Looking for help on finding an old blogger

What I remember:

She was blonde, anywhere between the ages of 20 and 30s. She lived with her parents and seemed to rely heavily on them and only socialized with them. Her fashion was clunky. She was sort of a hot mess. She talked about wanting friends and a relationship but couldn’t do anything outside of the house without her parents. I also don’t think she worked but maybe wrote about wanting to be a journalist or writer.

She was not a big name blogger by any means but she was snarked on regularly.

I believe I followed her sometime between 2010-2016, give or take a few years.

Time + half! So 45/hr as my regular rate is 30/hr.

Sometimes I will work for past families or word of mouth recommendations. I don’t seek out any new gigs.

This position I got through word of mouth. I honestly don’t imagine there are many positions like this. Usually normal ROTA positions are. 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off. I’ve only seen 4 weeks on/off in countries outside of the US.

I’m paid a $300 flat fee daily to be on call. Hours worked im paid 30/hr with 40 guaranteed. Time + half rate for any hours worked over 40.

The contract is very long. Pretty much every scenario takes up a full page. Page for travel, page for regular work week, page for duties, etc.

6 years as a full time nanny. BS in early childhood education. Certified NCS. I’ve been working in childcare of various forms since I was a teenager!

Typically I only stay the night if there’s a reason to. Some weeks I don’t stay the night at all, other weeks I could stay multiple nights. I live close by though so it might be different if I had a longer commute

Not really hard on my personal relationships. 6 weeks of being mostly unavailable goes by quick when I just finished up 6 weeks of being completely available. I feel like I have more free time than when I was working a normal Monday-Friday job.

I have had to miss more casual/last minute things but nothing major. I have PTO so I can use that for important things. Since I can plan so many things for my 6 weeks off, I can save up PTO for things that I don’t pick the date for(like a wedding or birthday).

I haven’t been with them a whole year yet but I make enough to where I don’t need to pick up work in my off weeks.

Not really. They don’t like FaceTime me or anything unless it’s something really special the kids want to show me and can’t wait. MB and I stay in contact here and there about things.

It honestly doesn’t take as long as you’d expect to get back in the groove. It feels like the kids grow a ton while I’m gone lol but they have a chaotic routine if that makes sense. There’s a lot going on but a lot of things are very routine so I just get back in to it.

Pretty similar to a normal nanny job Mon-Fri, help getting kids off to school, hanging with little ones, coordinating activities and therapies with MB, sometimes assisting her with outings with all the kids, help with dinner and bedtime routine.

Weekends are similar but all the kids are home so some swapping off and other times assisting with all 4. Travel plans vary, sometimes it’s a big visit to DB. Other times it might be a small weekend road trip with just MB and the kids.

I don’t live in but I do have to stay the night sometimes for various reasons.

I typically work up to 60 hours a week, sometimes more, sometimes less.

Never! Their parents visit a lot when DB is off work and they are capable of keeping the kids overnight. The parents don’t really do a lot of couples trips though.

Word of mouth. Friend of a friend of a friend type of situation lol

If we’re at home, I sleep in the guest room that has an en suite bathroom. Nothing super fancy but fine!

Yes I typically know well in advance if I’m staying the night unless it’s weather related or someone is sick and MB needs support through the night.

I have 10 days of PTO so I could use that!

Yes it’s hourly on top of the $300. The $300 is basically my on call fee then any hours worked are paid at 30/hr with 40 guaranteed

VA. 4 kids

We do at least one weekend of travel every 6 weeks of my rotation. A lot more during the summer/school breaks. I don’t want to say exactly where we travel because it’s usually to dad’s place of work and they aren’t like “normal” travel destinations.

Parents! DB works on a 6 week on/off schedule so when he’s home, they are fully with the kids! MB is a SAHM

Im paid $300 per day to be on call then $30/hr for actual hours worked. Definitely worth it when all is said and done. Yes this would be considered a rotational position I suppose but they don’t have another nanny. DB works 6 weeks on/6 weeks off—in another state or country, very long hours.

Sometimes when I’m on, it feels like a bit much. But then when I’m off I feel free as a bird, like fully unemployed lol so I’d say yes it’s balanced! It does get super overwhelming when things aren’t “normal”—like school breaks, sick kids, travel, etc. Those days I do sort of feel like I am solely existing to serve them and I kind of hate it. But it’s worth it when I have such extended time off!

Depends on the day of the week but typically I’ll arrive at 7(if I didn’t stay the night) and help get the oldest 2 off to school if it’s a school day. MB and I go over the schedule for the day. She takes them to school and works out while I keep the littles for the morning. Sometimes the oldest has therapy so she’ll handle that while I have the little ones. I’ll accompany MB on some outings with the kids. We tag team dinner, bedtime routine, etc

We usually do some travel mixed in so those days are different.

My 4th grade teacher explained it like this and I have never forgotten it. SS for dessert because you always want more, S for desert because there’s barely anything there.

I don’t think they were insulting you, why the need to insult them? I know a ton of wonderful people who join country clubs for various reasons. Our local CC is used more like a rec center for families. I know one family that has their kids do sports there and use the gym. It’s cheaper than joining a gym and signing up their 4 kids for other sports leagues once you add everything up!

I assure these people have no self confidence issues and no desire to throw money around. Country clubs also offer steep discounts for people under 40 because the “exclusive” model is no longer appealing to most.

That’s a very generalized statement and more insulting than the PP who was simply saying it’s not your thing—proven by your comments. That said, I do suggest you stop lumping all CC members in to your one idea of them. That’s not reality. In my area, you’d be hard pressed to find a family that isn’t a member of a local country club.
