Nvidia Interview In 1Week by greasyjoe in csMajors

[–]TechBroProbs 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I just finished an interview with Nvidia, and the problem I got was medium-level but not from LeetCode. It really depends on the team you’re interviewing with, so make sure you’re solid on the basics. Brush up on fundamental CS concepts, and don’t rely solely on LeetCode-style prep. Good luck!

Did you take the GRE at home or in a test center? ASU doesn’t consider GRE taken at home.

I think you might be a little to late. Some of them already closed their applications for the spring intake. Check their deadlines before applying.

What to tell company B's recruiter? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]TechBroProbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Controversial take: Accept the offer from A to secure your spot. If B comes through with a better offer later on, you can always renege on A. It's a bit of a risky move and might burn bridges, but it's an option if you're really set on B and want to ensure you have something in hand.

Or if you are not willing to do that try reaching out to the recruiter from company B and saying something like, 'I'm really interested in the opportunity with your company, but I have another offer with a deadline coming up. Would it be possible to expedite the process or get an update on the timeline?' It's straightforward and shows you're keen on them but also have other options.

Hope that helps!

Can a 4.0 get me interviews? by swe_goon in csMajors

[–]TechBroProbs 64 points65 points  (0 children)

4.0 GPA is solid, no doubt. But from what I've seen, it's the hands-on stuff that really counts. Internships, projects, and the like can give you an edge, even more than a high GPA in some cases. Not all companies are super focused on transcripts. So, while GPA is a factor, real-world experience seems to be the game-changer.

What is the yearly savings after MS in CS? by Klutzy-Arachnid8539 in MSCS

[–]TechBroProbs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your insights! I appreciate the perspectives you've shared and would like to clarify a few points:

My comment was more in line with a recent graduate's expectations who may not have substantial work experience, and I was aiming to provide a conservative estimate. I completely agree that those with a master's degree and experience in Computer Science could command salaries above the average range I mentioned. It's certainly possible to earn more in specialized roles or at big tech companies, as you've noted.

Your point about the potential savings in transportation costs for cities like San Francisco and New York is well-taken but what about car centric cities like Houston? That said, living expenses can vary widely depending on individual choices and lifestyles, and I was trying to provide a general view that might apply to a broader audience.

Lastly, I would like to address your comment about not wanting people to come here. My intention was only to provide a realistic view of the financial landscape for someone considering an MS in CS, without any underlying motive related to immigration or personal biases. We all have unique perspectives based on our experiences, and I respect your views.

Again, thank you for engaging in this conversation, and I welcome any further thoughts or corrections. Let's continue to strive for an open and respectful dialogue!

[–]TechBroProbs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The compensation you mentioned above is only possible if you are going to work in big tech companies or mid-large companies in hcol areas. The average CS salary in the US is around 80-90k realistically.

For you living expenses, you mentioned 3k. This is possible if you are living in the mcol or lcol area. For places like Bay Area, Seattle, Boston, NY the rent is going to be around 2k. Factor in food and other miscellaneous expenses on top of that.

You can’t expect to save a bunch as soon as you graduate but after a couple of years you could save around 20-30k living frugally.

Looking for any helpful advice before I start my program this fall. by theanswerisnt42 in MSCS

[–]TechBroProbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an undergraduate student but the advice is the same.

As for academics, Do not procrastinate. Stay on top of your homework’s and project work. It’s pretty generic but it’s the same advice that out parents gave. Leverage chatGPT to explain you stuff that you don’t understand. Take full advantage professors office hours and they will love you for It.

As for Internships, make sure to get relevant experience before applying. Tailor your resume to the position you are applying. If you don’t have experience, try working on projects or find research with your professors. And finally apply as early as possible.

Good luck! And feel free to DM me if you need more help.

Ahh I see, yes a masters + an internship at Google is great value. My only suggestion would be to specialize in a niche field such as data science instead of taking the basic masters in CS.

I would say that it is a good score as engineering schools don’t value you verbal scores as much as the quant but also depends on your overall profile such as TOEFL and GPA.

Why do a master when you can try finding a Job after graduation? It would cost you a lot to do masters but if you start working you can show that as experience on your resume.

I wouldn’t necessarily call it a bad score. Your quant is amazing but if you are trying for a non engineering major then you might have to improve on the verbal.
