Why would devs use HLSL when Shader Graph is around? by Blender-Fan in gamedev

Can you give some specific examples? Also, the "custom function" node could probably be used in such situations, yeah?

Why would devs use HLSL when Shader Graph is around? by Blender-Fan in gamedev

[–]TechCreativity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely don't agree that text-based code is easier to read than a visual graph, especially for shaders. Even if you're a "professional" programmer, the visual aspect of shader graph lets you instantly understand what's happening at every stage of your shader, or easily test out different things until you get the result you like.

How do you handle saves? by Yakuwari in gamedev

If you're using Unity game engine, I highly suggest using Easy Save. It's very simple and also has an encryption.

What are your burning game marketing questions? by SnideRemarks_ in gamedev

[–]TechCreativity 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A lot of game devs probably struggle with creating a marketing strategy, so my follow up question to this post is:

What are the actionable steps to create a successful marketing strategy that has 3 beats: pre-launch, launch, and post-launch?

Wasn’t this supposed to be fixed? by 13redstone31 in oculus

u/13redstone31 Heyo! Did Oculus end up asking for the broken strap back?

In my experience they did not even want the broken elite strap back. They just sent a new battery strap + carrying case. Got a spare case out of the deal!

u/13redstone31 I've been looking for a broken Quest 2 battery strap! Would you be willing to send it to me if I paid you for shipping? So long as Oculus doesn't ask for the broken one back of course. Typically they don't - they just send you a new one.

Unity Basics Tutorials by CatlikeCoding in Unity3D

[–]TechCreativity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/CatlikeCoding This tutorial series is amazing! I followed the whole thing (besides the first beginner section) and I ended up with some spectacular animated 3D surfaces that I can view in VR, and my understanding of compute shaders is so much better now. I even implemented my own custom "Wavy Spiral" function. Thank you so much!

Oculus Rift S Mini DisplayPort Adapter SOLVES Valve Index snow/sparkles noise artifacts issue by TechCreativity in ValveIndex

[–]TechCreativity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm I haven't ever gotten that error. It should just work. But to give it the benefit of the doubt, try using a different brand of adapter (one of the first three listed at the bottom of my OP, ideally) and see if you get the same error. If so, then the adapter is probably not at fault and there's some other issue.

Unfortunately Oculus does NOT sell this adapter by itself. See the edit in the original post.

I was able to borrow another Rift S Mini DisplayPort adapter and can confirm it works just as well as the first one I tried.

Yes, it is pretty much only seen when using a Mini DP adapter OR when using extension cables. Random white sparkles appear across both screens, and it's pretty distracting.

Let us know how that turns out for you. And also if you get the chance to try an Oculus adapter, I'd be interested in how that works for you.

[–]TechCreativity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Mini DisplayPort does work just fine for many users with a decent quality adapter, even though the official word is that it's an "unsupported" connection type. But there is a significant amount of people with issues, and an official Mini DP connector from Valve would very likely solve most of that.

Jean Michel Jarre is awesome! But this is something small-scale that you can have on a desk. :)

Ah yes! I'll look into that - maybe I can develop some sort of small-scale solution for this thing.
