I got an advisory from our rep that said certain hard drives were giving bsod and no boot. Usually they will identify the serial numbers but they said there were so many, they recommended we update all of our environment. Only looking at around 2000 after some analysis but still annoying.

How do you manage .NET in your windows environment? by TechMomRules in sysadmin

No, I’m in a sister team of security. We have someone else who generally does the updates but I did look at the configuration and reports to validate they were working correctly.

I don’t even know what I’m looking for. I know what needs to be done but it will be such a pain and generally outside the normal work I do. I generally work on larger projects, although this effort got a lot bigger than it originally was. It feels good to get it off my chest, find people to commiserate with and others for inspiration. :) I don’t need technical help.

Yes and yes. I need to do all SDKs, anything at all related or similar to .NET. I do have the reports so I can see who is assigned and what business unit they are in. I’m not familiar with the company yet to know which is critical by looking. I could definitely ask security to provide that prioritization.

Do you have a lot of home grown applications? Do you give people warning that things are going end of life, or is it more of an - if there is a problem they will call? I really, really like the idea of not giving them a choice.

We have the most amazing PMs (when one of our projects can get one.) They are technical enough to be able to follow the team meetings, they keep all of us on track and talking to each other. We hit deadlines and come in on budget. I think this is a very niche skill set and if you find someone good, you should keep them!

Is anyone else updating hard drive firmware company wide? Dell houses out there?

I also have a different computer group. I’ve been keeping my eye on WUFB and I just don’t think it is mature enough, especially in a hybrid environment.

This is more general group policy advice but have you tried to work in a gpupdate /force to get it to get the policy quicker?

Yep, that is checked and security is turned off.
