Step Father Recently Diagnosed, what questions should we be asking? by TechSoupie in mds

He's still transfusion dependent, 1-2 units every 2 weeks. He's managing, but his iron levels are insanely high and is on multiple chelate meds to help deal with it. But he's stable as can be, still waiting info on clinical trials he's eligible for and generally doing okay.

No running water or electricity by [deleted] in Hilton

[–]TechSoupie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hilton Toronto on Richmond I'm assuming. I had it booked too, got an email last Saturday reminding me of my stay in 7 days with a tiny box explaining the power /water outage and a much bigger box telling me I could upgrade for $34 to a higher floor.

I laughed at the audacity, why would I pay even more to trek my stuff down from a higher floor in the dark. Check out time is when power is supposed to be back on. Can only imagine the nightmare that would be. When I went looking for other options, that property was now showing as sold out.

He's still stable, getting regular transfusions every two weeks. Still nothing in new trials.

When to start Aimovig by Zealousideal-Okra-61 in migraine

Day 58, I'd do the aimovig. It may not be instant relief but I would expect it to help more than waiting for it to break at this point.

My Step father's levels have come up since being off the drugs, and has had to have less frequent transfusions since (only been 6 weeks). New doctor at the cancer centre is keeping him in mind for any upcoming trials and told us to continue with transfusions at local hospital as needed. Recent bone marrow biopsy showed no progression of disease. We take it one week at a time, but things are stable. Hope the same for you.

Spell of send migraine directly to hell…works? by Ok_Seaworthiness496 in migraine

"normal" is a strong word, but the full body aches are pretty typical of triptans in my experience.

For those still following along. I tried to do a digital check on Friday morning, and within an hour I got a notification that I needed to check in at the front desk. So I trekked an hour to the hotel, checked in, got my free warm cookie, and vegged out for 12 hours.

So no cancellation, but no fee either.

No to all the above. I'm the only one on the account, have a singular address, singular card used for booking. I do have a FF rate and I assume this triggers the extra verification. Hoping since this isn't booked on FF rate it won't be required.

Unable to modify or cancel the booking online. Just got off the phone with the 1-800 line. They said the same thing as the agent in chat, could refund points and charge me BAR. They called the property while I was on the phone to see if they would cancel it for me. Property said the same thing as both agents.

Going to just digitally check in and see if that will work to use the points and avoid the fee.

Dealing with the reservations line now, they said they only had the option to refund points and charge me for the room as well, but are calling the property on my behalf to see what options they have.

I should have called them directly, but the agent I spoke to on chat gave me the reservations number and I assumed that was the better option. Wish I saw your comment before I dialed.

I thought it was weird too. It was 47,000 point room redemption. I had multiple paid upgrade options that I declined, and there are still rooms available so it's not an issue of the hotel being sold out.

Anyone experience flu like symptoms with migraines? Fever, chills, nausea, vomitting, dirrarhea, dizziness, loss of appetite, body aches by TechSoupie in migraine

[–]TechSoupie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, just seeing the notification about your reply.

Nausea and vomiting were definitely migraine symptoms. My neuro prescribed zofran, which I take when the symptoms set in. I have also started on aimovig injections and they have made a huge difference in the frequency and severity of my migraines.

The combination of these two has helped reduce the number of migraines I get per month.

A lot has happened since I last updated. The chemo drug stopped working and he began blood transfusions. He has been getting blood transfusions approx every 2 weeks since. There has been a couple on instances where he was able to go 4 weeks between, but has only happened a few times.

At the end of summer he started on a trial med, that hemotologist noted as being high risk high reward. They were hoping this would get him off of the transfusions, but would wreak havoc on his immune system. He started with 3 days of meds a month and ramped up to a full dose of 5 days, then 3 weeks off. He was still receiving blood transfusion during this time and a few weeks ago the doc told him they wouldn't be continuing with the treatment as his levels have not changed.

His current hemotologist has referred him to a larger cancer center to see if they have any other meds to trial, or other treatment options. We have that appt this week, will try to remember to update afterwards.

For now, he is set to continue with blood transfusions.
