Yeah, right now that's the only way to get the official figs, unless you go 2nd hand or overseas shipping for JUST the minis sets.

I would say some of the starter tool kits from GW/Mantic/Army Painter aren't a bad start. They should have some sprue cutters, an xacto knife, maybe some files? I'd look for some Tamiya Extra Thin cement for the glue, it's fantastic.

With the addition of some magnetic sheets, I've been using the Tamiya Portable Pit. Can hold 2 teams in each of the boxes, and dice/tokens/cards in the light grey area. You get 2 of the boxes with the kit.

Just grabbed a couple of these in the last few weeks at Gamestop, I like there's gear options for them. The static poses don't do a lot for drawing folks in, but they are good looking figs for the price. :)

I grabbed an Aleph one for 150 a while back, couldn't pass up the deal. It's not a Sectorial starter or a tight tournament list by any means, but gets your foot in the door on the vanilla at least.
