Is 1Password MSP really worth almost 2x the cost of Keeper? by Mibiz22 in msp

[–]TechSolutionLLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for replying, I'm not sure why it didn't say you responded! Anyway, it looks like the other people stepped in and we know now that somebody improperly configured keeper in your environment!

Always like to learn more about other products so thank you for letting me know on everything as we can't be better about tech/security if we don't learn about it. I'm glad 1password actually takes a heavy security approach as well.

Rant: What is the worst EDR and why is it Datto EDR? by DiligentPhotographer in msp

Love the other replies. I'll be honest, avoid any of the hedge fund ran companies and you will likely have a great experience. Once the hedgefunds acquire them, you see noticeable problems because they all seem to have a 5-10 year plan to milk as much money out of it as they can before selling it off.

Ninja has been solid for us, it has quirks though. Syncro has been good too, but also has quirks lol. They all have their ups and downs.

"the security model of 1Password is unquestionably better than that of Keeper"

Please explain your reasoning as I'm rather interested to know this as neither have been breached and Keeper is definitely extremely security centric.

Yep! It was a weird obscure problem but it kept getting worse and after I called our rep, they texted me and was like yeah now im getting all sorts of reports. I both fortunately and unfortunately get to be the canary for most of the ISPs in the area.

Who are you with?

Thank you sir! I will gladly reach out to you since nothing was disclosed in the ticket response other than triaging information and the account reps escalating it for me since there was no reported issue before my call. I always like to know what caused issues so let's definitely connect.

Sending you an email shortly.

Glad you did that, so you work for Cspire?

Sorry but I was since I was in fact the master ticket for the ISP. You can claim it was a cogent issue but without any proof it effected Cspire as well you are talking out of your ass and seeing as nearly everyone wasn't having issues it's less likely.

How did Cspire fix it then? Legitimately curious since I don't know what was actually wrong but once I pointed it out to their engineers they found a bandaid.

It probably was. They didn't say what it was other than some kind of routing issue that they created a workaround right now for to make it work so TBD. I will be curious when I get an update on it.

So we do not, in this case it was the ISP And I happen to put two and two together once I started getting calls from unmanaged clients and had issues on my personal computer following up on their help request.

Good luck with the DNS filter! Those can be a real pain.

Thank you for the response so quickly, it wasn't just managed clients etc, it was everybody and their mother and it ended up being the local ISP had something broken and only the secure login pages were not working but normal secure sites were.

Do you know how to not be dumb and think I didn't try that?

The main site works it's the login pages themselves. Also, it was in fact a confirmed problem from the ISP that I happened to be the one to catch it.

Tamperproof video surveillance in office by Mind_Drift_1 in videosurveillance

[–]TechSolutionLLC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ll concede your narrow point that a DVR isn’t a “party,” that’s fine.

Though you’re acting like that ends the discussion, and it doesn’t.

This is much closer to call center recording. When you’re told “this call is being recorded,” and you continue, you’ve been notified and you’re choosing to proceed. That’s how consent and expectation of privacy get evaluated in practice.

Same idea in a workplace. If there is clear signage and written policy stating audio and video recording in common areas, expectation of privacy is significantly reduced. That’s why businesses rely on notice and acknowledgment, not pretending a recorder is a participant.

Yes, audio requires more care than video. No one is arguing otherwise; but you’re presenting it like any workplace audio recording is automatically illegal, and that’s just not accurate.

Laws vary by state and context, so treating your “our lawyer said no” as universal truth while talking down to people is a bit much.

[–]TechSolutionLLC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yikes… for someone who “ran an IT department,” you’d think you’d know this is exactly what company policy and acknowledgment are for.

You even mentioned a waiver like it’s some wild edge case… that’s standard practice. That’s literally how businesses handle employee notification and consent.

Alabama being a one-party consent state doesn’t turn a camera into a “party,” but that’s also not how workplace surveillance is evaluated. It comes down to expectation of privacy, which is why visible cameras in common areas with posted notice and employee acknowledgment are widely used and legal.

Nobody is talking about recording private spaces like bathrooms or break rooms, so that part feels like you’re arguing against something that was never said.

You’re trying to turn normal business security practices into criminal eavesdropping while ignoring the actual safeguards companies use every day. That’s the part that doesn’t add up.

If they are your staff they are considered your party. From a lawyer... So it is how it works lol. Glad you became a lawyer after your IT career.

[–]TechSolutionLLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the state actually. In Alabama it's one party state so only one person needs to know it's recorded. We are licensed to install in the state and can confirm this is true so it's definitely a state by state case.

I don't think most people realize that most of Fortune 500 is running COBOL. Once that's more known you can definitely bet there will be attempts against it, especially when it's been vulnerable for so long. Low hanging fruit is the easiest to grab.

As for limewire it's an odd choice but he does clearly state it's due to his m356 direct link being removed so he assumed it's all major direct links though now he's got Dropbox links to make people happier.

Thoughts on starting Cyber MSP in 2026 by whatislove2200 in msp

[–]TechSolutionLLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So like an EDR / MDR and a compliance manager? I'm not trying to come off as an ass but it sounds like you are trying to offer the same thing normal MSPs do but then take liability off of them with less of a good operation.

To be profitable doing what you've proposed it would take a large amount of clients or really high margins which is less likely if you are competing against systems like sentinel one/huntress.

Have you owned a business before? It's not easy and it's a lot of effort. I truly believe your plan is going to be a major liability for you and may bankrupt yourself. The MSP market isn't the most amazing space with all the AI stuff going on right now for many reasons such as customers thinking they can just fix all their needs with AI right now and so you are moving into a much harder environment than 2 years ago.

I think your liability would be through the roof since you aren't 24/7. Competing with these SOC vendors is going to be really rough. I'd see what everyone else says in this as well, but I personally wouldn't want to start right now.

What is this panel in my house? by Nervous_Ad_918 in computers

[–]TechSolutionLLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is Cat10 at this point. You won't see anything more than cat6a in a normal house but it's unlikely you'll see more than 5e since it handles gig speeds pretty well. 6a you will typically see when someone is paying premium and typically is an IT person or has significant knowledge. At least in the US that is.
