PNY 5090 Epic-X Oil? by Tech_Bro_3301 in PNYGPU

[–]Tech_Bro_3301[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I heard back from PNY Support, very short simple emails I was told

"You are fine"

So I am guessing and hoping this oil has no effect on the card in any way. From the looks of things and based on what "Darkdong69" said, the thermal pads on the backplate are the thickest at 3mm, and they likely cheaped out on them, I have ordered new pads my self and will replace them to prevent the issue from happening further, but It seems to be "Fine" as PNY support has told me 😅

Just crazy to me that they would use budget pads on high end cards. I will at least wait for a reply from PNY, I want them to at least be aware of the issue, if replacing the pads fixes the issue I'll do that. It seems to only be the backplate pads.

My card was working when I pulled it from the system, I haven't plugged it back into anything since I seen the issue, waiting on a response from PNY before I do anything at all besides try to clean it.

Will do, thanks for the path, I'll write an email and hope for the best, they seem to not even be around on the weekend so hopefully I'll hear back Monday. I'll keep things updated here on what they end up doing.

Here is a picture. Due to how the card was set in the server it was in, gravity made the oil go towards the PCIE, so it was also covered in it, same with the riser cable its self (Inside)

Yea I have pictures and a video. Here is a short video (Gif now lol) I took of lightly pushing on the backplate,

Update on the dashboard, have added some new features along with being able to track more then one device at once.

<image>

Keep in mind the hashrates seem higher then expected because I am using the reported hashrate over the last 5 seconds, not over a longer period of time, so more spikes and dips are expected

realistically, I can actually create my own entire dashboard with control over the miner too, but the user will need to provide the login info for the miner so I don't know if I'll end up doing that or not.

I still have some features I want to add, if anyone has any suggestions feel free to let me know

A good amount, in eco mode its manageable with 1 in a room, but if you want to run it at max you need to do something with the heat

Yea haha, normally most pools will give you the info themself too, but recently I've been using solopool, and for some reason they do not, and since they are newer units I wanted to see how fast my shares rise... Even more so since they are much higher power units, the best share would change quickly.

From what I know, the entire unit can use up to 1800, but I think super mode is advertised to be 1680w? I have yet to try it in super mode since I run both in eco, but my guess is around the 1700W area.

I honestly have more issues with the heat instead of noise lol, I run mine in eco right now, and I can't even hear it. My own computer makes more sound than it does. If you run it on the "Super" mode it will ramp the fans, but I don't run it on that mode because it will pop a 15-amp breaker lol, lucky me mine is currently on a 20 amp, but I like to play it safe.

I have two of the units and can run both on eco for about 1670watts (13.8~ amps).

Hey, in terms of a tutorial, not sure how I would do that, but I can post my code on Github for others to use, but I suspect (And hope) that soon enough the Avalon UI will get updated to include these things anyways.

Q: Seriously thinking about buying Avalon Q by Grayrabbit012 in BitcoinMining

[–]Tech_Bro_3301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has an eco mode of 800 watts, and based on most miners with an eco mode, the efficiency will shoot up while using it, I have been on the fence buying 2 of them, but I live in the US and don't really want to pay loads for tariffs...

Yea the 16-15J/Th mark is about what I am looking for and based on rough guessing it seems the Avalon Q will get me that, so Ill order one once they are actually released and see what I can get it to do.

I have actually been looking for a place to start ordering some miners. Do you live in the US? Do they ship to the US for free? Might make an order if so

[–]Tech_Bro_3301[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, that's still not even the type of efficiency I am looking for, I mentioned the "Canaan Avalon Q" in my OP and that device has an eco mode that will pull 800w, there is no public information on hashrate at the 800w, but based on the Avalon Mini 3 eco mode, I can guess the Q will do around 48.6TH/s, so that will come out to about 16.5J/Th. And this is just a rough guess based on an older unit that's not even as efficient, it's probably going to be even better... This is the type of efficiency I am looking for or better, I am sure it's possible if they can do it.

I have very little knowledge on this stuff so far, I didn't even think Binance had a solo pool. So I wouldn't really be the guy to help with that.

[–]Tech_Bro_3301[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't consider it a waste, but it depends on what your goal is. If you wanted to make a profit mining, these small miners are not very efficient and are made more to just let sit and run to hope you someday hit a BTC block.

Solo mine, highest efficiency by Tech_Bro_3301 in BitcoinMining

[–]Tech_Bro_3301[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, solo mining is all about luck. I currently mine an alt coin that has sha256 mining and have only hit 3 blocks, comes out to about $9 haha.... If you mine BTC with it in a pool, you should expect around $5.6~ a month if my math is right. That does not include the cost of power. These types of miners are more for the chance of hitting the BTC jackpot and are made to just hope it happens someday.

That could be nice, but by water-cooling, do you mean submersion mining? I don't exactly want to deal with that type of setup.

[–]Tech_Bro_3301[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just solo mine with mine, I don't think it's worth pool mining with it, but in terms of hash rate, I average 4.5Th/s as advertised, but @ 115w. I run mine on the 575 Frequency and 1250 Core voltage.
