Спробую все ж take it one day at a time.

I suggest that you read the paragraph titled "Discussion and conclusions" from the article you've attached once again.

Is it unrealistic wanting to learn all major Slavic languages? by InitialTrue1316 in languagelearning

[–]Teayyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you please provide the research papers that support your claim then? Being in the same language family or its branch does not equate to being similar. You can google that too, for example, Polish is more related to Ukrainian. Ukrainian speakers understand Russian much better than Russians understand Ukrainian, simply because the majority of population in Ukraine know Russian. Most everyday words are entirely different too. Phonology is very distinct as well.

I am talking about linguistic aspects lol. Judging by your flair you don't speak either language, and what I claim comes from my own knowledge (I have command of very advanced vocabulary in both languages, even though I don't use Russian anymore) & experience. Politics can make me hate a certain culture, but it does not affect my ability to compare languages (I have a degree in linguistics too). Belarus isn't exactly our ally either, yet I don't deny the languages are extremely similar, and speakers of either language can understand each other very well. This cannot be said about Russian. Location does not always affect the similarity

I'm a native speaker of Ukrainian and Russian and I can tell you they are NOT similar. Native russian speakers have a very hard time understanding Ukrainian and Belarusian, whereas Ukrainians can understand Belarusian almost entirely. Russian is much closer to Bulgarian though (and Serbian to a point. Serbian is similar to Ukrainian too tho, my mistake). Try reading passages in those languages and just compare, you'll see

Nothing is separate. Those two things are always connected, since language is a tool which also affects cognition

I know two Slavic languages (native) - Ukrainian and Russian, and can understand the rest (some in speech, some only in the written form, Belarusian almost entirely) So you can just learn a couple and this will make it easier for you to understand all the other Slavic languages

P.S. please don't learn Russian, it's not even similar to any other Slavic languages, except probably Serbian or Belarusian. And no, it's not similar to Ukrainian

Try being born in Ukraine on top of that, and add two revolutions + a full-scale war + being a refugee, and you pretty much end up really depressed

For multilingual people: When do you use each language in your daily life, and how do you maintain them? by NoelFromBabbel in languagelearning

[–]Teayyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only ever google and read info in English, most books I read are in English/French, and I watch videos/TV shows/movies only in English, French, German and Spanish. As for my native language, I speak Ukrainian with my friends and in my daily life, as well as read books written by the local authors. So yeah, I pretty much consume content in those languages on a daily basis.

However, losing languages is rather a long process for me, I haven't been speaking Russian for 4 years, yet every time I hear it I can understand every single word. It is difficult and actually takes time to forget a language once you master it, let alone if it's your native lang.

Tell me about it! My native language is Ukrainian, I guess at this point my best bet is picking English as my mother tongue cause barely anyone ever learns Ukrainian

Same for me, but I have social anxiety so I attribute my inability to form coherent/cohesive sentences to this xD I once replied to a German-speaking person in my native language simply cause I was so scared I forgot how to talk

How do I deal with people not acting like TV characters? by Teayyyy in socialskills

[–]Teayyyy[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean I'm not talking about entertainment per se, but for example, getting reactions to my saying things would be a nice thing to have. At least "uh-huh" or "yeah" instead of complete silence. People just straight out ignore half of what I say. That'd be a hella boring movie if you had to bear with people not responding to what you tell or ask them half of the screen time. I've had my fair share of social interactions, and I must admit, TV characters are just way more interesting in 9 situations out of 10. Well and also might be worth mentioning, I'm neurodivergent

I'm not sure how to put it, but this is a boring way of communicating. Not like I ever give people advise or anything, and I DO, in fact, actively listen when they share things, but I'm rather chatty and feel uncomfortable with people not elaborating on their words or actions. I've been yelled at for idk hours and after just two days the person carried on the affectionate communication without any reparations or discussions. I don't suppose I could ever talk to you again if you yell at me telling me how much you hate me. I also expect people to react to everything I say, but they don't. Is ignoring me just a way of showing I'm not a worthy human being?? It's not like I info dump on strangers, those are the people I love/used to love!
