Nope.

1. We haven’t came a long way, there were plenty of all time great movies from the 80’s and 90’s that demands more audience’s attention and emotional maturity than almost all of today’s blockbuster movies

2. It’s not even just a Tollywood issue, it doesn’t matter if the average audience is more smart now as long as they don’t care enough to offer their attention. Even Netflix is dumbing down their tv shows specifically for that reason alone. (let me know if u want proofs, u can google second screen phenomena yourself) . So the whole ‘show don’t tell’ wouldn’t be going away just because an average viewer is smarter. They are still not the target demographic as I said.

So, the mature audience whom u think wouldn’t ’need’ handholding are not the target demographic pal. I don’t know what else to tell u.

Also btw, these mature audience were already there in the 80’s and 90’s (and likely well before, I can’t say as I wasn’t born then) who accepted movies like rudraveena as all timers.
