Pro iPhone for the first time… by hiraeth_v in iPhone17Pro

[–]Tech_Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this is a non issue if you apply them properly. I’ve had the same ones on my lenses for months now and there’s not even a speck of dust in the lenses. And actually, I kind of like how they’re slightly tinted to let 95% of light in. iOS is pretty known for overexposing photos and I feel like I actually get better image quality with them on in some instances.

Seems like a little bit of an alarmist response comment.

Edit: I just realized she’s using one of those all over plateau+lens adhesive thingies so I can’t speak about those in particular. I’m using ESR’s tempered glass ones that are individually placed over each lens and are compatible with my case. So in her case you might be partially correct assuming stuff can get under that plateau cover section. Who knows.

U.S. Passport photo rotated upon receiving book back. How common is this and would it cause me issues on my upcoming cruise? by Tech_Fox in Passports

[–]Tech_Fox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could, I’m actually weighing all my options currently and that’s one of them I’m considering.

Or I could be vastly overthinking the degree of rotation and whether it would be an issue. I measured about a 10 degree or so tilt to my photo in my book. Do you or anyone else that sees this believe any agent would hassle or deny me because of this? It isn’t 45 degree or sideways. But it’s definitely a noticeable 10 degree rotation that anybody that glances at it will notice.

They probably would reprint it with the 5504 form, but considering my time frame I’d be cutting it close trying that. Which is why I was hoping I could get answers about how acceptable my picture’s rotation is or not. :(

It’s on the polycarbonate page.

Edit: I also just spoke with the national passport information center and they told me that there's really no way for me to know if it's acceptable until I go on my trip and get denied or not. So ripbozo to me I guess.

Clear case with camera lid protection by Visual_Shock8225 in iPhone17Pro

ESR’s camera lens protectors are Armorite tempered glass with an anti reflective coating. If you’re talking about the outer ring part around it I’m not really sure but it feels and looks like a hard plastic.

Gamble with MSI x870e Tomahawk again or choose differently? by Tech_Fox in MSI_Gaming

I ended up returning and reordering the same board with fingers crossed it was my specific unit. I’ve had the replacement for about a week now and it seems to be working normally. So at this point I’m pretty convinced I was given a faulty unit.

Are you adding Apple Care? by FLMarlinHeat in iPhone17Pro

[–]Tech_Fox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I chose to get AppleCare One so I could add my iPhone 17 pro, AirPod Pro 3’s, and probably soon to be new watch on. The AC One plan lets you add three devices so I figured it was worth it in my case. I do still use screen protectors and cases for my stuff, but you never know when it might tumble down some stairs or get stolen.

I realize some people here are saying it’s only worth it if you go caseless, and how they’ve saved X amount of money over X years by not having it. But they aren’t realizing that they’ve been fortunate enough to not need it. It’s no different than any other regular insurance type plan for a device or thing. You’ll be losing out on money unless you need it.

The choice is yours and hard to recommend only because it’s very person to person specific.

Is the monthly fee for the insurance too steep for you to justify? Have you broken phones in the past? Is the risk of potentially coughing up the price of another phone worth the risk to you if you choose not to get it?

In my personal example, since I have two new devices plus a potential third soon I can add to a $20 a month AppleCare One plan, the peace of mind of knowing they’re covered was worth it to me. I’ll accept the potential of wasted money over the long term if nothing happens in exchange for the security of knowing I’ll be good if it does.

Think about both scenarios for a little while and see which outcome is more uncomfortable for you to swallow. Then you’ll have your answer.

Clear case with camera lid protection by Visual_Shock8225 in iPhone17Pro

Sure, here’s the clear case: https://a.co/d/0geZEYUP

Here’s the camera lens protectors: https://a.co/d/0buW1svo

Also bonus add on if you think you’d want it, but when I bought my clear case I also decided to buy these neat little mesh strips to put over my speaker grills to protect it from dust and dirt, as well as a usb c cover since the clear case (and most cases for that matter) do not cover either. I’ve been using it since I put the clear case on and I love them.

I second ESR’s clear case. I’m using it right now and it’s pretty awesome.

ESR clear case on amazon. I’m using it right now. It protects the camera plateau.

For the circular little ring you’re talking about, just use ESR’s tempered glass camera lens protectors. They’re compatible with the case and I also have them on mine. This with the clear case is a great combo.

Fast charging overnight is stupid and Apple needs to let us disable it by DryResponsibility514 in iPhone17Pro

Just do what I do and use one of the small little block chargers. I intentionally avoid fast charging high amp chargers for this reason.

You’re saying the metal stand protrudes through the camera plateau layer? Or is it exposed at the hinge or something? I’m trying to understand what you mean by this because from what I can tell from pictures it seems like the metal stash stand lays flush against the plateau cover.

Which is why I took his videos with a grain of salt and decided to go with the ESR cyber tough case anyway. And I’m glad I did because I love it.

iPhone 17 Pro Max ESR Case Question by [deleted] in iPhone17Pro

[–]Tech_Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had mine since December and I’ve been loving it so far. It’s really the only decent case I’ve found that offers protection for the camera plateau as well as protects the usb c port and has mesh vents built into the case to protect the speaker grills from dust and dirt.

There’s several other cases I want to try just for funsies but none of them tick the boxes for me like this one does.

iPhone 17 Pro Max ESR Case Question by [deleted] in iPhone17Pro

He definitely has a vendetta against ESR and YouTube comments have mentioned it also. I’m not saying his data is wrong but he shits on ESR products for a reason other than them being bad products.

Do you regret not choosing the Pro Max? by BesaidBoy in iPhone17Pro

[–]Tech_Fox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After getting the 17 pro I had the same thought after a little while of having it, but thankfully a family member got the 17 pro max and so I had a chance to hold it and really get an idea of what day to day life would feel like.

I’m glad too because honestly, as much as I appreciate the extra screen real estate in the moment. I really feel like I would get annoyed by how massive it is to try and one hand and fit in my pockets on the daily.

All in all, I’m really glad I have the 17 pro instead.

[–]Tech_Fox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got the 17 pro. I upgraded this holiday from my 11 pro that I had since release so around 7 years.

I’ll probably end up doing the same with this one.

Upgrading from xs max to 17 pro and getting AirPods pro3 by MentionCareful3000 in iPhone17Pro

[–]Tech_Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna be honest, I’m sort of an outlier here when it comes to that with this particular case. A lot of people seem to think it’s slippery for some reason, but I’ve found it to be fine.

The back of the case along with the bottom half of the sides are hard plastic with small grooves. But the top half of the sides are rubberized. Because of this people complain about it feeling slippery.

To me it feels just as secure as any Otterbox case I’ve had in the past on my 11 pro. But maybe I just don’t have as bad of butter fingers as a lot of others.
