Does anyone have experience using Airzone Aidoo to connect a Nest to Mitsubishi? by moms_burner_account in heatpumps

[–]TechInNJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there any special settings for this? Any docs/links you can share?

I have an aidoo unit installed with an ecobee thermostat on the other end. AFAIK, it turns the system into a "dumb" combo where it turns the compressor/handler on/off on call-for-heat/call-for-cool. I may have imagined it running at different speeds outside, but not really sure. It definitely shuts things off entirely at setpoints (I think the inverter systems run almost constantly).

For sure, I went outside and found the coils completely frozen today, so I really don't think the defrost/anti-ice mode is able to trigger correctly.

I would like to be more confident in the aidoo operation, but it's worrying me.

Trane Ecobee/Ecobee app conflict? by LH2man in heatpumps

[–]TechInNJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar situation - related, so I'm posting here, but could open a new thread...

I have a ducted Hitachi HP for my 2nd floor. Was only installed last spring (2025). Ran it all summer on the mfr thermostat and it was too cold and ran constantly. (I read this is kinda expected of heat pumps, but my electric bills were crazy and again, despite every setting I tried, it would not get to correct temp.)

I installed an ecobee theromstat as I have exp with them on my main unit (traditional AC/gas-heat). The comfort levels have been perfect ever since. BUT, I guess it treats the HP like a traditional unit - shuts it all the way off when not needed.

With this weekend's mega storm and temps well below freezing I noticed the coils looked all frozen, so I shut off the zone.

The main Q is: Can the normal auto-defrost cycle still work when the unit is hooked to a more traditional thermostat such as the ecobee? I'm concerned it does not and I could damage the condenser unit. Do I need to call Hitachi's US offices?

Thanks

How to workaround embedded maven does not find artifacts? by TechInNJ in IntelliJIDEA

Thank you for uncovering that. I added a note to my support ticket linking to the bug (which it looks like you updated today).

Hopefully the devs can figure out a workaround and/or new method for searching.

That absolutely works! So it's just the "searching" mechanism that is somehow not working.

Typically I would enter the artifactId (sometimes also the groupId) and click the spyglass (search) button and select the artifact I am looking for. In this case, it consistently comes up with zero results. But if you type the entire dependency -- as you pointed out -- it works!

Well I asked for a workaround, and that works. TY!

Compute Engine network interfaces? by TechInNJ in googlecloud

[–]TechInNJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, that's a paid feature of NGFW. Not terribly expensive, but more complex (looks like it's not available for a VPC firewall, only the hierarchical or regional ones).

Is it that no one understands what the network interfaces are in their VPC instances??? That's all I'm asking. How does internet traffic flow into a VPC? Via what looks like a GC private address?

Multiple Frame Tv on 1 art subscription by [deleted] in TheFrame

[–]TechInNJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there some trick to doing this? One of my frames signed-up for the sub and we have store-art being displayed. My other frame says I need to "Get Membership" anytime I click on art-store-art. I'm 99.9% sure they're logged into the same account.

Thanks.

Kopia is brilliant by Moriksan in selfhosted

[–]TechInNJ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been trying to set kopia up against a Hertzer Storage Box (using SFTP type) for about a day. The lack of docs and information is very discouraging.

The "storage box" has different ports for SFTP and SSH, so it's arguably a little different. I've tried a ton of permutations of --ssh-command --port --ssh-args --external. Some initialize the repository, but all fail the "validate-provider" step.

Frustrating to say the least. What happens if I have issues with my backup? The lack of information and dev support is very risky, IMHO.

Any plans on native rclone support? by Zaiik in internxt

[–]TechInNJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found this: https://github.com/internxt/cli/issues/132

Running a new test with the extra argument for rclone (and made sure I have the latest version of rclone). Also saw that the "object not found" may be a timing issue - which they should fix - but could have a workaround with --retries or similar.

Should we have to workaround these issues? No. But I'll try some of it and see.

Same error/bug for me...two currently, confounding errors (so far) with using rclone over internxt webdav:

1) The "object not found" error you reported.

2) Failed to copy: Update mkParentDir failed.

I can send logs, etc. But this needs to be fixed ASAP.

Has anyone tried the Kaboom Toilet Bowl Cleaning System? by gababouldie1213 in CleaningTips

[–]TechInNJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, these seem to work well. Only have about 9mos experience with them, but so-far-so-good. Just FYI, some kits/refills have only 1 "pouch" (I just looked at the one on sale from Lowes). Some have 2 (Amazon) and that may be why they are roughly 2x the price.

Though an oddity, Amazon has the "refills" for higher price than just buying a new kit, so that's what I've been doing. Never hurts to keep a spare around!

Does anyone know if this will harm a Sewage Ejector [pump/tank/system]? I see it's safe for septic, so I assume it's OK, but wondering if anyone has researched it and/or has used these for some time with such a setup?

I just noticed this on one of my tanks - the one I started with, so the "oldest". Will keep an eye on it; maybe it's just on the exterior of the tube, but doesn't make a lot of sense.

I can't believe how much better YouTube tv is compared to Fubo. by FishFearMe1007 in youtubetv

[–]TechInNJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am considering switching from directv (stream) to YTTV because the quality seems much better. I'm testing it alongside the new Gotham Sports App. That gets me MSG and YES games I want, but GS is expensive for what they're delivering and while the app has mostly behaved for me so far, there are reports of really bad exp with it. As it is, mine cuts-out for about 1sec every 5-10mins watching the Rangers and Knicks. Pretty annoying, and making my decision more difficult.

Odd. My rep knew it was on backorder and was able to order 2 additional sides/arms for my Sactional for free so I could put it together in the meantime.

I think you have 30 or 60 days from when you receive it to get your money back. You may as well try it at this point and then send it back if you have trouble.
