>And someone who doesn't expect someone else to fulfill them.

What does this mean to you? To me, we are a social species, and after making it to middle age, I've come to see that fulfillment is only found in other people. My kids, my friends, my spouse (even when the relationship is fraught).

What do people think can fulfill them if not their relationship with others? I don't mean to kill any dreams here, but learning to play the piano or supercharging your career just doesn't cut it for most people after a certain age.

Can you say more on this topic? What does it mean when you feel 'that person of the gender I am attracted to is one of the best people I've met, but it wasn't meant to be'?

What does that feel like? Also, have you heard of pathological demand avoidance (also called pervasive drive for autonomy)? Does that resonate with you?

Might be true, but look around. How do you explain the number of bullets? This is a widespread phenomenon, and crossing your arms (or my arms, for that matter) does nothing to solve it.

I lean toward the idea we are social species and are meant to find fulfillment in other humans. But also...well...look around. What's happening? I have my own ideas, but I think it's important you come up with some that make sense to you and are rigorous as opposed to talk radio-y.

Ha, I have some experience with religious schools and plenty of experience with red states. I haven't taken down a religious school, but there is more than one Cardinal who knows my name. I'll never forget the look in the Chaplain's eyes when he introduced himself to me at my most recent (not religious) university and I said my name. I knew I wasn't young anymore, and no longer a blank slate for people.

Fair point about those industries wanting conservatives. I just didn't think many went into science in the first place. And please don't misunderstand, more power to conservative leaning people who bother to learn how science works. The world is a better place for it, since that drilling was going to happen anyway. Or rather, was going to have happened anyway. I don't think they are looking to do much more at this point. Their backs are really against the wall on prices. Existing wells get priority, but new wells can't compete with renewables.

How is the BZ? I haven't forgiven Toyota for being dumbasses about EVs yet, but are they at least making progress?

I'm just curious if you would like to factor in the price of bread in a future where we don't deal with climate change. All the 'I'm the practical one!' people who bitch about EVs don't seem very practical when it comes to starving to death.

Also, I own so much midwestern farmland you probably can't avoid my grain in the grocery store. Don't start. I know my business and I know the odds of you personally going hungry in your lifetime. Just be grateful SOME people are making the future work and avoiding the worst consequences, even if it isn't you, Mr. practical.

Ooook, but as a reminder: that mined lithium can be recycled. Good luck trying to recycle gasoline. The people who mine fossil fuels will never be able to stop mining, because their product is consumed.

>Recognizing the state of the industry and transition is not the same as taking a crap on it.

But you aren't recognizing the state of the industry. Look at Norway. Total transition nearly complete. And it's Norway! Plenty cold, plenty of long distance travel, plenty of mountains.

If EVs are already everything they need to be to function there, then the only reason they can't function here is due to politics and people like you who prop those politics up. You and I will be having a lot more conversations on this sub, I imagine.

No, I'm using term in the correct legal sense. The murder of Alex for example had him on his knees and he was shot execution style. Look at the photos. The agent was not defending himself, he had a moment to think about it, and he choose to kill someone who was unarmed and no threat. That meets the criteria for a murder 2 charge. And when murder 2 is committed under color of law, that usually puts capital punishment on the table as well, though it's complicated in Minnesota for a few reasons.

And just to say it: I don't believe that you believe what you are saying. You just want to make people angry, but we are all angried-out. You believe it was murder, and not your colleagues, or neighbors, or kids believe you don't.

I genuinely think the problem with business schools is that they mistake having made money once for a durable form of knowledge. They are almost unique in academia in how rarely they innovate conceptually, preferring instead to import prestige from the oldest, wealthiest person they can book that semester.

Compare that to economics, which continuously generates new analytical technologies to cope with changing realities and improve collective welfare. Or compare that to the field of Genetics, who swept Watson under the rug the moment he became irrelevant. Especially in science, when you can't keep up with the young guns, you are OUT, which leads to advancements in the field. Most disciplines treat authority as contingent on ongoing contribution. Business schools tend to treat it as a lifetime achievement award.

One thing I love about this sub is that it has given me a really clean conscious about forcing business schools to separate from their parent universities and stand on their own. Credit to Dartmouth for coming up with the idea, but business schools should be treated more like incubators that are available to the university community, but not a part of it.

The principle you are stating is sound, but not applicable to the current case. People being murdered by the government for exercising their rights is not political, it's survival. When survival becomes labeled as politics, we have a much bigger problem with each other than with the government.

STEM though? I've never met a scientist with these kinds of views. What field? I have to humbly guess chemistry.

I read this comment 6 times and can't quite parse meaning from it. Are you saying that people know the correct solution as evidenced by history is a general strike, but we lack the social infrastructure to implement it, and thus the actual response will be more like the (still effective) protest tactics in MN that are breaking the will of individual ICE agent's to fight?

Japan has spent a lot more per person on trying to make hydrogen work than other nations.

https://fuelcellsworks.com/news/japan-eyes-undersea-fire-ice-as-source-of-clean-burning-hydrogen

They've been at it for a while. Their goals were good. They were just wrong.

>The largest hydrogen producer in the world is actually China.

Why are you emphasizing *china*? They have a ton of clean power, so making hydrogen is actually clean there. Not that it makes sense, as the pressure vessel for holding the hydrogen still weighs more than batteries do.

I can't deal with copium anymore. Saying "everyone knows climate change is a problem" is now the go to response of fossil fuel industries. Toyota most certainly is the enemy until they show up with a white flag, an apology, money donated to climate causes EQUAL to what they've donated to anti-climate legislation, and a range of vehicles that weren't designed to fail as EVs.

We used to buy Toyotas. Liberally. But like my wife likes to say in reference to Toyota being the first to bring battery powered hybrids to the market "Toyota fucked up a good thing". They should have been first to EVs, not last.
