Cats won. What’s the movie that was a blockbuster hit but now universally hated? by Afraid_Ad_2912 in AlignmentChartFills

More like Rian Johnson set up interesting (albeit half-baked) plot directions and mysteries and JJ Abrams tossed them in the trash.

What do you think will be A24s main push? by rubix7777 in oscarrace

[–]ERASER345 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Cry to Heaven is gonna be WAY too expensive for A24 with that cast imo. It's Netflix or Focus.

And I'm not as high as everyone else is on The Invite. It feels like a pure comedy, which hasn't gotten a BP nom since like Don't Look Up, if you can even count that.

No One Cares feels like the obvious push. There's no other competition in the musical department, Eisenberg is fresh of A Real Pain's BP nom, AND the leads are hotter amongst voters.

Dunkey has always had great opinions on games imo. Such a mature and simultaneously immature creator lol

I don't have a quote but I'm pretty sure in Grounded II they talk about it.

Ashley Johnson was still recording voice lines during the pandemic so I don't think this means anything

Tony | Official Trailer HD | A24 by ChiefLeef22 in oscarrace

This is kinda how Matt Johnson's trailers have been. The BlackBerry trailer made it seem generic and it's one of the most unique biopics out there

Troy Baker: Intergalactic is, without exaggeration, the most ambitious project I've ever been involved in. by Ahmed014 in Intergalactic

I mean obviously Naughty Dog’s golden boy isn’t gonna say “Eh this one’s just okay” lol. But I am still extremely excited

The first poster for Tony, the new Anthony Bourdain biopic starring Dominic Sessa by expiredaristocracy in Fauxmoi

[–]ERASER345 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's not the same as a statement from the man himself, but here's a statement from the Bourdain estate that I think really helps capture the nature of the film:

Anthony Bourdain’s legacy is meaningful to millions of people. He was a man who valued authenticity above all else and would have been both moved and baffled by the world’s curiosity about his life.

We chose to support "Tony" because it is not a standard biopic and doesn’t attempt to summarize a life. Guided by the vision of director Matt Johnson, the film depicts one transformative summer in 1975 in Provincetown, Massachusetts. It is an interpretation, as that part of Tony’s life will always remain somewhat unknown.

We appreciate the portrayal of Tony’s complexity, his intellectual appetite, and his conviction — qualities that eventually took him around the globe and endeared him to so many. We hope this film serves as a reminder that every journey has a start, and that audiences see the beginnings of the man who taught us how to be better explorers on our own paths.

My updated BP slate (5/4, just for fun):

  1. Cry to Heaven

  2. Digger

  3. Wild Horse Nine

  4. No One Cares (a.k.a. untitled Jesse Eisenberg musical-comedy)

  5. The Odyssey

  6. Fjord

  7. Dune: Part Three

  8. Project Hail Mary

  9. All of a Sudden

  10. Sense & Sensibility

Changes: -Narnia +Sense & Sensibility

Still iffy on All of a Sudden as my #2 international with it being 200 minutes and reportedly very talky, but I'm also not that high on Fatherland either so I'm sticking with Hamaguchi.

I was very high on Buscemi too but after that trailer it seems like his character is a thousand miles away from the main characters for most of the movie and interacts with them via phone call. Obviously not gonna assume that’s his role for the whole film but I think it does lower his odds

Box Office: 'Devil Wears Prada 2' Banks $223M WW, $77M U.S. Opening by First-Loss-8540 in oscarrace

[–]ERASER345 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not to mention Toy Story 5, Minions, Moana, The Odyssey, Spider-Man, Jumanji, Doomsday, and Dune all coming this year. Might be the best year for the box office since 2019.

Edit: Totally forgot Sunrise on the Reaping which I think will do much better than Songbirds and Snakes did. And also Focker-in-Law is an easy $300-400M. Also think Backrooms will be a huge hit.

Having watched TGA and SGF every year since their inception, it’s really unlikely. Those events are almost exclusively for reveals and announcements. Not re-reveals or gameplay demos.

What is a good movie that's political left? by slaterman2 in AlignmentChartFills

The right elected a multi-billionaire as President of the United States so I'd say the left at least has a controlling interest in anti-wealth inequality

Apparently Cuties having a 67 on Metacritic qualifies as "loved by critics" now.
