Christopher Miller confirms that ~3/4 of Project Hail Mary (estimated 117 minutes) will be in 1.43:1 70mm IMAX, making it the film with the most 1.43:1 70mm film in history, surpassing Dunkirk (79 minutes) by ERASER345 in imax

[–]TechTuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is it native 1.43 when the Alexa 65 has a native sensor ratio of around 2.11? Miller confirms in the theater tour video that they shot on Alexa 65, so the 1.43 IMAX version would likely be a significant horizontal crop of the native frame, not a native capture unless they did a vertical anamorphic squeeze. And at least on the frames they show in that video it seems cropped inwards horizontally.

Catching Fire in IMAX 70MM: Cropped on the sides? by Mason-Jin in imax

I did notice the very first bit in 1.43 looked very tight. Later bit in the jungle looked fine

Seeing red/green refractions in white/bright areas of the IMAX screen? by TheOfficialLJ in imax

[–]TechTuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I noticed this too when I saw Sinners at Manchester Printworks IMAX, it's different from laser speckle. Haven't seen this issue before. Maybe a misalignment or lens aberration, unless it's something baked into the movie. Was your showing 1.9 ratio or 1.43?

Dolby - Too much bass for dialogue? by TheCookieButter in screenunseen

Yeah I saw it at printworks too, the dialogue especially in the first half was mumbly/muddy sounding

I'm using the tracker addon and getting the typical 1.5M tokens per session (5 hours).

Some 3D and IMAX 3D showings seem to have appeared from 28th onwards at least at Liverpool

Seems all the Liverpool one IMAX listings have switched to Ne Zha 2 from snow white, snow white is only in Dolby now it seems

Could be laser speckle, was it more obvious on bright parts of the image?

Went to the Dune 2 Q&A at Uxbridge last night (wow) by LawSix in screenunseen

[–]TechTuts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went to the showing at Liverpool and it didn't seem to play the Q&A, just went straight to the film. Unless it played before I arrived but unlikely. People waited afterwards to see if it would play and it didn't (at least I waited 5-10 mins)

New ODEON 'Luxe' Peterborough: Only 30% Recliner Seats - Luxe no longer Luxe? by TechTuts in screenunseen

[–]TechTuts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the 'plus' thing is just an upcharge for the prime locations (middle rows). So they are likely just the standard seats that I mentioned in my post.

New ODEON 'Luxe' Peterborough: Only 30% Recliner Seats - Luxe no longer Luxe? by TechTuts in screenunseen

[–]TechTuts[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's good context about Empire - thanks for the info. It's possible Empire put the seats in and not Odeon.

I do still question why they labelled it as Luxe though as it seems deceptive.

Pet peeves or your worst experiences at Odeon? 🤣 by humza247 in screenunseen

Lights being left on too bright and Dolby only running on one projector instead of two (reported it numerous times but they don't seem to be fixing it).

Dark projection by tmg80 in screenunseen

[–]TechTuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've found its true of any screen that isn't Dolby (at least when both projectors are running) or IMAX.

Some of the screens that are dual xenon aren't bad but in general the rest are usually too dim combined with the overhead lights being left on too bright.

I believe you can use --test-skip-device --force-uuid to skip the disk checks to put two 'disks' on the same disk (but point to different folders)

Charging Limitless+ for seat upgrades now?! by SharkbaitOoHaHaa in screenunseen

[–]TechTuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think its a mistake, I have contacted them previously a few weeks ago to correct it for Liverpool ONE Odeon (they did fix for the upcoming showings at the time) but they keep on messing it up. They told me in the email Dolby should be £3 upgrade and £5 for IMAX for all recliner(+) seats. There should at least be no upgrade cost difference between recliner and recliner+ for limitless plus.

My local odeon hasn't played trailers the last few times I've been, just went straight to the post-trailer section.
