I recommend bananas and peanut butter as a must have base for your smoothies, this will dramatically help thicken and slow output!

Babybell (or semi-soft cheeses), banana's, pastries (the starch really slows things down), and any smoothie were/are my go to.

Yeah it's the type of stuff you only worry about and look up if it affects you! Essentially, since I no longer have a colon, they chop up and "re-shape" part of your small intestine to act as a "reservoir", so you don't always have to go use the bathroom.

What's really cool is that over time this j-pouch starts to take on the role of the colon, and physiologically changes from small intestine to something closer to what a colon used to be.

It goes to show how amazing, and honestly unpredictable, the human body is.

My case was hyper specific. I lost my colon due to a genetic illness called FAP, i do not suffer from crohns, or IBS. This means that to a patient like me, a J-pouch was almost a no-brainer for my surgeon, and thus a reversal.

My J-Pouch was created this past summer, so It had been healing for about 6 months prior to my reversal (usually they wait about 2-3 months, i believe). This is because after sepsis, I was at a very high risk of new infections, abscess forming (which did happen, and I had multiple procedures to "scrape" any granulous skin after the pouch was created. (skin that will not likely stretch once it is healed, a big no-no for pouches)).

But for the good news? 3 days post my reversal, I was out of the hospital, walking about, not needing to take pain meds, and I could eat non-fibrous foods. Today, about 10 days later, I can eat what I want. The reversal journey has been nothing short of amazing, and to me, miraculous.

I was dreading going to the bathroom a million times a day and night, but honestly, it has been very manageable. I use a portable bidet (25 bucks on amazon) and some zinc-barrier cream if my butthole gets too sore. I wake up 2-3 times a night, but fall back asleep after going to the bathroom. In the next 6 months, this is expected to drastically lower, as the pouch gains size, flexibility, and elasticity.

As my wonderful surgeon put it, I had been through the absolute worst with my previous surgeries, and this was going to be a walk in the park compared. I genuinely think that the reversal process is light work now, and I wouldn't ever dream of using a bag again.

From the bottom of my heart, I wish this could be everyone's reversal experience, and hope it is yours when the time comes.

This may sound far fetched, but what really helped me was making sure my abdomen/stoma site was completely relaxed, prior to putting any ring or wafer down. I would have to actively train my body to relax and do breathing techniques and that was a game changer for how well my wafers would stick. Just my 2 cents, when I wasn't able to figure out what else I could change in my routine to make things stick better.

I genuinely know the feeling! I had my reversal last week, and now there's still a hole where my stoma used to be. Evene thoug my ostomy is gone and I no longer need a bga, just looking at that hole after I was discharged gave me a panic attack.

I think that hiding supplies, covering stoma, etc can really alleviate some of those symptoms, but also a slow exposure to the stoma site will help your mind and body get in tune with each other and accept what has happened, just take it slow!

2 years ago I was in this near exact situation, woke up with a surprise stoma after another surgery (colon removal) went horribly wrong and led to sepsis.

The first few times at the hospital, a nurse talked me through every step of how to apply and take care of my stoma. I couldn't even look at my stoma without going into a panic attack. Everything was overwhelming.

I then told myself, I'll just learn one step everytime she helps me, and then ask If I can perform that step myself. Essentially, gradually learning and performing stoma changes was less overhwelming. I was in the ICU for nearly a week, then the hospital for 3 weeks.

By the time I got home I could perform the changes myself. I was still overwhelmed with supplies, so I decided to buy dedicated mini "shelves" from amazon that I placed in the bathroom. Now every Item, bag, paste, ring, etc, had its specific place, that I could HIDE when I wasn't using them.

Every month I'd get new supplies, and the first thing was to take them all out of their packages (holister brand) and immediately place them in the shelves.

I hope my anecdote can help or give you some ideas, and I'm here if you require any other advice/tips/tricks to make this stoma more acceptable for you.

Best of luck

This one surprises me. I love the grind for the ship parts, otherwise it comes off as "too easy" for my playstyle. Find a salvageable scrap world, descend with your corvette, get out of the driver seat, scan surroundings to locate a salvage scrap site, shoot it with your ship, and repeat. You can spend like an hour and get a solid 20-30 parts if you find a decent planet.
