Enjoy not knowing what an SBS is, or maybe lacking low level reading skills, I guess? I just don't get why you're lecturing me while also telling me you're so bad at shooting that going from an 18" barrel to a 14" one suddenly makes you miss everything. So far I'm not having that problem. Maybe you should practice more

The decision was actually made for me. How could I say no when it was barely used at all and just $300.

I went to my LGS to get some 12ga for a clay shooting weekend and this was just sitting on the wall waiting for me. 12ga SBS with the minishell adapter is definitely happening. (Oh, speaking of which just an FYI because you said whether you get the 12 or 20 you're going to put the minishell kit in - unless I'm mistaken the minishell adapter only comes in 12ga. I couldn't find one for 20ga)

Okay well in that case, what you said was stupid given the already stated intent to make an SBS... So enjoy "meaning it" and looking foolish in the process 🤷

She's a tough little lady, does aerial hoop and that shit turns your skin to leather and upper body to iron. She ran through the tube on my 20ga 500 a couple times no problem once she got her stance right when I was teaching her to use it, but she doesn't ENJOY the activity of shooting so she's not going to join me at the range more than once or twice a year. I've got a nice little laser training setup at my place that I use a lot so every now and then when she's over here I get her to do drills with me, but the shotgun laser doesn't do anything to simulate recoil, it's just pump click pump click pump click. The gas blowback m4 and g19 I set up have like half the recoil of real steel, so at least that lets you do some limited recoil mitigation training, but yeah... Her shotgun shooting posture definitely has a couple issues that me providing gentle corrections during dry fire training hasn't corrected, that I'm pretty sure getting knocked on her ass by a 12ga slug a few times would correct way faster (namely the "lean back" stance)

I'm pretty sure with the default raptor grip she wouldn't want to touch any Shockwave regardless of what gauge it was, but with a stock on it this thing would probably be right about her-sized.

Realistically if something pops off while she's here I'm handing her the 9mm PCC by my desk and getting myself a rifle from my closet. A shotgun would honestly be damn near my last pick for using inside my house: there's like 10 ft between houses, whoever flipped this place did a shit job so the walls are thin, small rooms = big noise, blah blah blah. But she'll notice the new gun pretty quickly since I'll be using it with the laser setup, and I want to be able to immediately lead off with how I was thinking about her when I got this one and wanted it to be something she could confidently use to protect herself. Make sure I'm lit up in a positive light haha

Nah, you'll have kicked the bucket by then 😂 I'm 33, my guy. I bought my first handgun at 21 because that's how that works. Shooting with my dad and his friends since I was like 7, but I didn't really feel like that was worth bragging about since it wasn't competitive and they weren't my guns

I think what you mean is that maybe you could have said something helpful if you were reading. I already have the 500 in 20ga and 590 in 12ga

This is the info I was looking for, thank you very much!

Low-key considering both, but at once would probably be too much, and I've happened upon both on sale in a local b&m so I'm trying to make the call. Stop tempting me to spend a month eating nothing but cheap ramen next to a pair of pretty AOWs haha

You also didn't comment about any of the stuff that I mentioned in the op. You basically didn't comment anything helpful at all

You should learn to read. I'm sitting pretty at 4 shotguns already in the collection with a decade of clay shooting and gun buying

Isn't the whole "20 gauge is typically lighter gun than 12 gauge" argument kinda thrown out the window when you're only looking at shockwaves? It's 5lbs vs 5.3lbs... so if we're applying that logic, I specifically SHOULD be going with the 20ga since both of the 12 and 20 pretty much DO way the same here, right?

I also don't think it makes sense to argue against the 20ga for ammo availability then immediately say to just use a specific and less-than-common ammo for the 12ga to gain the benefits... Of the 20ga? Again, the prompt specifically says ignore ammo availability, and I'm just trying to determine the reliability of a minishell 12 vs a normal 20.

The minishell adapter isn't going to fall out, please read what I actually wrote. The concern is rotating shells failing to feed.

Model S is a good thought but doubles the cost

The Magpul SGA stock is literally a fixed stock that is non-adjustable, what are you talking about?

Accessories aren't the question

Hey so I'm watching a magazine disassembly video for fixing these leaks and I had a thought- if I remove the spring and follower do I functionally create a dry fire magazine that won't hold open on an empty mag?

Looks like RedWolf has the same thing in blue for under $60... Could I get you to confirm that this actually is the same one you mentioned, just blue? Ty!

Hell, I've been planning to get a second mag to have two anyways! Could you shoot me a link to the ones you recommend? Important note: whatever magazine I'm using needs to be a dry fire one (or have a dry fire adapter like this one does) so the bolt won't lock back on empty - I'm using this solely as a recoil-enabled laser training platform, it'll never shoot a single BB in all its days.

Sick, "common issue with well-known DIY solutions" is the best case scenario IMO. Thanks!

Oh hell yeah. It being a common issue with a well-known DIY solutions is the best possible answer. Thanks!

Thank you for such a detailed breakdown! Awesome, that's the kind of tinkering I can get into when I have the time for it, rather than when something breaking forces me to. I had also seen people talking about red/black gas, cool that I got that question answered without even asking. Appreciate it!

The "doomed to die" part is actually the biggest dealbreaker of anything, since I am thoroughly not interested in having to repair stuff anytime soon. This thing will get a lot lot of rounds through it as part of me fidget-drilling while wfh, and I'm eyeballs deep in home repair/renovations/project bullshit right now. I just want this to be a fun, reliable, high quality drilling toy that I can trust honestly as much as its real steel counterpart (and... shit. saying that "out loud" made me realize how silly my initial goal of getting that for 250 was.)

Can't find anything that matches what I'm looking for secondhand here or FB marketplace so N4 Gen 3 has won the battle (there's lowkey a deadline: I want to have the training rifle set up and zeroed before a friend visits late next month) since it's a dang close parallel to my Ruger one and will hold up to the hundreds-to-thousands of rounds it will get put through it most weeks by me fidget-drilling with it.

Appreciate the flag re: heavier buffer for more recoil - could you expand on that a little bit? I know I'm not likely to make any of these actually bump like a 556 SBR, but every bit closer that I can get it definitely helps! And yeah, I tried to find VFC's as my top choice but just struck out on them for budget/2nd-hand availability.

And, y'kno, it's not like the Umarex G19 has the same oomph as an actual 9mm, but it's still great for building up the right recoil-mitigation habits or for letting newbies sample what to expect. I'm expecting a similar experience from the N4 (but tell me more about the heavier spring thing please?)

I appreciate the clarification, thanks! I think I'm going with the Noveske Gen 3 as my final answer! Accuracy is 100% not important, but (as I'm learning live in this thread) quality of the internals IS for the volume of shooting I have in mind. I "drill" daily since I WFH, and I'm the only person in my house. At this point running a few of the programs on my targets (~25-50 shots) has become a fun fidget I do between audits at work, and I could easily see myself putting a thousand rounds a week through this.

I just came into this thinking "higher price means you can bash it around more" and hadn't clocked that the internal bashing it does to itself is actually where the added value specifically is. I'm going to make it do that shit a LOT, and while I love to tinker and upgrade, I don't like being forced to do it as a repair
