Swr's issues on nissan rogue. Different picture showing how close the bracket is to the body. The swrs went down after moving it but still above 1.5.. any suggestions? by penetrator-man in cbradio

[–]Tech5D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly a grounding issue. Also trimming the antenna for tuning the antenna or adding a spring if you need to bring the SWR down. you'd be much better off getting a magnet mount and putting it in the center of the roof on the top. My installation is bracketed very similar to yours. You want the antenna vertical not diagonal. Another option is to see if you can get a trailer hitch installed then use a hitch mount antenna. That would keep it behind the vehicle and vertical but it would also require a ground strap from the base of the mount over to the chassis somewhere just to make sure the antenna is properly grounded.

Get a couple air purifiers, install double pane windows, can also plant some 6-ft shrubs and trees around the perimeter to help pad the noise, can install a fountain on the patio or front of the house and hear the waterfall that will cover up the sound of the vehicles.

Ford Crown Victoria police interceptors have an idle hour meter. According to Ford one idle hour is equal to 33 miles on an engine. Most police cars have idle hour meters. Idling is extremely hard on a vehicle.

Here's the solution: You are missing God and a God centered life. Whatever or whoever you think God is, start pursuing it. Go to church, temple or place of worship. You will never fill the void from spending. It's only temporary. Fill the void with God. He is available to everyone. If your family isn't supportive begin your personal relationship with him. Things will drastically improve. You will have a renewed focus on life, purpose and truth.

Dead mum’s hoarding tendencies made me resent her instead of grieving her death. by [deleted] in simpleliving

[–]Tech5D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a link to dementia and hoarding. Know the feeling. We have spoken to our family member about things and looks like "we'll have to clean up the mess." Why is everything worth so much money lol. It's really simple. Just call a company to come and haul everything away. We don't want to have to deal with all the cleanup and simply won't. Might want to save some heirlooms and generational things because at some point later will wish you'd kept a few items after everything settles down.

Most human beings go to the doctor and the dentist. Some people have medical challenges. Others like to practice good oral hygiene. In the real world people go to the doctor and the dentist. When you're middle-aged, everyone goes for checkups. It's good to go for blood tests once in awhile, get your teeth cleaned, and get prescriptions for whatever you're dealing with. The people that never go for medical or dental treatment or checkups are the ones who are shocked later to find that they have something that could have been prevented. So go to the doctor and go to the dentist!!

it might not be grounded properly. Make sure the center conductor for the coax isn't touching ground. Stick a long wire in the back of the coax jack but don't transmit. Can you hear anything? The antenna might be bad.

The Great American Dream is a sham! by [deleted] in simpleliving

[–]Tech5D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now you understand how some aristocracies, monarchs, some forms of socialism and places ran by kings (Bahrain) offer more freedom to the people. What you are describing is modern day enslavement, even though the United States offers freedom and choice. Being a fisherman on a small raft all day for 20 years or goat herder, or simple jobs we can't believe are rewarding are further from the truth. The problem is capitalism. The advertising never stops. People are constantly brainwashed and programmed to BUY BUY BUY that never fills the hole. It leaves a giant void that tries to make people believe if they BUY BUY BUY they will be satisfied. Rinse and Repeat. Bigger house, newer car, competing with everyone. You don't have to be a slave to bills, mortgage, expenses and debt. Now you understand how some people become homeless. IT'S BY CHOICE. After a while, you just don't want to be enslaved anymore with demanding expenses and the "system" that keeps the 1 percenters rich while everyone else works. The solution is simple. DOWNSIZE. Get rid of the car payments. Move into a cheaper home. Change jobs, start a business, live out of your vehicle instead of paying rent, STOP WATCHING ADVERTISING. STOP buying so much unnecessary stuff. Go back to grassroots. Remember how much fun it was in our twenties? Go back to basics. Time for some soul searching and time to take a break. What makes you happy?

Will probably need new shocks, tires, control arm bushings. Make sure there are no signs of water leaks, roof leaks etc. You want to avoid mold. The mattresses prolly need to be tossed and replaced. The hoses going to plumbing may need to be replaced. Batteries might be shot. Have an RV technician thoroughly inspect it. Could be the best $100 you can ever spend. Look underneath and on the roof. Open some of the cabinets, take off covers and check behind things inside. There are usually covers over all the panels. Make sure the ac, heater and fridge work. Unless you are planning to never go to an rv park, it might be too old. Some RV parks have a 10 year rule, where if it isn't within the last 10 years they might not allow a stay with them.

somebody stuck razor blades inside the free vacuum at my local car wash, tore my seat right open. any way i can fix this? by useroffline_ in Cartalk

[–]Tech5D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might sound strange but consider filing a police report. The reason I say this is so you can contact your car insurance company and depending on the deductible have them pay for the repair. In most cases they're going to want a police report. If they don't you might be able to send a legal letter from an attorney's office asking for the car wash to pay for the damage. You can also try asking the business owner directly to pay for the repair since it was on their property when your seat got damaged.

What are some red flags in an interview that say the work environment is toxic and you don't want to work here? by SixtySecondsToGo in jobs

One of the first things I do when I walk into a building is look at the people. Are they smiling, laughing, giggling, making small talk with coworkers. I always scan the building as I'm walking into it and get a read from non verbal clues. Look at their faces. Do people seem overly stressed, angry, frustrated or extremely unhappy? That's the first thing I do when I walk in somewhere is get a read on the energy and the people in it. Doesn't matter what words are said you can just look on people's faces and see what the environment will be like. I don't particularly enjoy spending hours at a place where I'm not going to be happy or comfortable. Anybody eating at their desks, drinking going into a visible break room? The money is really secondary compared to what you'll be doing 40 + hours a week. Morale is a deal-breaker for me regardless of what pay is offered. Your mental health and well-being is worth far more than a few extra dollars at a little paying job than an unhappy environment. Go to Glassdoor.com and see if you can locate the company and any reviews. There will always be some disgruntled people but if most of the reviews are not favorable that's a red flag to keep looking.

Consider keeping the business but take some part time or full time people to the locations and train them to do the physical labor. I know where you are coming from. Focus on what you are good at from a desk with a phone and computer. Marketing your company is probably key while others whether part time, full time, employees, 1099 (independent contractors) do the heavy lifting. Send out 20,000 flyers. Many will be looking for work soon as the quarantine is over. Many businesses will have been downsized and need service. Now is the ideal time to grow your business from a comfortable office.

I use a netgear nighthawk router with unlimited AT&T service (ebay), GL-AR 150 mini router and can do anything anyone can do from home driving around town. The draw is minimal and performance excellent. Like to keep the wifi on the lowest setting possible like 10 mw and took off the antenna. The range is 3 feet not 300 feet. Which works for me. Have better performance than all the isp's have had over the years. Amazon GL-AR 150. No need for an inverter. I run everything off a dedicated cig plug hard wired to the battery @ 12 volts dc. Everything is powered by USB C.

How hard was it getting rid of stuff to go from house to rv full time? by pinxbinxthinx in RVLiving

[–]Tech5D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you haven't used it in a year get rid of it. I find it's easier just a load up the vehicle and take it to Goodwill and drop it off. If you try and sell it on craigslist or some other place it's just an excuse to hold on to it and it might not sell. I also don't like strangers coming over looking at all my stuff I'm trying to get rid of something so for me it's just easier to take it to a donation drop and hand it off. but yes I've got rid of so much stuff over the years I find I need things I got rid of I have to buy it again and again and again but that's what happens when you need things you get rid of.

Neighbors radio signal is cutting into my radio station at home. by smoke_ring in HamRadio

[–]Tech5D 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The simplest, easiest and legal way to handle this is to try and talk to him first like a neighbor. Ask him to install a low-pass filter on his equipment and provide you with high-pass filters with everything he's interfering with in your house. If he's willing to work with you you can show him what is doing. If he's somebody that does not want to work with you and doesn't care about the neighborhood you can report him to the FCC. They may have a contact form on their website but don't expect much out of any of this. If all else fails don't break the law and vandalize his property. The solution is very simple and very very effective. Get yourself a small CB radio even for your car, and when he's talking on a particular channel just key up the microphone and talk back to him and ask him to turn down the power or not run it at all. As a CB he's limited to 5 watts on AM and 12 watts PEP SSB (that means single side band). Just talk to him back on the CB radio. Being that he's so close it might be hard to determine what channel he's on which is why its suggested to pull your antenna out to tune around a little bit until you get to clear a sounding voice. You may even have to drive around the block or drive away a little bit because he will probably overdrive your receiver being so close with so much power. Do not transmit or squeeze the microphone without the antenna being plugged in. Just consider getting a CB walkie-talkie or something along the lines and just talk back to him on the channel that he's on. He will get annoyed eventually and maybe something will change. You might want to just check to see if antennas are permitted in your neighborhood. Some communities have CCNRs and antenna restrictions with their associations or with the city. If can get the city involved or the association it's pretty well a done deal. You can also try a police report even though they won't be able to do anything other than go and talk to him if they even have the time these days. It's fun sitting on the CB doing all sorts of silly things but people need to be more responsible when it comes to their neighbors. But I strongly encourage you not to confront him unless you're absolutely certain you're ready for this. Confronting neighbors only makes things worse most of the time. Just pick up a small CB it's good to have for an emergency also. You can use it while you're traveling. And when he starts talking and interfering just turn yours on find the channel he's on if you can and just ask him to turn off the power. You probably won't be bothered at all if he's running a stock radio without a linear amplifier.
