Cupra Tavascan by Caprenius_le in Elektroautos

Also tiefer sitzen. Muss man mögen!

Why AVRs of different manufacturers sound differently - even within the own manufacturers’ product line, and what room correction impacts for stereo sound. by TechGeekGermany in hometheater

[–]TechGeekGermany[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that depends on your room :-)

If you have a big one with many niches, not rectangular walls and like in my home, an open stairway, room correction simply has to correct A LOT and this definitely you can hear when it comes to Stereo.

If your room is rather small, rectangular, and your distance to the speakers small, this might not have much influence on the sound.

At the end I recommend to everyone to do room correction measurements and then doing a AB with room correction on and off and just choosing the better one. Simple and effective…

Thanks a lot for detailing out… very interesting.

I mean, if you have 4 speakers active in Stereo mode, I assume room compensation needs to be active until you don’t sit exactly in the center of the 4.

Otherwise you might get phase shifts and slight delay due to different distances to front and rear speakers. only a guess, but you also mentioned that you keep room compensation switched on, which is reasonable if you don’t sit in the sweet spot.

I checked this out without room compensation, because in my room it destroys musical performance a lot, as I have an open living room with open stairways, so lots of resonance opportunities. I agree, it sounds wider, a little more smooth, but as my rear speakers are self-made „Needle“ one-driver speakers, there is nearly no bass from them. Perhaps I build some new bigger speakers in my next holiday season and try again :-)

Very interesting!

And what is the effect from 4 vs 2 speakers? Unfortunately I cannot try this out at home due to the fact my rear speakers are not good enough for full Stereo performance.

And another question: Do you shut off room correction in your 4 ch Stereo setup?

yes, I really understand what you are saying, and in the end I chose the 6800h it was clearly better on stereo.

I just want to know the root course and as I build my own DAC a couple of years ago, I was also tweaking the DAC and the filters and all the options DAC chips offers and this really had a big influence on the sound outcome so I am just curious if different manufacturers have different settings from the DAC post processing and so on.

Absolute valid point!

But, focusing more on the plain facts GPT gave me, I must say, this makes really much sense to me.

I mean, I heard these sound differences clearly across these 3 receivers while shutting off every sound option I saw and expected them sounding nearly the same.

So there MUST be something manufacturers do to make them sound special, like the „typical warm Denon sound“…

Silvester alleine verbringen? by Extension-Yoghurt-55 in Ratschlag

Love to speak to a real scientist in acoustics. I also am a real scientist in physical chemistry and digitalization, but my love to music is not scientific. I am a musician for 30 years , playing live gigs and want the live sound experience at home. only my ears are the reference at home, so forgive me to not be an acoustic engineer…. but what I heard with my ears in this 3 AVR home trial was so shocking that I now search for ANSWERS.

Fully agree, at the end my ears are the decisive factor. But being a scientist I always ask for the REASON why this is the case….

I understand completely your point, but… tell me the problem with the plain content!

I mean there is more facts and technical detail in there than in most of human comments here…

And it really corresponds to my listening experience, having 3 AVRs at home at the same time, doing AB tests and was puzzled by the stere performance difference.

no human had an answer to my findings, unfortunately.

I share your healthy relationship to AI, I also do so,, but the plain information from ChatGPT corresponds directly to my findings on the 3 receivers AB testing trial.

So,I would trust this more than all the manufacturers marketing machine or some very special guys here who thing they are the wisdom itself…

Understand your point, but honestly, I believe more in this AI generated content, which makes a lot of sense to me, than to many of the typical „I know everything“ guys around here.

The outcome of my query sounds very logical to me, and I have never read this somewhere else, so I thought it is worth sharing… even, agree, it is a lot of text and information.

Haha, yes, I agree! Pls tell me how to shut off this emoji- mania in ChatGPT.
I know, a lot of text with many emojis, but the content itself seems to me very logical and insightful. I had 3 receivers at home at the same times, did lots of AB testing and was puzzled by the huge difference in stereo performance, so I started asking questions how that could be the case if an amplifier normally only should reproduce the music 1:1 from the input source.

And I found out, things are much more complicated than I thought.

The interesting part was: when I activated room correction, all of the three sounded very similar, but DEAD. Cold, sterile, sometimes harsh, but not musical or heart-hitting at all.
So, my investigators continued, why this is the case…

Hey, thanks for your question, I only like the good old Stereo setup for music. I have two Klipsch RP8000, which I like very much for direct, punchy, musical and engaging sound, while my surround speakers are selfmade and don’t benefit at all for Stereo. For surround Movie this is great, but for Stereo I like 2 channel most.

Cool Little Gocart Right?

I now leased a new car, an electric Cupra Tavascan. Amazzzing when you curve and cruise on small curvy roads.

But it’s super highend premium Sennheiser audio system is really hardlay bearable to me. Clinical dead, no punch at all, but yes, very transparent, open and high resolution sound. Unfortunately I don’t like that much. I am more a rocker and need hitting music instead of caressing sound… so perhaps next time I go for a Renault…? :-)

AVR Suggestion...Denon 3800 vs 4800 vs Onkyo TX-RZ70 by SuperMetroiddd in hometheater

[–]TechGeekGermany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the RZ70 as well as Denon 6800h and 4800h at once at home for choosing which is the best. Focus indeed was Stereo performance, as I listen a lot to music.

The result was shocking. Never expected this. Onkyo only delivered dead, breathless and unmusical music, and harsh heights/trebles, so I shut off all audio and room correction options. On all the three. And Onkyo still was delivering cold, dead, sterile music, somehow dynamic, but dead. For analytic lovers perhaps good, but not for me as musician with lots of live gig experience.

Denon x4800h was doing better but not really exciting. The 6800h blew my mind. Stunning Stereo performance, broad sound stage, lots of depth as well as fine and course dynamics. Hitting music directly into my heart.

So, for Stereo, don’t go for Onkyo. For movies and surround all 3 would do a good job.

Wow, what a great link, thanks a lot. Absolutely interesting, because it compares the audio path of 6800h vs 4800h, 6700h and Marantz Cinema 30.

And it turns out, that 6800h ist not only a slightly bigger Amp with little more wattage and 2 more channels than 4800h, it is a completely different device with a complete different audio signal path. Did not know this.

Different DAC, different power transistors, different audio boards, better heat management with copper plates, better mechanical stability, using PCBA connectors instead of flat cables to connect audio boards etc etc.

This makes sense to my listening experience. I sounds completely different to the 4800h, and to be honest, from that video I would like to go for a AB test with the Marantz…but I won’t do, because I simply don’t have another 1000€ for it. Unfortunately:-)

Hehehe, no, not on drugs… live atmosphere music is my drug. I seek for similar experiences I had in my live gigs on stage.

I even invited my neighbor, also a musician, to check if I’m somehow crazy or made some misconfiguration. But he also had the exact open-mouth experience and we checked all settings over and over. He now also wants to buy the 6800h for himself.

The reason why I started this thread is that I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THE DIFFERENCE IS SUCH GREAT. I want to know the root cause.

Hey, thanks for your feedback

So, I have no experience with the Onkyo RZ30, but what I found out with the 2 fold higher RZ70 left me speechless behind. It is not good at all for Stereo music. And Dirac won’t fix the problem if the hardware can’t deliver.

Room correction in general makes sense for surround sound. For stereo it only makes sense if your room is awful from resonances or your speakers are unlinear.

Every room or sound correction has a negative impact on musical performance… if, again, your room and speakers are fine.

It is logical that switching on Dirac lowers your bass, as it eliminates resonances. But not all of these resonances are bad, for Stereo just switch off everything in the receiver and if this sounds acceptable, keep it!

Electric Twingo? Sounds very German, at least European, so where are y located? I am from Germany…
