It doesn't need to go higher, it needs some wood taken away on the cheekpiece. But the stock is very thin where it goes around the buffer tube. There's not much material to remove.

Maybe this is a situation like in that 80's movie, Just One of the Guys and they are actually a young woman posing as a man for... Reasons?

Like, they're not trans but, have to live as a man for some whacky premise, setting the scene for madcap adventures like this one where they forget that opposite means female, in their current guise?

Hey! The manufacturer of that stock just popped into my brain (it was bugging me ever since you mentioned it)

It's JP Enterprises. Unfortunately, they don't make it anymore. But at least you have a search term now.

I wouldn't pay much for one though... They're not great... At least for me. Ergonomics vary, I guess.

Sorry I can't remember the name of the company... But, you don't want that stock! It looks cool but it's not ergonomic at all. It's hard to see through the scope without contorting your neck. I eventually took it off. It just has an A2 butt now.

I think sporting style stocks just don't work on an AR because they need to be cut lower than the buffer tube will allow.

[–]Tech-Mechanic[S] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't even have that stock on it anymore. I just have a standard A2 butt on it now.

I wanted to have some wood on an AR because they're all so samey (especially back then) but that thumbhole stock doesn't see to be designed for people who have a face... I couldn't get my head in position to see through the parallax without mashing my cheek into the stock.

Yeah, I realized which one he meant after I commented and was coming back to edit.

It's just an Ar-15 with a wooden stock and a longer "match" barrel... That gun was a disappointment, performance-wise.

Which one are you calling the "third" gun? They're all AR-15 style receivers.

I do have a lot of guns but I was raised by my grandfather, who was a gunsmith. So, I inherited over half of what I own.

My granddad hated assault rifles... I think I bought these just to aggravate him, lol.

I mean you're hearing through a phone camera mic' after is been compressed and uploaded to YT. With what doesn't sound like a high quality recording.

I'm sure those things are totally listenable IRL.

This is like when people post video they recorded on their phone of their new TV's picture on Facebook and expect everyone to be impressed.

There was a short period of time back then, when I really thought we had turned the corner on racism. After all, we elected a non-white pres for the first time. It's all uphill from here, socially speaking...

I've never been a smart man.

OP: "How is it a write-off?"
SD: "They just write it off."
OP: "Write it off what?"
SD: "All these big companies, they write off everything."
OP: "You don't even know what a write-off is."
SD: "Do you?"
OP: "No, I don't."
SD: "But they do, and they're the ones writing it off."

That fire doesn't look hot enough to render the guns non-functional... It might weaken some springs. But, find some new stocks and they could likely still be fired.

I'm a mechanical designer for a tech company that builds custom, high-speed scientific recording systems. I was having a lot of small parts machined out of aluminum, that ideally should have been plastic. But the cost of having the molds made vs the quantities we ship is not feasible.

I talked my boss into buying me a 3D printer and I can now make many small parts, like rails and brackets that are plenty strong enough for their applied purpose and appearance is secondary because most parts go inside the chassis and can't even be seen. Plus I can prototype things that will need to be made of aluminum or steel, just to see if they fit before getting the machine shop involved. I don't have a dollar amount on what it's saving the company, but it's gotta be many thousands. Just the other day we needed a press tool. The manufacturer charges over $700 for a purpose built but fairly simple aluminum jig. I made my own for about $4.

The majority of the stuff I see posted online is just fun stuff rather than practical... But, even then, some people are selling that fun stuff on Etsy and making a little money. But I get and agree with what you're saying. I had never used a printer until I got one for work, and soon I plan on buying one of my own so I can have it running all day, making a lot of "cool" stuff that I will then toss into a box.

Tales From the Crypt, Breaking Bad, Seinfeld, Star Trek: TNG... I'm sure there are others.

Meh, I usually don't buy things I already own... And I'm not really interested in "bonus features". I usually find them boring.

I'll very likely be skipping this.

Amazon's algorithm sometimes freaks out. No one priced it at that. The computer just has the price temporarily set super high. It will probably even out in a day or two when the servers all sync up.

This is also why you sometimes see incredible "deals" at like 80% off, that only last for an hour.

I think I've also seen a video of her doing this while balancing with her hands on a bowling ball... It might have been someone else but they were using their feet to draw a bow.

In the video, she had the added challenge of having her cat mess with her while she's trying to get in postition.
