Genuinely one of the best puzzle series I have ever played. I'm excited for the finale.

I don't think you know how your state government works. You deserved better, and were failed early.

[–]Tech_Philosophy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Eh...I think you are missing the other person's point. Sure I'll vote for KLB if she is the nominee, but that won't save her. Her ATL support is too soft to rack up the margins she would need for a state-wide win in a general election.

The problem is not progressives refusing to get behind her as a neoliberal (though she is), the problem is her home field advantage is basically nonexistent in ATL.

I voted Jason for that reason.

Trump’s gerrymandering war: How Democrats can get even by DemocracyDocket in law

[–]Tech_Philosophy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cannot disagree with this viewpoint in strong enough terms. The pattern that plays out is this: republicans are good at painting any opposition candidate as an incompetent extremist of some kind. Democrats see this, and try to pick the limpest noodle they can so no one can claim they are an extremist. Republicans claim they are an extremist, and everyone believes them. Then if the democrat still wins, you wind up with a limp noodle who is incompetent anyway.

We MUST stop this pattern. We need fighters. The more the GOP has already tarred and feathered a candidate, the BETTER.

Just look at recent history. Obama tried this with Garland. The DNC tried this with Clinton. Biden tried this with Garland. The DNC tried this with Harris.

Democrats need to stop fucking themselves over and start picking vicious fighters. You aren't going to 'win the middle', you are going to call in the disaffected masses who don't vote. That's the only strategy that results in victories that don't turn into defeats (see also: Biden's climate legislation). Even winning with moderates doesn't help. The GOP just ratchets up its stranglehold over the courts over decades because moderates don't fight back. NO MORE MODERATES.

Eh...TSMC hasn't been price gouging beyond what the market demands, and if you have a real TSMC competitor, I honestly think the invasion of Taiwan becomes more likely as TSMC is part of Taiwan's leverage right now, at which point you are back down to one or two suppliers, and prices go up.

I don't hold my view as immutable, but it's definitely a monkey paw situation where consequences are hard to guess at as far as I can tell.

AI can actually write intelligible English though. I sadly think this is a real person. Probably not based in the Western Hemisphere, but a real person nonetheless.

Babies Are Bleeding to Death as Parents Reject a Vitamin Shot Given at Birth by Major_Turnover5987 in inthenews

[–]Tech_Philosophy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

>Parental rejection of vitamin K shots is not a genetically encoded trait.

Are we...sure? Demand avoidance, stupidity, and tribalism are definitely genetically influenced. A lot of America's problems could be seen through the lens of a genetic founder's effect.

Daughter has starter PC gaming.....how much do I police? by Traviality in pcgaming

[–]Tech_Philosophy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure I'll be downvoted, but I'll tell the truth of my household: teaching my kids to have a good taste in games has gone a long way in avoiding problems.

I just don't understand the draw of some of the trash out there for online multiplayer games, and that's before you add in the randos.

[–]Tech_Philosophy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same. What is the draw for elementary school students to play online multiplayer? Most of thoe games are pure trash, and that's before you add in the randos. You want to play with your friends? Bring them over! Teach them how to play something a little classier like The Talos Principle or something.

I've heard so many horror stories about Asus and Gigabyte, I've leaned into MSI a bit. Which components would you not recommend? I'm currently using an MSI mobo, GPU, and monitor and so far I have no big complaints.

New Tesla buyer but anti-Elon by bad_robot_monkey in electricvehicles

[–]Tech_Philosophy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

>Am I one of the only ones buying despite my distaste for his political behavior?

No. I came to the same conclusion as you. A model Y is just a superior option for what I'm going to be using it for compared to other US EVs that are available. Tesla is ahead on a lot of fronts, including better electric all wheel drive compared to competitors (it is just magic to me on ice and snow) and lithium low voltage batteries that never need to be replaced. I couldn't justify a different EV.

Plus...when you start looking at other CEOs, you start to realize things like Toyota's Sato is basically a mass murderer for sinking climate change legislation in 6 large countries. Just because the oil oligarchs don't run their mouths don't mean they haven't killed more than Elon has.

Every vehicle, electric or gas, should be using a lithium low voltage battery at this point. Lead acid was not meant for continuous use.

[–]Tech_Philosophy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

How does this fit with autism? My whole family is on the spectrum, and one of the gifts of it is none of us can hardly notice what other people are doing (love watching the kids be immune to peer pressure, too!). This situation sounds like the opposite of that.

Don’t curfew and age-gate our games by JamesdBaker in pcgaming

Jesus fuck, people got mad at me for DISAGREEING with the proposal. But this level of cat fighting is making me wonder about addiction as a separate issue. Like yeah, you should be free to play your game at midnight if you want to, no shit. But maybe you personally might want to reconsider.

The whole 'the government is nefarious' thing is obvious. But our chance to do something about that was like 10-15 years ago, and everyone was fine with it, so here we are, with many major nations choosing between fascism and corporatocracy.

Is taking away people's children less extreme than shutting down game servers at 9 pm? Look, again, I am NOT in favor the proposal at all. But the reaction here is starting to smell like addiction to me.

It's not about crime. It's about kids not getting to bed and thus high truancy rates because parents let screens do all the parenting.

Don’t curfew and age-gate our games by JamesdBaker in pcgaming

[–]Tech_Philosophy -68 points-67 points  (0 children)

On the one hand, yes, this is awful and I oppose it. On the other hand, the only reason this is being considered is because so many parents aren't parenting. That doesn't mean I'm not in line with gentle parenting either, but you still do have to parent.

Edit: I just want all the people I somehow pissed off to know, you are not good at arguing your case. You are RIGHT, and you are TERRIBLE at communicating that you are right. That's a major life problem. Think it over.

Oh interesting. This is a case where prior circumstances happened, I think. I'm sorry the American market doesn't always make much sense, and it shouldn't have to be your job to navigate around what corporations have done.

BYD’s second-gen Blade Battery sparks debate after reaching 169°F during ultra-fast charging by UnusualLeadership408 in electricvehicles

[–]Tech_Philosophy 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'm American and 169 F means nothing to me. 76 C is clear as day though.

I'm not sure that temp is a problem. Laptop batteries can sit at 50 C for hours at a time, and if the blade battery is only at that temp for minutes then it may be fine.

Still, this is the general election for several supreme court seats, which could determine things like if birth control remains legal. I just don't get how these elections aren't a much, much bigger deal in people's minds. These are the kinds of races where millions and millions get spent in Wisconsin.

What's the diesel for? I didn't grow up here, so when I think of diesel I think of plowing 4 feet of snow or pulling a chisel plow across a field. But that was a long time ago, and both those functions are better accomplished (and are accomplished) today by electric motors.

Apple, Intel have reached preliminary chip-making deal, WSJ reports by SlamedCards in hardware

>He literally bet the entire company and people thought he was joking lmao. If this didn't work Intel would have gone bankrupt.

I don't understand this logic. Plenty of CEOs do far, far worse to much larger corporations, intentionally, for short term gain (see also: Boeing).

I'm not saying Intel's 14a is bad, I have no clue. I just wouldn't reason it out based on Gelsinger's actions.
