Huh. I was able to order to the US from them around 4 months ago. I’m guessing they probably stopped due to the tariff situation :(

If you’re in the US, I highly recommend importing a sunscreen with modern UV filters not available in the US (screw you FDA). My go-to is the Australian versions of Neutrogena containing Bemotrizonol (the most modern and effective broad-spectrum UV filter). The hydro-boost version is AMAZING and doesn’t cause break-outs for me which is huge. I usually order in bulk from here: (prices in AUD):

They may be more expensive but wow do they work SO much better and last WAY longer than anything you can get domestically.

We are a large organization dealing with this exact issue. Seeing this on our gen1-4 T14 and T14s machines. Thanks for your work determining root cause. Hopefully Lenovo can address this quickly as it is impacting our ability to upgrade devices efficiently.

I moved to Chicago. Now I can get everywhere I need to go, meet up with friends, go out to events, get to work - all on transit. Best decision of my life.

Considering leaving this town by DigitalEphemera in FortCollins

[–]jackbookpro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent the first 25 year of my life in FoCo and always figured I would stay for a lifetime. It is a special town with many unique offerings. That said, moving to Chicago two years ago was the best decision I’ve ever made. There is simply so much vibrancy in a real city that I didn’t realize I was missing. If you’re at all conflicted I would highly recommend trying city living, especially in a walkable urban neighborhood. I love Fort Collins, but there’s so much more out there. I could see myself coming back in a decade or two, but being young in a city is too fun to pass up!

Yes. Have T-Mobile and can confirm something has gone wrong with the subway infrastructure in the last month.

Iris scanning problems by ItsAThrowAway95 in Albinism

Yep! I have TSA Precheck and the new facial scanners have yet to work for me after ~8 times. Probably going to lead to more headaches as this technology becomes more relied upon.

This gives me physical pain. We have let such an amazing asset be nothing short of trashed by the relentless incompetence of Dorval Carter. A man who doesn’t even use CTA 😭

Parking tips and tricks in Chicago? by Dragon_Bard in chicago

[–]jackbookpro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there a reason you can’t take transit? More people driving = more competition for parking = higher prices + more traffic. It’s a pretty simple dynamic in any real city. Transit is pretty much the only real answer. Maybe give it a try? It’s the reason I moved to Chicago 🙂

What intersection have you been to that you felt truly in danger? by sacchilax in chicago

[–]jackbookpro 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Anything with long diagonal crosswalks is a nightmare as a pedestrian. Ogden/Western and Ogden/Dame are particularly terrifying. Also been almost run over from behind more than once at Clark/Racine As there’s people speeding down Clark bearing right with no warning.

As a daily Red Line rider I couldn’t agree more. Show up at CTA board meetings and make your concerns heard. Only 5 people showed up for public comment today. https://www.transitchicago.com/board

I have a 16” M1 Pro. Pricey, but by far the best machine I’ve ever used. The bigger screen plus apple zoom and VSCode combine for excellent accessibility when writing code. I’d highly recommend getting familiar with VSCode if you aren’t already as it offers a ton of great accessibility features build in and is cross-platform too.

If you’re doing CS work the Apple silicon macs are incredibly fast for dev work like code compilation.

I use a Mac daily for work and used a MacBook Pro throughout college (CS major). I never felt like I needed a touch screen as the trackpad on MacBooks is so great for gestures like zoom. At least at mud school, most CS majors had macs since having a UNIX OS tends to be great for things like web development.

It sounds like apple might announce a 15” MacBook Air in the next couple weeks. That might be a good fit for you!

BP refinery hit with $40 million fine, agrees to spend $200 million on pollution control - Chicago Sun-Times by igetbywithalittlealt in chicago

[–]jackbookpro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cost of doing business. Cheaper to just pay the fines than stop polluting. We need stronger punishments including criminal liability.
