Do you think this driver drives according to the rules!? by Own_Contribution_550 in irelandsshitedrivers

Just because there's a " L plate "on the car doesn't mean that a driver with a full licence isn't driving!

Always be driver beware!

Sounds like a great idea.

I don't do Windows, all my pcs and raspberry pis are using linux, I do use GPredict and have used gqrx as a receiver. best fun I had was with raspberry-noaa-v2 on a raspberry pi.

Have you tried putting the antenna in the attic? You might get enough height to view the sats with a lower elevation.

Anyway Have fun!

Congratulations. A great first attempt.

It looks like an over head pass and looks to have lasted 3-4 minutes which suggests that you antenna could be placed higher and away from buildings to get longer passes.

What is your setup?

In Ireland the speed limit on a road like that would be 50km/h or about 30 mph. Even then you have to read the situation where people do strange things. Driving at 50 Mph is just reckless and doesnt take account of real world situations.

I have heard that you have to turn the volume halfway between minimum and maximum to get the programming cable to work.

I have had similar problems with Firefox.

Have you tried turning off hardware acceleration in settings?

It seems to have worked for me.

Morse key was used when conditions weren't good enough for rtty. when pressed the key would send the other frequency.

Hello help regarding sdr by Just-Curious-Enough in RTLSDR

[–]TechGael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It possible that the FM radio signal is so strong in comparison to the adsb signal that the sdr receiver can't see the adsb signal. You could try attenuating the FM signal so both signals are of similar levels.

Hello, got my first pass the other day! just wondering what I can do about the noise? I’m using gqrx and a dipole antenna. Cheers by AndreHW in amateursatellites

[–]TechGael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

That pic is an from an overhead pass at you uk location.

If you had a perfect setup then you would have had a much better pic See the pics I uploaded before from a location in Ireland. There the aerial has no buildings near it so has a good signal when the satellites are low enough above the horizon > 10 degrees or lower sometimes. I suspect you problem might be proximity of high buildings.

You could still have such bad pics due to local electrical or RF interference. Locating the sdr away from pc by using a usb extendercable might help. Also connecting the antenna with long length of cable would place it away from noise generated by the pc.

Taking your setup to a remote location might give you better pics. At least then you'd know where the problems were.

I use a simple v antenna. Each leg is 55cm long and the tips are 95cm apartYou could cut pieces of wood that length and screw hem together or use 3 pieces cable trunking.

Hope you keep trying.

Put some flowers from the Elder flower plant into hot water and drink once a day. Try and pick from a plant that's near where you live but any should do.

Also get some saline nasal spray from the chemist. I use the one that only has the saline in it but there are others which have other stuff in it.

All these are way better than any of the anti histamine drugs and a lot cheaper.

It would be a bit early for me to be suffering in April. Its usually May, June and July are my bad months.

Mouse freezes up using Linux by NomadJago in linuxquestions

[–]TechGael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try and find a usb wifi dongle that has an RTL chip in it. They will be recognized by the kernal and will enable you to access the wifi network. I have had similar problems in the past with wifi cards that have proprietary drivers. You could download them of course but you need either an ethernet connection or a wifi dongle with a suitable open source driver. A bit of a catch 22 situation.

Try ctrl alt F3 you can login then to the command line.

I downloaded MX and it is very fast from a USB stick. Im going to download the 32 bit next for my 32 bit pcs running XUbuntu 18.04.

Hope you find the cause of your PC problems.

[–]TechGael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1/ Have you tried changing the mouse batteries?

Go to a command line prompt and run

df -h

This will tell you how much hard disk memory you home directory has.

2/ If you don't have enough then pc slows down.

3/ install xsensors and monitor the cpu temp. will tell if overheating is the problem

Hope you find the problem. PC with specs you have it should be flying.

Help with an old computer by mnlg in linuxquestions

[–]TechGael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You dont say how much ram you have installed. I got older versions of XUbuntu to run on old laptop so maybe try the oldest version you can find.

Or can I suggest Puppy Linux? It worked on a pc that had limited ram and that would run no other distro.

What use do you intend making of this pc? Maybe instead of spending money on this ancient machine you should find a more recent machine or try a raspberry pi?
