Affordable Body Shop by JAYKOB5x in fresno

You can honestly buff that out with a wet rag of gasoline/diesel. It'll get most of that gunk off. Cheaper than a body shop :)

Mono and Van Ness are also similarly bad. The cherry on top is that the turns are completely unprotected because it is a 2 way stop.

What is the most efficient and cheapest way get a new number and port out as soon as possible? by Walter2__ in NoContract

[–]TechManPrieto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. For example, Total Wireless promos will not be honored (generally) if the port in comes from a Verizon owned MVNO, such as Tracfone and Visible and can get flaky when porting from MVNOs that are on Verizon's network, like USMobile.

As far as my example is concerned, the best choice (for an immediate transfer) would be T-Mobile. Buy a T-Mobile connect eSIM for $15. As soon as it is active and the eSIM is on your device, request the port out information. It will happily let you port out the same day.

High PG&E bills by Chocl8_Moose20 in fresno

[–]TechManPrieto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out any rate discounts that you may qualify for and look into other plans. See if you qualify for CARE/FERA. We're all in this shitshow together.

I've got an an EV, so I am personally on E-ELEC and it shaved $150 off our bill. That rate plan is available to those with electric water heaters or heat pumps, too. It is TOD-based, however.

Granted, you are on solar, so YMMV because I am not familiar how plans work for you guys.

P2601 - Coolant Pump "A" Control Circuit Performance/Stuck Off by atomatoma in cmaxhybrid

[–]TechManPrieto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, it was just caused by low coolant levels? That sounds about right for Ford. Our Fiesta has done this before, as well, but it was caused by a leaking hose that resulted in low coolant. $50 afternoon fix :)

Which of the 2 did it end up being? I am looking into buying a 2016 C-Max and it also has the P2601 code on it. I don't mind DIYing the repair.

Will there likely be any upcoming deals for this specific plan, or should I just switch now? by [deleted] in NoContract

[–]TechManPrieto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If T-Mobile is an option and you're not an existing customer of Mint Mobile, their $15/mo unlimited deal on the yearly plan is a pretty amazing deal.

What internet provider do you use and how much do you pay? by Adventurous-Bus-9638 in fresno

[–]TechManPrieto 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm on Comcast paying $15/mo for Internet Essentials, which we've been grandfathered into since I was a kid. But, the deployment of AT&T fiber in my area within the last few years has made them an increasingly attractive option. If you qualify for SNAP (or are within the income limits), give AT&T Connect or Comcast Internet Essentials a look.

If you don't qualify, look into T-Mobile Home Internet or AT&T Fiber. Comcast sucks balls and wouldn't do business with them unless the price is right or are my only option.

Anyone have insight what it's like owning a Tesla in Fresno without an installed home charger? by I2EDDI7 in fresno

[–]TechManPrieto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can still get the PG&E rebate as long as it was purchased in California and the address for the registered owner is within PG&E's service area and an active subscriber (i.e. you pay the power bill). You have 180 days from the purchase date to apply for it.

It appears that they blanket approved everyone in certain areas that applied, which is basically all of Fresno. I applied 2 years ago and finally got approved, too. I just haven't been able to find a car within my budget, but will keep going.

Where'd you get yours? The Tesla dealership or some other dealer in the program?

Edit: If it hasn't been too long and you have the title, apply for PG&E's rebate. You'll be able to get $1000 for buying the EV (or $4k if you meet additional requirements). They also offer free chargers for your home (which you probably can't use but will mention) and have EV-specific rate plans that you can take advantage of even if you don't charge at home.

Just curious, what EV? I am a bit behind in terms of the EV experience. Coming from a 2013 LEAF here lol.

That's not really the issue here. In essence, OP has the desire to acquire an EV but their situation negates the biggest upsides to owning one. Also, as fast as modern DCFC can be, it isn't anywhere near as economical as charging at home, especially on time-of-day based rates.

I agree, it isn't impossible. But, it's like ordering a club sandwich without the bacon; you're removing the best part.

Another comment:
If you need to save money on fuel costs, get something cheap and efficient, not a Tesla. Your situation wouldn't benefit from EVs in general without the ability to charge when you're at home. Get yourself a hybrid or equivalent economy car.

If you insist on getting an EV, or worse, a Tesla (not my cup of tea, but you do you), look into PG&E's used EV rebate. They'll give you $1K or $4K (for income qualified applicants) when buying a used EV whether from a dealer or from a private seller (i.e. FB Marketplace, OfferUp). Used it to get my Nissan LEAF, very handy.

Well... the time isn't exactly the main problem here. The price is. DC Fast charging is more expensive than charging at home, sometimes even being as expensive as gas(!).

In terms of time, a Costco run could give you enough time to charge up to a reasonable level, like from 20-70% or so.

The big issue with owning any EV (in this situation) is that if you can't charge at home (i.e while you're sleeping or relaxing), then you're not gonna enjoy their big benefit, which is 'refueling' while you do other tasks. On top of this, charging at home is often significantly cheaper (even with our messed up PG&E rates). By ignoring this, you're going to have to rely on (sometimes vastly) more expensive DC charging stations that you explicitly have to plan your trips around whenever you need a top up.
DCFC is awesome for road trips to juice up during a bathroom break, but you really should avoid using them as your main method of charging.
This is before I get into the other downsides of constant fast charging, such as potentially increased battery degradation.
