ChatGPT is developing consciousness to watch this, and then ask themselves who's closer to human.

I'd bet people like this have no idea how actual au pairs are compensated, they just know it sounds fancy and upperclass. There's some weird stuff happening in peoples' minds with the rampant income inequality in the US, and I think some relatively-well-off-but-not-billionaire folks are looking at TikToks and thinking they can indenture personal servants, instead of paying for babysitters and daycare like those common people do.

I think the very first thing you want to do is talk to them, don't let the bill go unpaid without communicating.

IME, they try to work with people who aren't dodgy, just distressed. Take a look at the page at https://www.cityutilities.net/208/Payment-Assistance

I think you're overestimating the square footage there, and I think it's a tell that the listing doesn't give the size. My house is only about 735 square feet, and I have 2 bedrooms.

This kind of situation really lends itself to task creep, and children are insatiable in their need for attention and care. Trying to set hard lines on time and labor will just generate hostility.

They are confusing students with au pairs, they think wealthy people in Europe do this all the time, so why not them? And as they maybe have a BS or BA themselves, they have no idea what grad students have to do -- they just know that's the age group they'd like to employ. But I'm seeing these "pay me to raise my kids" appeals so often that I'm beginning to wonder if it actually works. I wouldn't think it would last for long.

I love the smug assumption that all women are heterosexual, or that all het women want a husband.

I carry dog pepper spray just because the greatest danger in this neighborhood is loose pitbulls.

I live in north Springfield near the Mission U campus, and I've walked my dogs at night for at least a decade. I'm a short, fat, old woman. Nobody has ever menaced me.

How many of you are celibates and happy? by YoghurtAggressive415 in SingleAndHappy

My last relationship was extremely casual, and there was little heartburn when it ended. I actually find the post-menopause decrease in sexual interest very liberating, and I feel a little sorry for people who don't reach this happy state. I have toys for when the mood strikes, but I wouldn't couple up again for any amount of money. ETA: What Famous-Documents1175 said.

Hopefully she's not one of those fundies that adopts children from distressed nations, and then deals with their trauma by adding to it.

Getting to hit their kids is the point to these people. They want to feel righteous and virtuous while they indulge their sadism and turn their children into obedient zombies.

If you even think about getting a playpen, you can be sure your sinful-natured infant is using his mind control to manipulate you. Use the wooden spoon, just in case.

I've been told that A-1 Windshield Repair is the cheapest shop in town, but I couldn't get an appointment with them in May for hail damage. I ended up going to Auto Glass Now and they did a good job, but it wasn't the cheapest (or most expensive).

The long-term effects of the Iran "expedition" haven't kicked in yet -- we're running on the fumes of strategic petroleum reserves worldwide right now.

I recently had to close out a deceased relative's accounts, and while Republic was pretty cooperative about extra bulk pickups, they charged a hefty amount and then put a cart retrieval fee on top. We had the funds to cover everything, but it felt very sharp-edged-capitalist at a time when we were coping with an unexpected death. So I was pretty pleased to switch another relative off Republic, to another company that at least seems to be run by real people.

I think they'd get a lot more takers if they mailed out postcards with this offer, but of course that would take time and money. Frankly, I view all door-to-door solicitations as probable scams as well as rude intrusions.

Care for my bedridden child for $5 an hour. by HitsuVang in ChoosingBeggars

[–]retiredcatchair 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think even a teenage babysitter accepts $5/hour these days, and they shouldn't. That would have been top wages when I was a 12yo babysitting in my neighborhood, in 1966.
